Title: Belmont gets NO respect.

Belmonts get NO respect.. Here's a thread to vent.

Hah!  This is pretty funny.  I went with Leon, as it would suck to have to kill your fiance.  Nothing in Belmont history has been that bad.

Sonia and Victor Belmont, of course.

What, no Desmond?

Anywho, Soleyu and Victor. Sonia at least got a game.

Christopher Belmont for having to fight his son (I wonder if Soleiyu ever recovered from that...) and Leon for having to kill his wife.

What, Simon went through agonising physical pain?

BAWWWWWWWWW!

To me, a Belmont's greatest pain is that of hurting others, not being hurt themselves.

I went with Chris, one of the few Belmonts to have to fight Dracula twice, beat his son down, and is barely remembered. D:  I mean, that sucks!

And Leon, because that's some bad shit to happen to someone.  Of course, it birthed an eternal grudge against vampires for the Belmont clan...

Story-wise, Leon.  Everything that happened to him was totally messed up.

Reality-wise, Christopher.  He's in some pretty good games but comparatively, not that many people seem to care about him.

HAHA, this is hilarious!

Good points for each character though. My vote goes to Christopher. I've been saying that for years. He's the most unsung, unappreciated Belmont I think. I would love if the next Chronicles game is a re-telling of Christopher's story.

For me Chris is one of the best and underrated Belmont's.

Christopher is coming on strong --and I agree he needs a Chronicles remake game, but he got screwed in another way you guys might not realize...  Curse of Darkness stole Dracula's first resurrection away from Chris.  There was so much potential to explain away Dracula's rite of resurrection --and even catch the Belmonts completely off-guard.  These rites may have been a closely guarded secret --to lull the people of Europe into a false sense of security after Trevor's victory...  But again this unique type of Castlevania story-telling was never even attempted in the game that stole Christopher's thunder.   :(

Leon storyline wise: he so far as had the worst things happen to him and never really quite got to get back Dracula personally for any of it. His entire story so far is the most tragic. But at least he got a whip out of it and got to smack around Death a few times.  :P

Chris wins no respect wise: honestly, he's one of the most underrated in the series and he's actually done some things worthy of him being considered pretty damn awesome but Belmont standards. Plus having to save his son had to have sucked. He got gipped in the 'Greatest 5' department.

Julius, because being the last of a lineage > other concerns, especially in this scenario, and especially if usurped by someone like our lab coat loving friend...

Sonia and Christopher. Christopher for the reasons stated above, and Sonia because while the storyline that she came up with may have been an excuse to score a quick buck on Konami's part, the idea of a female Belmont is pretty cool and they should have at least reworked her story rather than being lazy and throwing it aside completely.

I'd have to say that Sonia got screwed the most. IGA literally Martyred her just so he could put in his own personal Castlevania origin that he could live with. :P

Juste, Leon, and Chris. i can't decide because all 3 had to go through almost killing(or did in Leon's case) someone close to them. Sure Leon had to slay his wife but it was for revenge and it would be helping someone, in other words their was a reason for it. But Juste just was going to kill his friend because Maxim was part of Dracula and Belmont's can't have that. No comment of Chris because i never played his games.

I don't really care about Sonia since she never really existed. ;) The most unsung Belmont, imo, is Christopher.  They should remake his games, but better versions where you don't walk the pace of a snail.

Never existed? according to Iga's time line yes but thats a little harsh to say she never existed. Besides that once Iga parts with the series ::) I'm sure someone will retcon his games too.

O yea and wheres Juese Belmont on the list?

yeah, that's really sad. poor Belmonts.. I think the ones who have the worst off, is Julius and Richter.
reasons why
reason#1( for Julius ): why would Julius get amnesia, right after he killed off Dracula for good, in 1999? maybe it's because that some person wanted him to forget everything about the past and his own bloodline? that's really sad. I would think he should have kept his memories, so he'll remember his own past, before 2035 came along.
reason#2( for Richter ): man, I guess something must have happened, between the 4 years, after he first killed Dracula that time. of course Shaft possessed him and controlled him like a puppet, but how did he possess him? that's the question.

now, I got the worst off Belmonts out, how about the best off? that's simple. it's Juste and Simon.
reasons why
reason#1( for Juste ): even though that Juste is Simon's grandson(ironic, isn't it?), at least that everyone is still alive, if you get the best ending. and that creepy merchant disappears without a whim, after the castle(s) is destroyed. >.>
reason#2( for Simon ): maybe different outfits is good, so you won't get your clothes all stinky, from wearing them day in and day out without washing them; especially, when he changes his hair color too, because he's trying to find his own style to keep. ;3

so, there you have it. X3 those are my opinions, and I'm sticking by them.

