Title: Another sorrow game
Post by: darkwzrd4 on July 31, 2008, 05:55:22 PM
Do you think that there will be another "Sorrow" game??  I mean we don't know what happens to Soma after DoS.  Does he ever become the new dark lord?  Does he ever learn to use his powers to the point that he never losses the abilities he absorbs, even when he is out of danger.

I wouldn't mind one with an adult Soma, set in, let's say... 2051?

I think his story's pretty much over, though. They kinda screwed up a potentially awesome sequel storyline wise with DoS. Some things were good, but the bad outweighed them.

Hopefully, only if Alucard is the protagonist and the goal is to kill Soma.

It depends on what the story line is about and who the main character is. I mean, come on. Why was DoS even made? It didn't progress the story....AT ALL.
Title: Re: Another sorrow game
Post by: crisis on August 01, 2008, 12:51:43 AM
Dawn of sorrow was a fun game, but the story was pretty lame and I hate how playing as Julius is lame too.

Julius was awesome in AoS, why the hell did they reduce him to what he is in DoS! pisses me off. 19 year old Julius better be Simon x100.

The ending in AoS where Soma becomes Dracula is the best, and should've been canon. We all agree to this

I think there's still a high chance that another 'Sorrow' game will be made. Both games got relatively high scores and reviews, they are IGA's babies (he gave birth to them, and he loves them)

Hopefully the next potential game will flesh out the story, maybe introduce a new unique possible avatar for Dracula, reveal Alucard's ultimate fate, or Julius or another hero ending the legacy of Demon Castle forever.

Oh yeah, and also:

Julius should've killed Somacula. You don't think so?
Title: Re: Another sorrow game

Nope.

Soma overcoming his destiny as Dracula and remaining himself was sort of the whole point of AoS, imo. But I wouldn't mind a third game with an evil Soma.

The evil Soma ending of DoS should be made canon. Making Soma turn bad at the end of AoS retcons DoS.

So the Sorrow timeline should go like this:

AoS
DoS - Soma mode
DoS - Julius mode
*oS - play as Julius' son (or daughter) or Alucard and defeat Soma

As someone pointed out in another thread, they are running out of timeline for Castlevania (yes, they have 300 years between LoI and CV3, but you can't have Dracula then). Perhaps when Soma becomes the Dark Lord he ushers in a new Dark Age of Vampires, subjugating the human race and setting civilisation and development back 1000 years? This would then effectively give an open-ended mediaeval period for more CV games. (I know it's a bit of a cop-out but it could work...)

It would work only if it had vampires with laser swords and jet packs, Hyper Mecha Death, and the Belmont had a jive-talking mutant side kick.

Or they could just remake CV1 yet again.

If that happened it would for all intensive purposes become like the Vampire Hunter D book series in which the human race has be oppressed by vampires for centuries and now vampire hunters kill vampires to end the oppression.

Well someday we are gonna run outta places to put new games. They'll have to start an alternate reality at some point.

Or should we just keep going into the future until we successfully incorporate Nano Breaker into the mix?

Ooooh... O.K.

Incorporating Legends into that would actually work because then you have the two alternate timelines setup depending on who was the first to defeat Dracula.

I'll admit, unless they tweak her story, I don't want to see Sonia in too much of any CV timeline.  I don't want her being Alucard's baby momma, and I don't want the Belmonts related to Dracula dagnabit!

The continue insistence about how cool he is, his horrible voice at Symphony of the Night, the tons of Alucard-based fanfics i've read, the continuous Alucard fanservice in every castlevania... shall i continue?

Seriously, actually i'm writing a fanfic placed 25 years before Aria of Sorrow, the CastleVania universe is opened and is relatively easy to create a new character and place him/her in that universe but, goddamn, Alucard is ALWAYS there.

Is tiring, and boring

PD: I simply LOVE Simon Belmont, he was the first Video Game character that i've controlled when i was 3 years old

Uh... Have you played the remastered SotN that is unlockable in DXC?  In that version, the script is a little better and the new voice actors fit the characters better than the old ones.

For example, Alucard now sounds like Sasuke from Naruto.  Or at least it sounds like that to me.  Besides, how can you say that Alucard sucks?  He's only been the main character in one Castlevania game.  To be honest, I think that he should the main character in another game.

Honestly Alucard in DXC sounds like they reused Leon's voice actor.

(Crispin Freeman was it?)

I'm not sure if that's the case though.

Actually, I'm not the only one here that prefers the voice work of the original SotN more.

