Title: The battle of 1999.Wait, theres no game yet?
Post by: darklordcandidate on July 08, 2009, 07:04:36 AM
When in the heck are they going to make a game about the famous battle of 1999. I mean, that's one of the most famous events in the game's history!  >:(

Y'know at this point I don't really see the need. We already know what happens. AoS and DoS explained it all.

True, but it would still be nice to see how they actually defeat Dracula for good and how strong the young Julius actually was.

Well hopefully the reason for IGA's absense is because he's working on it, in gorgeous HD 2D!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt we'll ever get a game for the 1999 events, but at least we know what happens, for the most part. I would still love to see a game of this come out. Then we'd have a whole "sorrow" trilogy

The difference between games that haven't come out and the 1999 game is that we know what happened in Julius's story because AoS said it. Julius fought Dracula with the help of the Hakuba family, sealed Dracula, left the whip in the castle, and lost his memory.

Quite a bit different than "X Belmont goes into Castle, fights and kills Dracula."

actually I'd be just fine if they didn't do a game. Don't want any George Lucas Syndrome. He already took a lot of liberties with COD (though I love the game).

yeah, but that's still a lame summary.

epople could make a single sentenace summary of LOI/COD/SOTN/CoM/AoS/DoS/OoE story, and it's totally different from actually playing those adventures and experiencing it yourself.

I would like to meet the Hakuba who were involved, and the bosses they fought, and the differences of the castle, and
the new gameplay twists they might add, etc. etc.

sigh....I guess some people don't care about Castlevania franchise much.

It doesn't seem IGA really had any hard plans to make a 1999 game.

GR: Kind of changing gears a little bit. Obviously the back story of the two Sorrow games is the Dracula War of 1999. Can you tell us when we might find out more about that story, and Julius?

KI: You want more details of the War in 1999?

GR: That story sounds very exciting - the final battle against Dracula. I was wondering when in general, we might find out more...

KI: Did you know that my game creation is not based upon the timeline? I come up with the gameplay system and then try to find the right timeline. There was one product where I actually started off with the timeline - that was Lament of Innocence on PS2.

GR: Because that started the series.

KI: Right. But I always come up with the gameplay system first. Currently I do take control of my team members but I want to think about the gameplay system first - I do complain and make a lot of comments to it. But once the team comes up with the new game system and then I think it's right to put it in 1999, then I will tell a story in that timeline.

GR: But you're in charge of the scenario writing for all the games, right?

KI: Actually I'm thinking of retiring with the storyboards. Maybe I will only review, not writing from scratch.

I'm sorry... I'm getting busier and busier. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting too old. I'm just waiting for my lottery winnings and then I can leave Konami.

I personally think that castlevania doesnt need, but could use the boost that this potential game would offer. Think about it, AoS & DoS already gave a general description of the events, but I would love to see how it played out first-hand.

That interview was the one that made change my opinion about IGa, since I've read it, I hated him. He sucks, I mean, with That I realised that he only make games for $$$$ and without thinking of us, the fans; correct me if I'm wrong, but we all love Castlevania because its story and it's a shame that IGa doesn't care about that and he makes it only for stuff.

Well if IGA's going to do a castlevania game about the 1999 sinario then he'd better do it right. I would personally take the game back to it's roots and give the castletroid formula a rest. This game is obviously about war; the demon castle war of 1999. It should be a hardcore action game with lots of interesting things going on and a solid story with a dynamite cast to boot. But knowing IGA it just might be a pipedream.  :'(

^^^I think I recall hearing IGA mention something like that. I recall hearing IGA say that he is very cautious regarding a 1999 game because so many people have different ideas on what happens with the final battle, and he compares it to the Star Wars prequels, where people know some of the ideas of what was going to be present in those prequels, but the prequels themselves fell short of many's expectations. IGA didn't want a similar thing to happen with the Demon Castle War.

I also think that is why the Julius game may not be made.  Because of DOS and AOS, the Julius adventure is seen as the best nonexistant CV title ever.  If Iga makes the game, more than likely a lot of gamers will be disappointed in it.

This reason is also why the new Monkey Island title isn't the fifth MI game that is talked about in MI4; MI4 mentions MI5 nd fans thinks Threepwood would discover the real secrets of MI

To be fair about Tales of Monkey Island... Besides the one designer stating that Tales was set after a "fictional" Monkey Island 5, said before the game was released and was still being finished (concept information is not too reliable).

The game actually doesn't talk about any fictional monkey island 5. It pretty much starts out as previous Monkey Island games for example such as the sequence between Monkey Island 2 and Monkey Island 3, in which we are only given hints about his adventure and escape from the Carnival of the Damned.

Also of note the game is a joint operation by Taletale and Lucasarts which specifically noted in the introduction video, and much of the staff are the staff behind the previous games. Sure Ron Gilbert isn't part of the staff, but he hasn't made the games since the second one.

For all intents and purposes Tales of Monkey Island is Monkey Island. I bet that any called "Monkey Island 6" (noting that hte series hasn't actually held any numbers other than the second game), will likely take place after Tales of Monkey Island.

As for knowing the Secret, well its been stated by Gilbert that is a runnin gag. Even if he had been continuing to make the game he probably wouldn't have explained the Secret.

As a related note an early gag in Tales from Monkey Island explains that Guybrush still doesn't know what the Secret is. So any finding Secrets has to take place after the game (I'm pretty sure the Secret isn't going to be in Tales).

I see your point, however, who's to say that there is no hope for this game. Sure, there are restraints because of how the Star Wars prequils caused so much dissapointment, but there is a lot of support for this game (this chat room for example) and it will only continue to grow. Castlevania games have great storylines, a wide cast of characters, and freakin' awesome music. There is no way that this would be a total crash-and-burn with this kind of reputation. I have confidence that this game will see the light it most rightfully deserves.