What's even worse is that since he wasn't alone during the battle, his "friends" didn't even help him recover said memories! What the hell were Alucard Belnades & Hakuba doing. What exactly is the agency Alucard belongs to? And why change his name to Genya anyway.

Yeah Alucard is a real mystery to all cv.

Ugh, Iga haters |: [
But seriously, it was retconned because it didn't make any sense and really screwed up the timeline. Its placement in the timeline negated CVIII, since that would be a resurrection, and full resurrections don't happen but once every 100 years. Alucard was also barely born by that point, let alone ready to have a child with a vampire hunter (errr). The whole Sonia - Alucard thing is also really badly done from the start :-\
Also, why would he kill her to keep her from fighting Dracula? It doesn't make any sense :| I hate it when that stuff is done...
Her design is also awful. People say Iga's sexist for retconning her, but it's extremely obvious that she was put in the game, and designed the way she is, only for sex appeal, i.e. to sell more copies of the game via boobs. Doesn't that seem sexist to you?

Personally, I don't feel Sonia's underrated, but rather overrated: There's always some fans out there trying to justify her, when there's really no justification aside from "she's a woman lulz"

I completely agree with you it's just we can always count it as an alternate. Also I don't hate Iga infact he has actually kept the series consistently high quality.

Sonia's story was not consistent with the original timeline to begin with. IGA actually FIXED the inconsistencies timeline by removing Legends. Lament does not contradict any part of the original timeline.

...ummm, what?

No seriously, what?

Aside from the fact that she didn't even have item crashes, saying that gameplay elements make a storyline worthy is just ridiculous.

And Strider, it's good to know that you weren't saying that Iga wasn't taking care of the series, but I must admit the following sentence does kinda give off the wrong image:

Besides that once Iga parts with the series ::) I'm sure someone will retcon his games too.

It sounds kind of like a bitter KCEK or Legends fanboy/girl saying that the retcon was a bad decision :P

Indeed it does, but no I just suffer from wanting a coherent story. btw I really don't enjoy the n64 games and i have never played legends, only CotM.

It would be really nice if he remade 3 like DXC though

Sonia got shafted worse than Richter (*rim-shot*) or any other Belmont in my estimation. Simply because she was designed for the sole purpose of giving CV a female protagonist and nothing more. - No substance, no originality, nada. As if that weren't bad enough, she gets dumped into a third-rate Game Boy cart with nothing different to do than Christopher before her, and winds up having to recite some of the lamest, most sophomoric dialogue this side of the WB/CW network. Even the worst of shojo anime gets packaged prettier than this! But the pen-ultimate rusty nail in her corpse came with the lazy idea to officially take her and everything associated with her out of the series. Yes sir-ree Bobby, this girl was given a backdoor screwing with a baseball bat and no reach-around hands down.

But when I look at how the poll is laid out, I can't help but observe how literally EVERY Belmont throughout history has indeed been royally screwed in more ways than one. Perhaps based on the reasons presented on this post alone, choosing a second Belmont would be too close to call for me. If I had to pick one though, I'd have to say Juste wins the runner up slot. Poor little pasty-faced dandy, relegated to being the first ever cookie-cut Alucard lookalike hero with barely any attention paid to his adventure's overall content. People credit Igarashi-sama with reinvigorating the series? I say this clunky GBA Symphony wannabe was the first sign that maybe the dude and his core creative team were a lot more flash than substance.

Both.  Examples of each are cited within the poll itself.

I say Sonia and Leon have it the worst.

Sonia had a horrible game.  But honestly, I thought that a female Belmont would be a nice change.  If done correctly, such a character has a lot of potential IMO.

Leon had it the worst because unlike his decendents, he actually was completely manipulated.  I'm not saying that Richter wasn't manipulated, but he at least had the excuse of being possessed by the ghost of a dark priest.  Leon wasn't possessed at all and ended up doing one of the hardest and most depraved things in order to gain the power he needed (a "human sacrifice").