Yeah, the DXC ones are more professional, but they lose their corny, over-dramatic charm.

that just what you think, Alucards voice is bad ass and the remake sucks to me and to many others;D
i really hate that shity voice they replaced the greatest voice in SOTN with a winy little boy voice.
just another reason to wish death to IGA!!
1st was Alucards voice he messed up i let that go but then he did judgment enough said.
1st he messed up his voice then made him look like a cheap rip off of another game and now i truly hate him IGA.
its time to replace him he's truly done, washed up,taped out we need new blood to keep this thing alive imo.lol

DXC is a great game. At least the new voice-actors can act. The old ones were terrible. I'd have to say the old Alucard's voice is more suitable than the new one, but since the way he delivered it sounded..like cardboard (I don't know what cardboard sounds like, but that's the only adjective I could think of), I think the new acting can compensate for the ill-suited voice. Alucard's voice isn't as deep as before, but it is definitely not a "winy little boy voice". :P

Is Judgement too much of a heresy? We'll have to wait and see.  I don't understand what you mean by "cheap rip off of another game". Seriously, IGA may not be the best head for the series anymore, but they should at least keep him there, available for consultation or something, even if they put in some fresh blood to the series.
Title: Re: Another sorrow game

I thought Alucard's old voice fit his facial portrait much better. And with all the voices in that game, the extra reverb fit the rich, ostentatious look of the castle.

SO to me, the voices and the over the top lines just fit the rest of the presentation's package better. Whether the dialogue is more corny or not, I think most can say SotN's lines were much more memorable. SotN's lines were delivered like if in a play. It really set a fantastic theatric tone.

The only voice I really prefer more in DXC over SotN is Maria's, as it's higher-pitched and more youthful sounding. Considering her playful personality in RoB, I think this new voice projects that side of her past better.

I bet you prefer Al's old voice, because you are used to it. I can't imagine, how a voice that deep could suit a guy who looks like that. I think he looks very feminine.

Btw... Do you guys imagine, Alucard purses his lips when speaking, too? Cuz I always do. Especially because I do when I imitate him. "Oiph cum to put an end to thus."

For some reason, the old voice just fits him. @_@ It really might be because we're just used to it, though.. We may never know. The new voices weren't bad. All I wanted was to have an option to switch back to the old voices.. Ah well.. DXC is already a great package. We can't have everything. :P

No it doesn't.  It's essentially the same game except that it has new voice actors, it's easier to keep the starting equipment and there are two extra relics.  The only thing that sucks is that there is no longer a holy sword just lying around.  You now have to get is as a rare drop from a vandal sword.  You can also play as Maria.  However, she has the same moves as RoB.  The only reason to get DXC is to play the two version of RoB.  That's it.

Sweet, thanks for the info on the castlevania novels/magazines.

i would love to see a third sorrow game focus on the defeat of Soma.

i liked Soma's soul system, but we don't really need to have another iteration of it on a 2D platform.  it'd be nice to see it manifest itself on a 3D game though, although that would go against the current plan of making 3D games at the beginning of the series and 2D games at then end of the series.

it's too bad that it's way more cost effective to just hire someone to write a new novel than it is to translate one, so we'll probably never see the Japanese one unless there becomes a huge demand for it.  oh well.  i suppose there is always fan translation.  that's how i read the original Slayers novels years before they were published in the US.

I'm definitely hoping for another Sorrow game. Dawn of Sorrow was terrible story-wise, so I'm hoping for another game to make up for it and finish the series with a great ending. If only the Julius Mode ending where Soma becomes the dark lord and is defeated was the real ending put in the canon, but, for whatever reason, Konami always has a happy ending... :P

I may have said this before, but I would like to see an all out battle between Soma and Alucard at the peak of their abilities, but neither being evil.  And when I say peak of their abilities, in regards to Alucard, I mean how he was in SotN.  As for Soma, I would know because he has different abilities in each game he is in.  I also think that a battle like that should be in 3-D.  I don't know what you all think, but this is simply what I think.

In my ideal DoS sequel, Julius would be killed by Soma in the prologues, thus ending the Belmont Clan for good, and forcing Alucard to team up with Yoko and Hammer's grandson(a DaNasty) and Yoko's Great-Niece(a Belnades) and finally, a Morris, who would be the only remaining person able to wield the whip, with the help of a Lecarde, descended from Loretta and Charlotte.

Dude, they've had their spot in the limelight long enough. I think it was a bit cliche and annoying that the people who kept it running decided to make so only one family with the same hero repeated over and OVER with nothing but a different sprite and name, had to continuously defeat Dracula. I really wish it didn't have to be all about the Belmonts...

I'm tired of the Belmonts hogging the spotlight too.  I really think the series should start to center around either Alucard, Soma, or the Belnades clan.  I think that such a shift could give the series a freshness it hasn't had in years.

What do you people mean you are tired of the Belmonts hogging the spotlight? They've lost the spotlight to characters like Alucard and Soma if anything.

