Honestly, I think the phrasing of the actors is a lot better as are the voices themselves for the most part. The only voice that I thought was worse was Death. Alucard actually kinda sounds like Stuart Townsend in "Queen Of The Damned" which I liked, and the exchange between Al & The Succubus was AWESOME! Very well done! Her voice was fantastic this time around.
I'll take well acted voices over crappy over-acted ones any day of the week thank you very much!

That's funny b/c that's actually why I didn't like his voice. To each his own i guess

Yeah I liked Succubus too

I just think the old VAs had that sorta ambience to them.. Alucard's voice was cold & empty, while Maria's was mature & confident. The new voices don't capture that quality imo. Dracula's voice is ok, I just don't like the dialogue they gave him but oh well.
Librarian's voice is perfect!

I agree about Drac's voice. It was too high for my tastes in the original. I think if they'd have Robert Belgrade do HIS voice instead of Al's it might have been a little more to my liking. To each his own though. :)
-
The Va's aren't all that bad in the new one... some i like, some I dislke, and some are ok.
But the "Likewise" is one of the stupidest lines I've ever heard.
-
videos plz.
-
The new Richter is a little less wooden than the old one, but he overacts just as much. It's especially bad when he's "evil Richter."
But I'm mainly dissatisfied with the new script, not necessarily the new VA.
-
True,. the script is horrid, the new va is just... not that good.
-
In Reply To #7
Lol the new voices are a poor replacement for the classic original ones.
-
In Reply To #8
Indeed... but some of it is somethgin I won't really complain about. Its decent enough for me not to hate. Like FFX, where every converstation has like 10 10 seconds pauses.
-
The voice acting might have been ok with me if it wasn't for the script. I thought they were re-writing the script....not making some odd paraphrase. ok old man. (oh how i wanted to shoot al for that line.)
-
I like both, old and new.
But I've always liked the JP version more.
-
yes the script is bad imo,the new va is bad in some parts but good in others. ::)
but i hate alucards new voice and maria's sounds like a kid.lol
and Richter's new voice wasn't that much better but a little bit ;D
but he still over acted like some say ::)
but anyone who would say that the new ones are well acted voices and better than the crappy over-acted old ones.
i can't understand that guy.lol
but to each his own ones man trash is another man's well you know ;D
and imho the new ones are trash compared with the great old ones ;D
i loved how great alucards voice was when sotn came out.
that might be one of the reasons i played the game 1000 times :P
but next time i play it it'll be the psx ver because thats where my beloved voices are ;)
*I've come to put a end to this.*
not i want a cookie old man.lol
-
The new succubus is awesome though, compared to that crappy old one. Hell, she might be even slightly better than the original japanese voice.
-
I think the new Succubus is either Wendee Lee or Janyse Jaud since I tend to get the latter confused with the former despite they both sound different.
-

yes she was good the thing is my biggest thing is alucard change :'(
new maria sucks and richter is not much better than the old.
and drac's old voice was better too but the biggest thing that piss me off was alucard.lol
COOKIE!!!!
COOKIE OLD MAN!
;D

I don't think ppl will ever be happy with the key character voices in SOTN.

She doesn't sound too young, she sounds too modern. But thats a scropt problem. I like em both, but I prefer the old one.
-
Part of my big complaint about the original voices was the phrasing of them. Maybe it's because I'm a musician and I tend to listen a lot to the rhythm at which people talk, but the old voices sounded so unnatural and like the people delivering the lines did so out of context and almost as if they didn't really even speak English in the first place.
THAT is why I think the new voices are so much better. That and, yeah, I'll admit it, I thought Alucard's new voice sounded kinda like Stuart Townsend in "Queen Of The Damned." He didn't sound like some pervert trying to affect a deep voice.
-
In Reply To #18
I too like the new va for the same reason. Although I am no musician, I prefer the new vas since it does sound more natural than the old ones.
I think some ppl prefer the old ones because it is so bad that it is funny. I mean, a lot of ppl on the forums were disappointed that "Die Monster" is removed. Honestly, though it would be very hard to keep that intact w/o sounding so cheesey.
Also, I find it funny that a post on youtube said that the old voices are legendary and the poster impiles that ppl back in the 18th century talks like the original voice actors in SOTN. I mean, I am no historian, but I don't think ppl back then talked with the use of cosntantly shorting and expanding every other word to make the conversation dramatic. If so, it would seem to take a lot of breath. Besides, if that guy wanted authenticity, he should expect the Vas with thick European accent.
If ppl really did indeed spoke english like the old vas in the 18th century, I'd imagine a normal conversation in modern times (modern because I doubt adult publications like playboy existed 200 years ago) would be:
"Hello VEEENDDDER!! Do....you..HAVE..any..PLLLAAAYBOOY Maagazines?"
"YES, I dooooooo! This isssue conntains LOTS of FLLEESH! Would youuuuu care to BUUY IT!"
"Yes, I...do!"
"THEN HAVE AT YOOOU!!"
I wonder if ppl were anrgy at the Resident Evil GC remake when they redubbed the voices.
-
Is there anywhere that has voice files of the new Succubus? I had to return my PSP and I hadn't gotten to that part yet.

