I hate the mortal kombat series, but if anything this is probably going to be the best one. It at least looks balanced from the footage and pretty fun I guess. I probably won't get it, but if any of my bud's get it I guess i'll play :/

Same boat here. The MK series has been pretty bad for a long, long time, and I'm not buying this one either, but that Kung Lao fatality had me pretty surprised. That was really gruesome...a far cry from the cartoonish pull-your-skeleton-out-of-your-mouth fatalities they've been doing for years. It was awesome.

Well one of the main problems with previous MK games was mostly in part having to do with Midway themselves, and not so much Ed Boon and his staff.

When I refer to Midway and Ed Boon and his development staff, I am referring to Midway as a company who is sets the budget and development period that Boon and his team adhere to within set amount.

Midway gave development team extremely limited budgets and short development times (Midway wasn't exactly most profitable company and thus could not offer as much freedoms)

Warner Brothers however is a multi-billion dollar corporation and has given Netherrealm Studios a much bigger budget then any MK game in the past, Not to mention this particular MK game has been in development for 3 years (far longer then any MK game to date), and the time and money involved is showing the quality of the game thus far.

This new MK is obviously good enough to get a pass as as one of the main events at EVO 2011 and not merely side event (Something that has NEVER happened before, making this the first time an MK as a main tournament). MK has already had a playable build at PAX and most of those that played that build left with an extremely positive impression and the game was largely unfinished with only 10 characters (out of the 26 currently rumored)

There is no telling how much more improved the game gets with the additional characters included not available in the build at PAX and further balancing done as it we get closer to it's release date in April.

No game ever gets accepted as a main event at EVO without some sort of testimony of it's actual quality as a competitive viable and playable game, The EVO directors and staff at SRK are quite strict in deciding what game makes a showing for the main line up each year. It's not like they put a bunch of names in a hat and pick randomly.

If the directors of the one of the biggest competitive fighting game tournaments in the world think this new MK is good enough to be one of the MAIN tournaments at EVO, then that should speak well enough for the game in regards to it as actual decent fighting game.

One of the best things to ever have happened to the MK series is Midway closing it's doors and Warner Bros. purchasing Midway's remaining franchises. The fact that the competitive fighting game community is taking this game more seriously then any other MK game in the past is just a testament to this.

Mortal Kombat Demo will be avaible next week for PS plus and the following week for regular PSN members... It will feature Sub Zero, Scorpion, Mileena and Johnny Cage and 2 Stages The Pit and The Living Forest.

No X360 release... ;D

Oh! And here's the new trailer for the new Challenge Tower Mode.
Mortal Kombat: Challenge Tower Exclusive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYDRPjyFMRU#ws) This looks really cool and funny... The more i see about this game the more i like...

Looks really fun, I like the way they inject a sense of humour into the game, although some of the missions look a little stupid (headless combat?)  The graphics look beautiful too. I'm glad MK has come a long way since the 90s.

Everything you just said destroys my perception of a corporation like Warner Bros but they are getting this one right. Damn right! The game looks really good from a game play standpoint. The tag team element looks light years more appealing than any Capcom machination I have seen. The X-ray special is classic and brilliant. They put thought into this one and if Warner Bros likes to make $$$ they will continue to listen to fans and improve their market development. This game is gonna be tits. Hellatits!!!

Let's see if they have the balls (heh) to let him do that to female characters too.

I'm pretty sure they won't. I mean, Johnny Cage couldn't do his crotch strike against women. :)

Johhny Cage CAN do this special move against women.
More than that - his X-Ray involves several pucnhes like that.

I was referring to MK2 (I think that was the first game in which he used the move). But if he can do that this time, there might be a chance of Kung Lao sawing women in half vertically  :-*

Cool videos, but what does Kratos have to do with anything?  :P

Hey, does anyone remember this?
Sure, everybody watched the Mortal Kombat movie, but did you know there was also a TV series, and a surprisingly good one?
I remember watching it as a kid. It was quite inspirational for me, and I saw Raiden as the ultimate fantasy wizard / mentor / old awesome dude far before I ever heard of Gandalf or Dumbledore.

I've head of this series but never watched it. I only saw a tiny clip and that was about it. I loved the first movie, but was really disappointed with the second flick. There were too many characters at one time, making it seem rushed and not very enjoyable. The Emperor's voice was NOT how it was in the first film (let alone his face). Lu Kang's Anamality was not how it was portrayed in the game (European dragon over chines dragon). And unfortunately Christopher Lambert did not reprise his role as Raiden. I also didn't like how they killed off Jonny Cage right at the start rather then having him die in a more acceptable sense (like in a real heated battle rather then the emperor just twisting his head  :P. If they had spread it out through a number of films rather then filling up one film and adding only so many characters here and there, then I think they couldv'e pulled it off. But they didn't take the time to do so. They were in a rush and made a glorified mess of things. And what was up with that council of gods that Raiden was apart of? I've never heard of them, let alone see them in and MK game.

thanks for posting the vids affinity.

I've always wanted Boon to focus more on storyline and it appears he is doing just that with this game which is pretty awesome.

I'll definitely be getting this game soon.

Also its pretty badass that Sub Zero apparently killed scorpion after Armaggedon.

I'm not too hot on MK, but I'd be happy to see somebody smash Kratos's stupid face into a pulp.  FUN FACT:  Sony gave Nethererrealm Studios a list of restrictions as to how much Kratos could be harmed in fatalities.  The result is that many fatalities work differently on him  One example is that, whereas Mileena usually mangles the decapitated heads of her victims, she leaves Kratos's pristine.

Because clearly Kratos should be treated with kid gloves.

Actually, I should edit that. I'm not too hot on MK, but it does hold a nostialgic place in my heart, and some of the visual character designs are cool. Like... I like Cyber Sub-Zero. He looks awesome.

But yeeeeah.  Kratos.  Most of the differences are minor. Like, whenm Reptile normally vomits acid down someone's throat, he only vomits it over Kratos.

H-how is that plot good? I mean the game might have more focused presentation but I don't necessarily think that makes it a better story.
I mean it's good for a enjoyably bad camp story, but beyond that, hhhhh.

The writing was generally pretty decent.  For example, Johnny Cage totally stole every role he was in, there were a few other amusing in-jokes here and there, and so on.  I got a pretty big chuckle out of the aftermath of Johnny Cagevs. Baraka, and how it poked fun at the first movie.

This game is awesome.  I've been playing the hell out of the game and I finished Story Mode.
Topnotch work with the stages and the scenarios, even if the characters are sometimes terribly textured (Johnny Cage's and Liu Kang's Hair, every woman's cleavage).

Having played 1 and 3 on the Genesis recently, I remember why I never got into these as a kid - they were awful, awful games. But the newer ones I've enjoyed a lot more, and this one looks hilarious, so I'll probably nab it at some point.

I want MK vs SF already. Need Johnny Cage and Dan Hibiki tag team. Now.

I am kind of sad about them taking out the variety of finishers that MK Trilogy had. I had quite a few laughs at the Friendships.

The Animalities would be great if the animals people transformed into killed the opponent in ways that had nothing to do with their nature. Like a gorilla stabbing someone with a knife.

Mortal Kombat: Liu Kang Fatalities (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4v8JGTAXvYk#ws)
As you can see from this video, Liu Kang's first fatality is the only one in the game I think that resembles an animality so that's something I guess.

The multi-button combos have to be executed fairly quickly or they won't work.  The timing of it takes some getting used to.  And you really have to spend some time with any given character to really get a feel for him/her.  Once you do the game does get to be more fun.
