Symphony of the Night Bosses: L - Z
|
Lesser Demon
|
The first time you encounter a Lesser Demon will be in the Long Library. Not
too fast of a flyer, it will move back and forth across the area. When on the
ground, it can throw lasers from its wings. The worst attack method, by far,
is when it hovers in the air and makes a clone of itself. Did I mention that
the second third, fourth, and fifth times you encounter the Lesser Demon, he
will be an ENEMY!?
|
Medusa
|
Again making an encore appearance, Medusa will show up the halls of the Anti-
Chapel. Her main weapon is a sword and her stone-inducing glare, and she
guards against high attacks with a shield. However, if you duck and get close,
you can attack under her shield and still be away from the stone beam. When
Medusa dies, she cries out "I'm petrified!" in possibly the worst pun in
Castlevania history (not that Paula Abghoul and Fred Askare from Super
Castlevania 4 were any better).

Olrox
|
Olrox must be a close friend of Dracula if he was given his own section of the
castle to inhabit and govern. According to an anonymous Castlevania fan, he is
most probably based of the character that Max Schrecks played in the movies,
named Count Orlock. Among his magical skills include hovering, teleportation,
summoning tormented souls from the ground, creating a portal to the land of
the undead to summon ghost skulls, and lightning beams. When enough damage has
been inflicted, Olrox will shift forms into a huge green lizard monster that
can spout fire and use its extremely large limbs to punch. Olrox can also
focus an energy beam on the ground that will cause fire to rise up. It may
just be me, but Olrox's second form reminds me of the final form of Mother
Brain in Super Metroid. When you destroy him, you may remember the Crocomire,
also from Super Metroid.

Scylla
|
The Scylla is yet another mythological beast. You will first encounter one of
its wyrms as it attacks from the ceiling. The actual beast consists of a
beautiful lady with wolf heads and several tentacles below it. She can command
the water underneath her to attack Alucard, as well as sending the Scylla
wyrms to bite. However, each of the wyrms can be destroyed individually,
allowing you to actually get to the head of the creature. According to Greek
Mythology, Scylla and the one named Charybdis lived on either side of the
Strait of Messina. Scylla seized sailors and devoured them, and Charybdis,
the whirlpool, created shipwrecks. Odysseus passed safely between them, as did
Jason and the Argonauts.

Shaft
|
Shaft is the dark priest behind another evil resurrection of Count Dracula,
and the possession of Richter Belmont. He sits inside of a bubble that will
levitate around the screen, and commands six orbs. These orbs will produce
lightning, fire, or they will simply bounce around the screen. Shaft is
surprisingly easy in this adventure, after putting up such an enormous fight
in Dracula X Duo.
|
Succubus
|
The Succubus is a mystical demon that descends upon and has sexual intercourse
with a man in his dream state. During this, the Succubus would steal his soul.
In Symphony, the Succubus tries to impersonate Alucard's mother, Lisa, in
order for him to do his father's bidding. When her true form is revealed, she
can extend the wing fingers to poke Alucard and create many false duplicates
of herself in the sky. The one which doesn't shoot orbs would be the real
Succubus.
