Not anything against the Japanese but I feel their specialty isn't in live action stuff.
Takashi Miike, Ryuhei Kitamura, Beat Takeshi, and Kiyoshi Kurosawa are some of the best directors in film currently, so I definitely don't agree. There's also all those great samurai and pinky violence flicks from the '70s, and of course the brilliance of Akira Kurosawa.
Kitamura specializes in fancy fight choreography, so I think he'll have the fast-paced action and fights from the anime films down. Whether his particular style is fitting for Lupin, I don't know, but as a movie I think it'll be entertaining.
