Akmodan II
|
Mummies have always made an appearance in the Castlevania series, and this one
is no different. Guarding Olrox's old room in the Inverted Castle, Akmodan II
will emerge from his tomb. He can extend his bandages to choke his attackers,
as well as spread poisonous gas (air tends to become poisonous when
circulation is nonexistent for long amount of time...this is especially the
case with Egyptian pyramids which have gone for centuries without any fresh
air). Akmodan II is also present on the Clock Tower of Castlevania IV

Beezelbub
|
The name Beezelbub today is commonly associated with the Prince of Demons (the
devil). However, its original meaning was "Lord of Flies". Beezelbub was a
god of the nation of Canaan in the Old Testament of the Bible. In the game,
Beezelbub is a GIGANTIC rotting corpse that inhabits the Necromancy Laboratory
in the Inverted Castle. Although it cannot attack directly, it can send hoards
of HUGE flies around to kill anyone (while also dropping maggots, which you
can use the Soul Steal spell on to gain some life.) The only way to kill him,
really, is to dismember him piece by piece.

Castlevania 3 Zombie Trio
|

Dracula didn't forget about Alucard's companions way back when, so these
zombie impersonators were created to haunt him. Trevor mainly attacks with his
whip, bone boomerang and holy water, while Grant will just climb on the
ceiling and throw daggers. Sypha hovers in the air (which she never had the
power to do in Castlevania 3) and shoot fire, ice, and even lightning when
she's damaged enough. Even though all three zombies attack at the same time,
they generally aren't too powerful compared to the rest of the Inverted Castle
(they are found in the Reverce Coliseum.)
|
Cerberos
|
Cerberos is the three-headed guardian god of Hell. When encountered in
Symphony of the Night, the background suitably flames up to simulate the
actual experience of being in the Underworld. Each of the three heads will
shoot out differently colored fireballs, both straight forward and at an
upward angle in case you try to attack from above. Your best defense is your
Holy Water.
|
The Creature
|
The Creature is actually a modified version of Frankenstein's monster, and is
found in the Inverted Outer Wall. His main weapon is his humoungous mallet,
which he will slam over the head of Alucard or Richter. His only other attack
is to roll in a ball and travel from one of the screen to the other. Once you
get the Creature's pattern down, he's rather easy to defeat.
|
Darkwing Bat
|
Perhaps one of the most sickeningly simple bosses in the entire game. Found in
the Inverted Clock Tower, the Darkwing Bat has wings many times the size of
its actual body. It will flap its wings to create a gust of wind, sending you
flying against the back wall. Other than simply flying around, this Bat has no
other attacks, and can be killed without much effort.
|
Death
|
Death has appeared is almost every Castlevania game, so why not this one? When
encountered in the Cave in the Inverted Castle, he will simply fly back and
forth, commanding sickles to attack. Once this form is dead, he will transform
into a nasty hovering skeletal creature with very large sickle shaped blades
on each hand.
|
The Doppelganger
|
Two Doppelgangers of Alucard will be fought...one in the Outer Wall, the other
in the Underground Caverns in the Inverted Castle. Both mimic the attacks and
weapons of Alucard (like throwing daggers, swinging sword, using mist to
teleport), although the latter one (Doppelganger40) is a bit more advanced, as
it can charge the screen in a bat/wolf combo.
|
Galamoth
|
Galamoth is actually the boss of Kid Dracula for the Famicom and the Game Boy,
although he appears in Symphony of the Night without the cutesy demeanor. It
bears a slight resemblance to the dinosaur Styracosaurus, a horned dinosaur
with a neck frill adorned with horns pointing backwards. Galamoth is one of
the nastiest bosses in the game, found in the Floating Catacombs.
In addition
to dodging his humoungous legs, he zaps lightning out of his magic rod, surely
obliterating you unless you've got some sort of Lightning protection. He also
shoots out dark magical spheres that have a limited range, so they can be
dodged if you stay at the extremes of the screen. It may be me, but
Galamoth's garb looks Egyptian, and it looks like he got that skirt of Mum-Ra
from Thundercats!

Granfalloon (see Legion)
|
Originally called Legion in the Japanese version, it was renamed the
Granfalloon. This seems to be taken from something in Kurt Vonnegut novels.
Vonnegut himself defines Granfalloon as "a proud and meaningless association
of human beings." Who the hell knows what that has to do with a ball of naked
bodies surrounding a monstrous nucleus with tentacles. Found in the
Catacombs, the aforementioned bodies of the damned will fall off the
Granfalloon and walk on the ground. However, your main goal is to start
destroying the shield of bodies on the ball. Once you clear enough away, a
nasty looking monster will emerge, who will shoot lightning out of its
tendrils when it gets the chance. Once this creature inside is killed, then
you will be allowed to proceed.
|
Hippogryph
|
This Hippogryph is a combination of a horse, a lion, and a bird. In addition
to charging around the area (either by running or flying) the Hippogyrph can
breath fire from its mouth when it has landed. It will also periodically lay
little eggs that will create small creatures to hinder your fighting, if not
destroyed.
|
Karamusan
|
Karasuman is the raven man, King of Ravens, as his winged appearance would
suggest. Not too hard of a boss to defeat, he will send a flock of the birds
to attack you from his wings. He can also send out electrically charged
feathers in many directions.
