You guys are way over thinking this thing. This isnt a new retro console from Nintendo thats gonna see support like a normal generation console. This a legal emulator on a chip of classic NES games. Its no different than the sega one or the atari one or any of the other "plug into a tv and play builtin games" systems. Only this is official instead of floating around in that space between illegal and no one really cares anymore It could be a test for a future virtual console only mini console from nintendo... but I doubt it. Most likely this is just a neat cash in for the holiday season. If it does well we may see more versions in the future but dont over think it here Yeah, this is really more just the kind of thing you buy your nieces or nephews for Christmas so they can "experience how games were in the old days". Or for an impulse buy for that non-gamer dad or mom in their 30s who see it in the store and say "oh man I used to love the Nintendo as a kid I gotta get this". I'm sure people will take the thing apart and figure out how to add more games to it, just like people figured out how to take apart the Atari Flashback 2 and add a cartridge slot. But that's kind of beside the point of the device.
If this one sells well enough, we'll probably get another one in a year or two, with many of the same games but maybe 10 or 15 different ones. It might be shaped like a toploader and come with dog-bone controllers, it might even have a cartridge slot. If there are noticeable emulation errors from this first one, it'll correct those, but it probably will still be just a tiny emulator in a box rather than a more expensive re-creation of the original hardware.
PS- Since I've mentioned the Flashback a lot here's a look at it to give you more of an idea of what this Nintendo will probably be like. Btw it's definitely a conscious decision to limit the games to release more iterations. You can fit every NES game on a single small USB flashdrive and you can fit every Atari 2600 game onto a single
floppy disk but they still limited it to 40.