How the hell can you say that the new voice acting sounds natural and rhythmic?! The context and phrasing are a joke! You must not be that great of a musician.

What the fuck dude!? I make a living doing it so I can't be that bad.
In Reply To #19
Lol that little skit was really funny! But I agree, I think it's the cheese factor that makes people love them so much. I liked them because they were cheesy too, but I'd much rather have well done voices.
-
In Reply To #22
Apparently you have a horrible sense of humor too if you thought what le052383 wrote was "really funny!" But the reason why so many people are disappointed with the new voice acting is, not only is it horrible, but we were all expecting an improvement not a decline in the quality.
-
In Reply To #22
Uh oh Docta Mario- this guy says you have a bad taste in music and humor? This guy means business.
Anyways, I agree with you. The pacing was far too awkward in the original. I blame in part the theatrical flair the script had- like "What....do you here?" and "Yououo will regret those wordsss." The pacing itself was far too slow and choppy.

He's pissed at me because I called him out on another thread.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the phrasing and the contexts. I think the old script tried a little TOO hard to be "old English" and therefore a little more "of the period." It probably could have been saved with some good voice acting, but as it was the VA was as weak as the script itself, IMO.
-
In Reply To #22
I too love a more serious and well done voice acting as oppose to unintentable cheesy voice acting. Honestly, bad voice acting ruins a game or rather, the cutscenes for me since it hurts my ears, so I normally would skip such scenes. But with the voice acting is good, I would watch it over and over again.

I'm not pissed at you for "calling me out in another thread." To be honest, I don't even know what you're referring to. It just angers me that somebody can defend such a horrible downgrade in both the script and voice acting, especially when it was stated that it was going to be improved. I mean come on, it sounds like the same guy is voicing each character, and badly mind you.

It would be nice if the main protagonist didn't sound like a pussy in the new va.

Well then what's up with the personal attacks? If you've got something to talk to me about, PM me and let's do it. If not, then stop talking shit about me and present a logical rebuttal other than, "The new voice acting and script sucks."
In Reply to #28
I don't think he sounds like a pussy, he just doesn't sound like a movie announcer anymore. In all actuality, the new voice is more what I pictured Alucard sounding like. The old voice sounds like him trying to get voiceover work. :P

Oh, stop your crying. Taking offense to a comment I made about your musical abilities when we both know I have never even heard your work is absurd. But then again, saying that you can find rhythm in the way people talk because you're a musician is just as ridiculous. It doesn't take a musician to tell if something is good or void of any talent. In fact, I'm also a musician. However, even if I wasn't, I would still be able to realize how bad and out of place the VA in this game is.

i'm with you the new VA sucks, plus somebody saying he can tell how much better the new VA is because he makes music sounds dumb as hell :P
not trying to be an asshole or anything but.
In Reply To #29
if i said bloodrayen 2 was a better vampire movie than blade and i know because i write movie scripts.
it would only be right for someone to say you must suck at writing then!
same thing here, i was thinking what he said i just didn't post it because i wanted to be nicer ::)
but the new VA and the script suck imo and the old is bad ass.
plus alucard 400 years old and had a make over for SOTN after vampire hunter d.
so he's not to sound like a punk ass kid like in the new VA.
but a cool detached 400 year old vampire!
and the old VA got him just right when i heard that they was going to redo it i knew it wasn't going to be as good as the old but.
i was hoping for something alot better than what we got.
you like the new VA cool happy for you but i'm sure theres more ppl who don't like the change.
so who cares lets all just stick with what we like but if you put down the old VA and call it shit you can bet you'll have ppl bashing you for the new VA.
you show no respect you get none and you say
present a logical rebuttal
why all your logical rebuttal is i write music so i i know it sounds better?
i don't know about other ppl but i hate to hear ppl act like they know more by saying something like that.lol
about the same if i said i know more because i ate pie last night ;D
oh well sorry if i'm being an ass a little but i like the old and don't see what you like in the new,and i can understand if you hate the old and let it go at that because thats your right.
but i don't like the way your trying to say you know more about it just because you make music when that mean nothing really imo.
oh well i guess i'll come across an asshole, but i stayed at a holiday inn so i know more than you all!!!
lol

