An idea for improving the Metroidvania games further

I've been playing a lot of the GBA LOTR: Return of The King lately, and that got me thinking, how cool would SotN and the other similar Castlevania games be if they incorporated the item/weapon system of games like Diablo?

If you're not familiar, it works like this:   The enemies in such games are always dropping random weapons/armor when killed (rather than specific ones like in Castlevania), but the kicker is that the attibutes are random.  Let's, say, using Castlevania as an example, you killed a skeleton and it dropped a leather whip item.  The whip has the attributes 3 damage, + 1 to agility.  Now, say, you kill another skeleton, and it drops the same whip, but, lo, the attributes are different, this one does 2 damage, but does +4 damage to zombies.  Basically, it would add a whole new level to the games, without altering the core gameplay mechanics much.  And, it would give you all new incentive to beat on monsters, beyond the experience points.

An interesting thought i'll say and i like it, but there something more from  this one that's needed for the metroidvanias to get improved and i would like to see them having random bosses or high level enemies appearing at random rooms if certain conditions on the game are met, having catch you off guard!!!!

Random loot can improve pretty much any game that uses an inventory system. CV is no exception. Its FAR easier to create a base set of weapons/gear and a set of prefixes/subfixes that add certain stats and then combine em randomly when their created than it is to try to make half that many hand made items. Of course you still need those unique handmade weapons/gear too as special exceptions

I think many of use are starting to feel burned out with the current Metroidvania standard so here's my suggestions.

First lose the RPG system for now just to get people less bored of it and instead, have it like Metroid or legend of Zelda i.e. collecting items that will make you grow stronger rather then fussing about with the level-up gimmic.

And second have the game go back to it's roots to give the player more of a fear-filled trip throughout the game like what super Metroid did for us. There was nobody else except for you and your enemies and you never knew what was coming around then next bend or corridor. I think it would make for a more spooky experience.

I agree with the first point, which is what they did in LoI and did it well.  However, I don't like the second point.  I think that meeting other characters and possibly saving them adds to the plot.  Simply going through the castle defeating enemies until you kill Dracula (or whoever the final boss is) is boring.  There's no depth in the plot.  It's just good versus evil.

In some cases that's usually how it is. I do know that Castlevania is one of those games that is heavily dependent on story but it can still get by with a story intro and a story at the end like with some of the past titles of Castlevania.