No shit! Since IGA took over there hasnt been but 1 game that starred a Belmont. The rest the Belmonts have become no bigger chars than fuckin Slogra and Gaibon.

Thats why these newer games don't have a Castlevania feel to them.

Indeed, the newer Metroidvanias are very gothy and Castlevanish.

It's just that some people think that Castlevania should only consist of bottomless pits & levels. It's not the 80's anymore.

I for one am fine with Metroidvanias. I'm even okay with Portrait (shock), but I still hold a soft spot for the older games, but I'll take what they produce in any case. If Iga wants to hammer out another Sorrow title and give it stupid animu designs, I'll certainly lament that he can't seem to return to the "roots" of his career, but I'll still be fine with the newer direction of the series and buy the new releases.

two games really. lament and harmony both starred a belmont. but yeah, not enough belmont main heroes in a game series that is defined by them fighting against dracula.

First: Alucard's voice is indeed deep which is why he keeps his testicles in his boot.

Second: Belmonts are boss its just that they ALL have the surname as opposed to the bloodline realistically branching out. Example Leon has a kid that kid has two kids one of those kids has a girl the other has a girl and three boys until eventually everyone around the village and surrounding villages has Belmont blood. Its cool to have a single male heir but there should be no reason that Julius at the age of 50 should have to fight because by his time Belmont should be as common as Smith around Transylvania.

What I would like to see is Alucard revealing his true form and powers to Soma as well as formaly introducing himself as Dracula's son.  I would really like to see Soma's reaction.  I think that Soma would be surprised, angry, and confused.  I think that he would be surprised because I doubt he would be expecting that such an individual exists, He would be angry that it was kept a secret from him, and confused that Julius (a vampire hunter) hasn't tried to kill Dracula's son.

No one complained when the "animu" was used in Rondo. Besides, Ecclesia is anything BUT "animu".

I'd also like to point out that most anime vastly differ in style. Really, what similarities are there between Jotaro Kujo and Son Goku, artistically?

The anime style used if Dawn of Sorrow is very similar if not exactly like the style used in the "Ghost in the Shell" TV series. It's just in the way that Soma was drawn. You look at it and think... Where have I seen that look before? Ah! Major Motoko.

P.S. Even if this game is the last adventure for Soma I doubt it'll be the last CV game to be made. There are still tons of other evil baddies out there besides Dracula that the Belmonts could go up against. Other Vampires, Demons, etc.

Don't forget after Soma eventually dies from old age or something else, his reincarnation may become the next dark lord.  Or, someone else could emerge as the dark lord.  There are many possiblities.

Forgive me for not being clear but I meant most game post SotN. LoI and Aria are the only 2 that contribut anything story wise.

PoR explained a bit about the whip, and OoE revealed what happened to Dracula's seal after SotN. HoD also explained how Dracula still came back after Simon split him up the second time. That's a bit more than nothing.

Though DoS and CoD didn't really contribute anything as far as I can remember.

The IGA vanias storyline is confusing, and almost crap.
For example, about OOE, it seems hat that Dracula's vessel was done by the 360/PS3 game, because in SOTN, Dracula isn't sealed anywhere, and we don't have any information about it. About the war (1999) we don't have anything but the ending, about the lost belmont blood, nothing, about the future of trevor, hector and Shanoa, nothing, about how the Belnades surname could pass to a child from its mother, nothing.
Castlevania seems to have a big universe since IGA is here, but, the major plot, is  fractioned, or incompleted, or lost.

In Reply To #96 I agree, there are dozens of points in the storyline that never were filled in, and this makes the overall story really confusing

What we need is for Iga to rethink the timeline and once that is done, make games to fill in the blanks.  Some games aren't necessary because they don't contribute to the timeline.  However, they could contribute if they tie into a future game that also contributes.  For example, if a future game has a decendant of Hector who references him, then CoD will contribute as well.  This example is unlikely though.

As for another "sorrow" game, such a game could be good if it actually advances to storyline.  For example, a new dark lord emerges during Soma's lifetime.  It all depends on if the game advances the storyline or contributes to the storyline in some other way.

speaking of descendants of Hector, ever since I read the CoD manga, I've wondered if perhaps Hector's last name might be "Renard".  Look at the way all the "normal" beasts flocked to him.

How could a new dark lord emerge in Soma's lifetime if he IS the dark lord?(technacly) Also, what would the new "sorrow" game be called, do you think? :\
P.S. HECTOR RENARD!?

Just because Soma is Dracula's reincarnation doesn't mean that he is meant to become the dark lord.

Geez haven't you ever seen star wars?

I think it would be best he (iga) or someone else started a new storyline based off the old games. and this time actually sit down, think, and fit the games to the story and not the story to the games.
