Well decided to edit my main post since this is now a release topic for my Hugh Baldwin Hack, I've now finished up the hack and now its on to the release!
This hack only works with the Castlevania Circle of the moon US version of the game.

So without further delay here is the hack, enjoy!

I used to want this soooo much.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Granted the extra modes were pretty cool, but they basically just boiled down to some preset limiters and buffs -- stuff a dedicated gamer could have done on their own.

I wonder if the lack of Hugh mode played a part in Iga adding a Maxim mode to HoD.

CoTM was one of my very first video games. It was when I played the same games over and over, waiting for the next holiday or birthday to ask my parents for something new.

I beat CoTM so many times, I definitely tried to add in my own "modes" as well. I played it enough times to use up all the save files, and even had to delete some to make room. I remember that game having a ridiculous number of save slots.

It's been so long, more than a decade, maybe fifteen years, since I've last played it, I wonder if I would still be able to muscle memory the game in a Hugh mode.

I know I definitely loved Maxim mode, the rolling around on the ground was hilarious and so incredibly broken.

Well major update guys, after talking it over with Pemburu Vampir (the creator of this hack) I found out that he had kinda lost interest in this hack which kinda put a black cloud over its head, he did not say that he would NOT release it but that he has been having trouble mustering up the motivation to continue on, I actually decided to have him pass on his hacking knowledge to me since I wanted to make 100% sure this hack sees the light of day, as someone who has always wanted Hugh Baldwin playable I simply had to learn to do it myself and luckily he taught me exactly how and now I present to you my work!

Now be aware it is still in the beta stages, so far I have only replaced all his core sprites such as his movements, jumping, and sub weapons attacks as well as replaced his non powerup whip sprites with new ones featuring Hugh using his sword in a thrusting motion, the hack over all works the best however when using the card combinations to give you either the flame sword, the flower sword, holy sword, or the ice sword, since all of those (minus the holy sword) have animations that align with Hugh's sword animations pretty nicely it pretty much comes out not looking half bad, all that being said once again let me make it clear this is the BETA stages and work still needs to be done such as other whip related sprites need to be replaced (something I'm currently debating on whether I should do or not) and some sprites need to be realigned since for instance his jumping attack with his basic non powerup sword/whip causes part of the sprite to disappear so there is still work to be done, but rest assured I will definitely be releasing this in the not so distant future. ;D

Thanks, I'm currently touching up and realigning some sprites to give them a better look, I also replaced Nathan's pause picture with one of Hugh, I'll be posting another video sometime today or tomorrow showcasing the changes. ;D

Ok here is another video showcasing my progress with my hack, I have replaced Nathan's pause screen portrait with one of Hugh (special thanks to fuckyeacastlevania) and also replaced 80 % of nathan's sprites including all of his whip related ones, there will be one more video released before I release this mod sometime late next week, hope you guys enjoy it!

Well so far It will have no effect, I'm currently looking for a way to change that but I don't know how to change dialogue in a game, I don't think its possible really, the best I could possibly do is find a way to change nathan's dialogue picture to Hugh's and thats about it.

- UPDATE -

Pemburu Vampir pointed out a bug where part of the sprite would sink into the floor during Hugh's basic sword thrust attack, so I went back to fix that and also polished some other sprites, please be sure to download the new and better 4.0 version in the updated download link above. ;D
