If Trevor was Alucard's offspring originally, then wouldn't he have lived significantly longer than a normal human. This is assuming that since Alucard was the offspring of Dracula and a human, he inherited Vampiric traits, so too should Trevor inherit some trace of them. (aside from superhuman strength)

The Japanese storyline leaves no room for Sonia and Alucard to develop a relationship. The night that they meet is the night that Sonia sets off on her quest. That little detail (as well as Sonia being the daughter of aristocrats and living in a mansion) was left out of the NA instruction manual.

Unless Alucard did Sonia against a tree in the woods or something, there's no way that he's Trevor's father.

Honestly, I don't think the original intent by the developers was for the child to be Trevor, because I don't think the intent was for it to be in the same continuity as CV3 in the first place. There's this bit from Konami Magazine:

http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Konami_Magazine?file=Konamimagazinevolume03-page071.jpg
http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Konami_Magazine?file=Konamimagazinevolume04-page075.jpg

"Legends is 1450. Vol3's timeline is made for SOTN, Unrelated to Legends. "

Legends always felt more like it was overwriting CV3 instead of being a prequel to it. The statement from that magazine appears to support that.

What I think happend is that Legends was created as a orignal, stand alone story, existing in a seperate continuity from other games in the series. For whatever reason, it gets added to the timeline IGA created for SotN. Cue the theories the baby from the ending is Trevor, etc. Nobody corrects the mistake until four years later when IGA retcons it again.

Why couldn't they have done it outside? Aristocrats aside I'm sure this would have been commonplace :)

I see what you're saying though, interesting choice of ending, one still has to wonder whether it's Alucard's kid (Trevor or not)

Thanks for a conclusion to that mystery/debate.

I don't think so.
Akumajo Dracula Dark Night Prelude story translation by Solar Boy

*A
Transylvania in the Middle Ages…
One man obtained the powers of the Devil, to change this world into one of darkness, and to gain eternal life…
Not long ago, that man, who became the Demon King, used his supernatural powers and loyal followers of evil called forth from the Otherworld to spread darkness and despair across all of Europe.
…Count Dracula. The people feared the name of the Demon King, yet they could do nothing but voice their worries of a Dark Age the likes of which have never been seen.

*B
Meanwhile, a young girl with mysterious powers was born to an aristocratic family in the countryside. Surprisingly, the girl had special powers that the townspeople couldn’t understand, that they called supernatural. The girl was raised by her grandfather, who was the first to notice her strange powers, telling her, “You must not use your powers only to help yourself…” One night, when she was seventeen years old, while searching for her departed father, she met a mysterious young man named Alucard, and the wheels of fate slowly began to turn… NOTES: There is a mistranslation. It is Alucard that looks for father. Not Sonia

*C
However, without warning, tragedy suddenly struck. Her mansion was attacked by Count Dracula’s monstrous underlings, and upon returning to the town at the foot of the mountains, she only found her grandfather, breathing weakly. “Now is the time to make use of your powers…”  Repeating her grandfather’s last words in her heart, the young girl took up his whip and turned towards the Demon Castle.

*D
The young girl’s name is Sonia. She is the forerunner, who leaves behind to this world the name of the Belmont clan of vampire hunters.

The passage of time from *B to *C is uncertain. It might be several weeks, and might several months.

Sonia meets Alucard one night while he's searching for his father (I can totally imagine Sonia saying "Uh, yeah, he's in that big scary castle in the distance"). Then her mansion is suddenly attacked (while she's away). Then she returns home and finds her grandfather (barely clinging to life) in the aftermath of the attack. I think this is all meant to occur in a very short amount of time. If not, why would Dracula wait so long between his son meeting with this possible champion and sending his goons after her?

Also, it's mentioned Sonia meets Alucard at night. Why be that specific if it doesn't tie directly into the game (which occurs at night)?

Oh, that's been at Mr. P's site for quite a while. I think he hosts translations of the Japanese storylines from pretty much every CV game manual.

These texts are divided into four stages. The text does not describe the time course from B to C. It is written to B in this way. "the wheels of fate slowly began to turn…" Fate is moving slowly. It can be assumed that some periods are between B and C.

@Tuxedo Mark Maybe "One night" is more eerie and fits the atmosphere better than "one day" in an era where the manual prologue was responsible for a significant part of the storytelling and/or setting.

Having said that, the wheels of date beginning to slowly turn could really mean anything. 24 hours or 24 days, whatevs.
