So, besides enjoying the Castlevania universe I am also a huge fan of the Metal Gear franchise (Yes I said "Metal Gear", not MGS!) I originally grew up playing the old NES ports (MG and the bastard child everyone wants to forget: Snake's Revenge!) I remember growing up, that I actually enjoyed these titles and used to go to school, talking about these games. People around me were just like "What's Metal Gear?", so at the time I had felt like I was one of the only few people who knew about the series (until the birth of the internet mind you.) Then '98 came and the release of Metal Gear Solid came out and the game itself just exploded in popularity. I remember reading teaser articles or seeing teaser pictures of the game's promotion and I actually thought and wondered "What would Metal Gear be like in 3D?", well I sat down and played it, loved the crap out of it, but keep in mind I am not a 'fanboy'. I don't go around saying how Kojima is God. But mind you, I am a fan of his work. Snatcher, Policenaughts, Metal Gear, hell I loved the crap out of Zone of the Enders series (All three games and the anime series/prologue movie)

Now to people who know me (not many in these forums do; I am refering to real life friends/online friends that I commonly  game out with) that for years, ever since the release of MGS2 and before they told the origin story of Big Boss through MGS3, that I always wanted to experience a very important entry into the series and that is the Outer Heaven uprising. I talked about this quite abit and TPP looks like its finally happening. The story I've been waiting for!

Now, I've been doing a lot of research into this entry of the series and I like the fact that its taking a (sandbox?) open world approach. And since I am interested in games that actually allow me to think and make use of strategy/tactics with the powers of stealth, I am rather going to enjoy this tittle very much so. I did play Ground Zeroes, which that game serves as more as a teaser to what is yet to come, but I actually enjoyed playing this prologue (teaser/demo...whatever you wanna call it) and have been using the game itself to get used to the new stealth dynamics, combat system and CQC abilities. But, I do feel bad for most people when the game was released due to its price tag. I actually waited to play it when the game was like $20.00 so I didn't get it on release (which means I won't get any special bonuses when TPP is released, and thats okay.)

So I am curious, what are ya'lls thoughts on it? Is there anyone else out there who has been waiting for the "Outer Heaven Uprising" story to be told? What do you all think of the new mechanics in this new installment? :)

(MG and the bastard child everyone wants to forget: Snake's Revenge!)

Snake's Revenge is far from the bastard child everyone thinks it is. Kojima himself actually liked the game and many of its implementations are found in later MGS games. The real Bastard child is the NES port of Metal Gear. It's sub-par when it comes down to its mechanics, especially when compared to its MSX counterpart which had better programming. That and you never fought a Metal Gear. Instead you were pitted up against a super computer. That's not Metal Gear which is where the game get's its name. In Snake's Revenge you do go up against a Metal Gear, and you also destroy/sink a battleship carrying dozens of Metal Gear TX-55 mechs into the sea. Snake's Revenge was a much better experience then its NES predecessor. I've completed the game several times and it's fairly 'solid', lol.

The ending of Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker actually has Big Boss establish Outer Haven. But in the intro of Phantom Pain Outer Haven is destroyed in a surprise attack. We'll just have to wait and see what Phantom Pain is all about. It'll no-doubt re-establish Outer Haven as we know it from the original Metal Gear and I'm waiting for that one  :)

I agree with X. Snake's Revenge was a pretty decent game. It was fun.

I still have to play my download of Ground Zeroes, but I'm kind of excited for Phantom Pain. The first teaser was excellent.

I have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with the series now, lol. I think Kojima needlessly complicates a lot of things, and gets more overindulgent with each subsequent release, but I always have to find out what happens next.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

I'm a big fan of MG, but not any good at them (much like my predicament with fighting games)... But! MGSV is my most anticipated game of the year, probably most in a few years.
I liked MGS4 and PW, but feel they don't quite meet the standard set by MGS1, 2, and 3... That being said, MGSV looks like Kojima's gotten his creative spark back tenfold; gameplay , music, story, graphics... Everything is shaping up to be the best in the series. I can't express how painful the September 1st wait is on me.

Yeah X, I see what you're saying. I guess I got that wrong. :) I did play the MSX incarnations via emulation, then later on PS3.  Also, I don't think it was the 'actual' Outer Heaven that is started yet in his speech. But in PW though, that is more of him speaking his ideal/philosophy about Outer Heaven. It isn't established yet. From at least what I gather. Could be wrong though :)

The ideology of Outer Haven was established at the end of Peacewalker during Big Boss' speech. But the physical Outer Haven facility we know from the MSX Metal Gear game has yet to be. I'm hoping to see that at the end of Phantom Pain. Especially when you consider that this title could be Kojima's last entry for the series.

Imagine what it would’ve been like if Kojima was in whatever mega-gritty ultra-bleak mindset he’s using for MSG5 back when he wrote MGS4.

Imagine what would have happened to Sunny.
