So I guess it can get laid in more than a few countries and states now.

In my opinion, this is one of the best games in the series, even if a couple of the bosses made me want to lodge a GBA in the wall. I still play my copy periodically, but sadly, you're only a playthrough virgin once. ;_____;

What are some of your thoughts on this entry?
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

It was pretty neat. I wonder why Konami stopped making portable Symphony of the Nights.

Or good games in general.

Or games in general.

I first played this on the GBA Player on my Gamecube shortly after that came out.  I really enjoy COTM and think it's one of the finer entries into the series.  It's a great stand-alone and had really neat combat mechanics.  I just wish some of the level design and color palette choices were a little different.  Sometimes the foreground and background blended together too much for my taste.

We should all feel old, comrade. I mean, I came into the fandom in about 2005, and I feel veritably ancient. Can't even imagine what it's like for those of us who have been around since the N64 games, or just imagine, the very beginning.

For me COTM was a solid synthesis between oldschool Castlevania (challenge-wise) and SOTN, which was the only Metroidvania at the time. In a similar way that OOE feels like a mediation between Simon's Quest and "Metroidvania" with the more oldschool challenge level(s).

I remember renting Super Castlevania IV when it first came out.  You are but sweet babes.

Dracula was not always a monster. He was once a man named Mathias Cronqvist. A flawed, conflicted, genius of a man. How did the educated, aristocratic, crusader who piously served the church become a vampire, and eventually the Dark Lord himself, the opposing force to God? From a very young age terrors and tragedy shaped the man into the king of all evil. This is his story.

I started playing Castlevania when I was 4.. I remember begging my mom to rent it. Finally got CV1 for my 5th birthday. Got 2 shortly after.

I still remember when Dracula's Curse came out. I remember my dad taking me to the store to get it.

Got SCV4 the day it came out.

Changed my life!

I didn't feel old until I had to get an X-ray the other week after I played football with some teenagers.

The worst monsters are human.

Proof of Blood remains the single most cinematic sounding final boss theme the series has had, imo. Circle's original tunes pretty much knocked it out of the park completely, and most of its arrangements weren't exactly slouches themselves. Its take on Vampire Killer was pretty limp though.

I'd say CotM's take on Vampire Killer would've been decent as a home base theme of sorts.
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.
^^
You are now reading this in Robert Belgrade's voice.

Then Lords of Shadow 2 just takes a big, semi-solid, smelly, pea-green dump all over everything.

Its square samples were fantastic for Clockwork, though. Their punchiness worked nicely for VK, though that's the only real merit the arrangement has.

Alas, COTM still couldn't make Shudder any less of a boring fucking song.