Cortez, it's obvious to me that you and Thomas didn't read my actual post. I didn't insinuate that I know better because I'm a musician, I said:
Maybe it's because I'm a musician and I tend to listen a lot to the rhythm at which people talk
Tell me where in that line i meant to say that I'm better than you because I'm a musician. I simply said what I said. If you take it to mean that I'm saying I'm better than you, well, then that's on you, and I'd say you have an inferiority complex that you should deal with.

I'm not crying, I'm just wondering why you're attacking me because I said I listen to the rhythm in which people speak and I tend to listen to that sort of thing because I'm a musician. It's uncalled for and really has no context. As I said before, if you've got a problem with me, PM me and let's do it. You have your opinion and nothing I say will change it because you've already made up your mind. If you just posted here to flame me, you've accomplished your goal. Move along and quit trying to derail my thread.

See but here's the thing, I was stating my opinion. My bringing up the fact that I'm a musician was only used to talk about the fact that it influences the way I listen to people and that because of that, I felt that the rhythm in the voices in the original version were unnatural to my ear. My opinion. Show me where i said it was fact.
Oh and so you know, a script writer COULD point out the difference between a good script and a bad one. It's part of knowing the craft.
but the new VA and the script suck imo and the old is bad ass.
<.....>

All your opinion and that's fine. I just happen to disagree.
so who cares lets all just stick with what we like you put down the old VA and call it shit you can bet you'll have ppl bashing you for the new VA.
I agree with your first statement here. But show me where I called it "shit." I simply said I didn't like the way it sounded.
you show no respect you get none and you saywhy all your logical rebuttal is i write music so i i know it sounds better?
Again, I don't think you actually read my post, you simply posted a knee jerk reaction based on what Thomas thought I said.
i don't know about other ppl but i hate to hear ppl act like they know more by saying something like that.lol
oh well sorry if i'm being an ass a little but i like the old and don't see what you like in the new,and i can understand if you hate the old and let it go at that because thats your right.

I understand why people like the old VA. IT's the same reason still watch "Plan #9 From Outer Space." Because it's cheesy. And that's fine. But you should really do some reading before you start putting words in my mouth and making assumptions at what you think I meant. You like the old, I like the new. Nothing will change. Game over.
-
The problem in my opinion is that there are ppl trying to change other ppl's mind about which version they like rather than letting ppl like what they want to like, therefore, they are getting in these personal attacks; from what I see, it appears that there are a few individuals are taking this way too seriously than they should, as if a person's perference in va is like an insult to another's mother.
This is the internet, so we will all have different taste in things.
-

It's DoctaMario's opinion, not yours. Let it go.
If he likes the new voice actors and has reason for it, more power to him since it is his opinion.
-
I understand why people like the old VA. IT's the same reason still watch "Plan #9 From Outer Space." Because it's cheesy. And that's fine.
I remember months ago when I told my friend about SOTN getting new vas, he was disappointed since he liked the cheesy voice acting, explaining how the dialogue is hilarious like the original Resident Evil game.
-
Hey guys, I'm gonna come in and say this now, and if it keeps going, the thread's gonna be closed.
Take it to PM. Stop your whining, all of you, and get back on topic.
-
With regards to voice acting, modernizing the script itself can lend improvement, but CoD's script proved that you can include 'ye olde' text and still pull it off. Except whoever voiced Julia...
-
In Reply To #37
True. I thought the va and script for COD was done really well. I think that game has the best VA when compared to the other cv games.
-
In Reply To #37
I agree with that! God only knows how many movies have come out with questionable script writing that have been saved by good acting performances!
Oh and LE, I LOVED those old school Joes! Thrasher and Snake Eyes were my faves!
-
I don't see a problem with the new VA's at all. The script makes more sense than it did before and honestly, no one sounds ridiculously bad. I can actually tell when characters are feeling other emotions now, as their voices erm, actually change.
Maria sounds a little younger, but I don't think that's bad
since she's not suppose to be like 20 something anyway. (Her voice was nice in the original but she sounded way older than she's suppose to be.)
I can understand why people prefer the older VA's and horrible script (it's classic) but what I don't understand is why people pretend it was actually GOOD and insult people that actually do like the new script and VA's. Yes it was funny and cheesy but it was still bad. Even if you don't like the VA's, the scrpit makes much better sense now.

