The New Year starts off with a bang - the latest EGM announced officially the existence of a Castlevania for the Nintendo DS. And it turns out to be a direct sequel to Aria of Sorrow. For a game that's not coming out until the Fall, they look pretty far into development.

Thanks to Tobias Lind for the scans, Garnet Zero for the comparison pics (the new game shots are on the right) and EGM for the article.

Minor update, thanks to one Jason Brown: The Faces of Death section is now much more complete, as well as descriptions for the Lament of Innocence Weaponry.

Other than that, little has been happening on the Castlevania front. Ben Isaac has released his Castlevania: Prelude to War movie, which is well worth checking (write-up forthcoming.) Akumajou Dracula has been released for the Famicom Mini GBA series in Japan and will be released here (along with Metroid for some cryptic reason, even though it's included FOR FREE with Metroid: Zero Mission), and Konami has announced they are making a Castlevania DS. Other than that, the only real thing left to add are various MP3s. I recommend checking out VGMix for catching up on some good stuff.

Other than that, don't expect many updates until the next Castlevania game comes out. I've been spending the past six months working on Hardcore Gaming 101, which includes full blown articles on Parodius, Twinbee, Ys, Prince of Persia, Darius, Final Fight and lots of other classic games. Also, check for a small resurrection to the Contra HQ, as Neo Contra is due at the end of the month. And also check out Armchaire Empire, as it's a good indepedent gaming site that I write for.

Having just moved into a new apartment, I'm still without Internet, though a minor update is planned. If you've checked out the most recent EGM, there's a mention of a fanmade Castlevania movie, subtitled "Prelude to War." The two minute trailer is posted at http://www.benisaac.com and it's well worth checking out. The full movie should be out in DVD in July.

And again, remember to check out Hardcore Gaming 101!

Well, four months seems to be about the length it takes for people to start threatening me to update the site, so here we go. A few bits have been added to the Weirdness section, mostly about Dream Mix TV: World Fighters and a Konami arcade game called Battle Tryst. Also, check out check out this site, the home page of Gregory Orduyan, who worked on Castlevania Resurrection before it was canned. Includes tons of artwork too.

Also, several new Fan MP3s:

By Geoffrey Gunn:

Prayer of Mercy
Crucifix of Fate
Dance in the Lab (Anti-Soul Mysteries Lab)
Poisoned Insanity (Poison Mind)

By Zero Slug FM:

Psycho Warrior
Ripe Seeds
Tower of the Dolls
Walking on the Edge
Praying Hands

By Dark Angel 33:

Revenge

On a finale note, the Castlevania Dungeon will be going on hiatus for quite awhile. Why, you ask? Well, the obvious bit is that there's not a whole lot left to report on Castlevania on the moment. There's still some holes here and there, but they're nothing major. Secondly, the Dungeon is undergoing a redesign, which takes a long time, given the size of this site. And finally, I've spent the past few months working on an entirely new video game related site. It's still under construction (and not officially open), but check out Hardcore Gaming 101 for looks at some of the video game series that define our culture.

Finally, all of the characters have pictures and information, as well as added enemy myths. Also added a scan of Dengeki PS2 Cover, also without text. Various other link fixes abound as well.

Finally, minor updates have been made to the Storyline section, mostly updates to accomodate Lament of Innocence. There's also a spoiler-filled version up now, if you want the games explainted in depth. More of that will come whenever I feel like editing the Lament character artwork.

11/17
Still more Lament of Innocence stuff, including addition to the Dracula Forms and Faces of Death pages, as well as pictures of the orb attacks, although captions have yet to be written. Magazine scans of the Nintendo Power Belmont's Revenge and Legends articles have been added, thanks to Ed Oscuro and Dark Angel. There are lots of random art images added to many, many of the pages (too many to list), but the biggest addition is to the Castlevania Resurrection page, as several video clips (including the intro) and bits of art have been added, thanks to Mike Boyajian and Ricardo Fuentes. The video page has been updated with these and a few more random movies, mostly glitch videos I found on a Japanese webpage, some Konami news clip videos and the Lament of Innocence TV commercial in Windows Media, courtesy of Gametrailers.com. Finally, a new fan MP3: Requiem of the Gods - Angelic Mix by Christopher Romero.

11/10
Lament of Innocence coverage continues, including level descriptions, some additional weirdness, the intro and pics of Joachim's ending. Also added some of the new bosses, although that's not quite done. Finally, several new Fan MP3s, including:

Bloody Tears By Quasar
Dracula's Castle By Christopher Romero
Bloody Tears By Motel Mix
Simon's Theme By Toshiyuki Ohta
Medley By Toshiyuki Ohta
Castlevania 2 - Bloody Bossanova By the NESkimos
Castlevania IV - Drawbridge Simon Theme By the NESkimos
Castlevania - Vampire Killer By the NESkimos

Also, apparently years ago, Gamefan released a few videos of the actual intro to Castlevania Resurrection. Unfortunately, with the site gone, they appear to be lost. If anyone has these videos, please let me know. Thanks!

10/30
Some of the coverage for Lament of Innocence is up, including a review, information about the additional modes and some of the secret items. Also, the rest of the Lament of Innocence soundtrack has been recorded by Elbryan, so check that out too. And finally, Psycho Mantis' infamous sound byte from Metal Gear Solid, thanks to Jedi Master Cain.

10/24
Well, Lament of Innocence is out - unfortunately, the 15 hour work days I've had to slog through recently have means I haven't gotten to play more than an hour of it. Initial opinion? The combat is fun, but the level design is dull and repetetive. Check back for a full review in the next week or so, although the Lament of Innocence page has been updated with new artwork of all of the characters, including Joachim and the Succubus.

10/17
The demo of Lament of Innocence is out, so check out the initial impressions and screenshots. Also, the Lament of Innocence music sampler CD MP3s have been fixed, thanks to Elbryan. Some Electronics Boutiques are apparently giving out CDs - I've been promised one, although I have a funny feeling they won't be following through.

10/11
EB Games has added that people who preorder will get the Lament of Innocence sampler CD, most likely the same one featured in the last update. However, when asked at their stores, they were not aware of the offer, so perhaps it is excluse to online orders. In any case, the game is currently due out Wednesday, October 22nd, so be ready. And in also excellent news, the Winter 2003 PS2 Jampack is due out on Wednesday the 15th, and it mentions a "Castlevana: Lament of Innocence" feature. Whether this is a video or a playable demo is unknown, but given that last week's Dengeki PS2 (a Japanese magazine) had a playable, it's quite possible. Megaman fans take note that Megaman X7 and Megaman Zero 2 come out that day as well.

And in order to give this update something other than a news blurb, awesome Japanese Castlevania fan Hatakeyama has graciously translated the liner notes for the Circle of the Moon/Concerto of the Midnight Sun soundtrack. On that note, I'm looking for someone fluent in Japanese who can translate the notes from Akumajou Dracula Best 1 and 2, Castlevania Chronicles, Symphony of the Night and Castlevania 64 - high quality scans can be provided. If you'd be willing to do this, please let me know.

3/5
Okay, here's the letdown - the Dungeon will be seeing a massive overhaul sometime in the future, so I don't want to make changes in the page that could result in lost updates. However, I have plenty of contributed stuff that I'll probably lose otherwise, so I figured I'd toss them up here you everyone to enjoy.

Additionally, the folks at the forum were digging through the Symphony of the Night sound files and uncovered some unused music files, posted below. Only two of them (the bells and the librarian) appear to be used. They'll sound weird coming out of a regular sound card, but the actual sound samples are posted below, if anyone can put the two together and make them sound like they should.