MaddiChan! Welcome back! :)
I agree with you about Maria's voice. Her voice in the original was sexy, but as you pointed out, she WAS kind of young. SHe seems a little more brash in the new game to me too.
-
The new script is stilted garbage.
-
It's clear that the revision was just a reactionary measure to the infamy of the original voice acting (especially since the rest of Blaustein's localization, all the non-spoken text, has been left intact).
They did revised the description for Frozen Half to make it clearer for us english speakers.

I don't appreciate the insinuation that the only grounds for preferring the old script and VA is that it is "cheesy" or "classic." It is presumptuous to tell someone else why they like something.
It seems most likely that there would be pros and cons to each iteration, while most seem to assume one or the other is terrible. They are both hit or miss.
As for my opinion, some of the old voice work/script did have rough spots, and also perfectly adequate, even strong spots. Some of it is cheesy, but I like it alright in spite of that, not because of it.
-
In Reply To #43
That's an interesting theory LE and I wouldn't at all be surprised if that was one of the big motivating factors as to why they changed it.
In Reply To #44
Usually the reasons people cite most as to why they like the old voice acting are because it's cheesy and classic. *shrugs*
-
I never thght the old ones were cheesy, classic... maybe, but they were awesome, withthe exception of Succubus' death, that can shatter eardrums.
-

thats why ppl get a little pissed because of saying its cheesy and all messed up just because they don't like them.
but i think the new VA sounds like a bunch of kids got together and did the VA imo.lol
so who cares i think the old VA is great very well done and cool as hell ;D
but i shouldn't had took it the way i did.
it's really not worth fighting over, alot of ppl love things that other ppl think is dog shit.
just the way life is,i think i just played sotn too many times ;D
-
The original, classic thing blows the crap out of this one. Then again, it did so to the old usa voices too. Speaking of the real original+classic japanese voices, not this dubbed crap of course. :o
It's like for example someone taking the simpsons, changing their voices to russian, renaming homer to something else and unrelated, removing all the classic lines/catchphrases, then having everyone call that a classic and the original usa release some crap nobody except "weabos" cares about. :P
-
I never played the PSP version yet.
-
In Reply To #48
Except Castlevania doesn't take place in Japan. If the Simpsons took place in India, Russian may make just as much sense.
-
In Reply To #50
If the Simpsons were created by Russians, they'd be bound to speak Russian.
It's not like speaking English-speaking characters outside of Johnny Morris makes any sense, either.
-
In Reply To #51
That wouldn't make it natural.
-
I'm not sure what you're saying. Are you saying they should speak English instead of Japanese?
-
In Reply To #53
I'm just faulting Serio's analogy. One language is as good as another. Here something European has been appropriated by Japan, Japanicized, and than Romanized back to us in English.
-

Hey mario is there an option for the original voices in the game? Just curious cuz I've always wondered what everyone sounds like in the original dub.
-
Castlevania never takes place in usa either, and england only for a brief amount of time (one level in bloodlines). By your logic almost everyone in cv should speak romanian. Only three characters were really from usa, Leon supposedly from france, and then there were few from spain (there may be some possibilities of characters from other countries too, but they weren't really specified).
And Death should be speaking some demonic language from hell. :P
-
In Reply To #55
No there isn't. There IS however an option to change the language from English to Japanese.
-

The game's only been out a couple of weeks, so nothing has really had TIME to catch on as "classic."
When Richter and Dracula meet in Rondo and Dracula goes, "Belmont, son of Belmont!" I bust a nut laughing. To me, THAT'S classic!
-
I meant classic as in the original japanese voice. From what I hear the japanese voice tracks for old rondo and sotn were left untouched from their original 1990s releases.
For me an altered version of something can never attain the level of "classic". That term's mostly reserved for very old stuff like cv1 or cv3j in their purest forms.
-

Cool thanks Doctamario, I like to have multiple language options, cuz sometimes the english dubbing is done really bad.
-
In Reply To #59
So the King James Bible is not classic? Only the Dead Sea Scrolls?
What if they decided to release the English version first (as sometimes happens)? Would it then be considered classic?
-
If you rearranged a classic piece such as mozart into heavy metal, would it be classic?
I don't mind english subtitles, just as long as the game's presentation doesn't stray from the original author's concept. And that includes voices.
-

I agree and the drac fight in legend of demon castle is way better and harder than it's Castlevania 3 counterpart, the music in the original version is better too. The story explained in the opening crawl is alot more epic and involves the catholic church searching out the belmonts to combat dracula's increasing territory.
