Long translation short, 20 years of sonic condensed into one game, covering the majority of his games from the genesis to modern era, and uniting both sodes of the gameplay fanbase- the 2D side, and the 3D side.

Friends will be included as cameos and story or some shit too. Namely, Knuckles, Tails and Shadow were named.

And its the Colors people in charge.

My friends, I ask you...

Is your body ready?

I found the old Sonic pretty cute, much better than the faggot modern Sonic. I particulary prefer the game to be totally in 2D, I hope they don't mess up things when we have to play in 3D

Classic Sonic's gameplay is what Sonic 4 should have been.

Hopefully Modern Sonic's gamelay is as good as it was in Colors.

To be honest, Modern Sonic gameplay looks more like Unleashed daytime gameplay. (which is fine by me)

I appreciate Sonic 4 as much as the next guy but....this looks stellar! I mean if this is good then that would be the third GOOD sonic game in a row, meaning that hopefully the dreaded sonic cycle will be broken! I like that they are integrating both the 2D and 3D styles of gameplay, and THANK GOD they are using the sonic unleashed/colors style for the "new sonic" stages, I always found those to be pretty fluid. I especially can't wait to relive Sonic 1 in complete HD glory.

Was.

Sonic has been on an improvement curve ever since Fresh blood was infused into Sonic team. Unleashed wasnt perfect, in fact, it had the worst Sonic gimmick ever, but the Daytime gameplay was very good. Fans liked it.

Then Sonic 4 was announced and released. Not perfect, (far from what it should have been) but Sega actually MADE IT.

Then Sonic Colors was released. It takes the daytime segments of Unleashed, makes boosting less abusable, did away with the "true last story super evil boss that upstages Eggman" and actually had the egghead as the final boss, no strings attached. it was all Eggman from start to finish. The Wisps, while a gimmick, were very optional, (Very few areas actually forced it. If Super Sonic can get through stages just fine, then it wasnt forced) And they were a COOL gimmick. Something swords, guns, vehicles and wolfhog transformations were not. (and it got very favorable reviews too) And now, a 20th anniversary Sonic game is announced that features Not only the Unleashed/Colors gameplay, but Classic sonic. With classic gameplay as well.

The story will involve time travel, but its not like Sonic is a stranger to that. (and I don't mean Sonic 06) friends will appear? from across Sonic's 20 year history? That brings opportunities to bring back forgotten characters like the Chaotix. (And Mighty the Armadillo) So far, they are not playable. Simply as cameos and story elements.

Sonic is coming back. And he is very damn close.

This is pretty damn AWESOME!

I'm a huge sonic fan and I think Sega did the perfect thing by doing a gameplay formula such as this which will include classic gameplay (and sonic) with modern gameplay.

I can hardly wait to posibly revisit classic stages like Starlight Zone or Emerald Coast,or even Casinopolis.

That is assumeing that add these stages ofcourse.

Hopfully Konami can take a note from Sega's actions and pull of something just as epic with Castlevana's upcoming anniversary.

Considering this goes from Classic to modern Sonic, there will be stages from Sonic 1 all the way to modern sonic.

I have a big love/hate relationship with Sonic games. I love the classic Genesis games, and Adventure 1 and 2, and now I really like 4. If Generations plays like 4 and adventure, I'll be happy, but keep the rest of the terrible cast mates to a minimum. Also, where the he'll is Sonic the Hedgehog episode 2?

To be honest, Sonic games haven't been THAT bad on the "terrible" cast mates lately. Unleashed had a few but kept it to a minimum, S4 had Sonic and Robotnik(fuck the name "Eggman", sounds stupid), and Sonic Colors had only Sonic, Tails, Robotnik, and Robotnik's henchmen. Sega's starting to get the idea that we don't NEED most of those pointless characters.

So... Sonic Colors with an even more classic touch AND time travel? I'm sold already. Sonic Colors is a blast(Wii AND DS versions)! This looks like a great followup and tribute.

I think uncool and unimportant characters like Big the Cat,Amy Rose,Cream&Cheese, and Chip should take a backseat for the future Sonic titles.

However I think characters like Knuckles,Shadow, and ofcourse Tales should always make a appearance in some form or another since IMO they are all cool and actually important to the story in some way.

I just do not think she brings anything to the story other then being Sonic's unofficial love interest which is pretty lame.

See, to me Unleashed was one of the ultimate offenders, because Chip was terrible/unfunny, and the Werehog was essentially turning Sonic into a shitty friend himself, which is absolute heresy. Not to mention that I hated the ugly, ugly world people that were designed with inspiration from awful Bible cartoons. I do agree that since then, Sega's become far smarter in that department.

If it were up to me, though, the only remaining friends would be Tails and Knuckles, while the rest would be thrown in a gigantic Egg Meat-Grinder. (I'd exempt the Chaotix guys as I fucking love the 32X game, but even they have been tainted by Heroes.)

Aaaanyway, I'm highly anticipating this game. I loved what I played of the DS Colors, and the Wii version looks goddamn amazing; my main fear is that the Classic Sonic portions will be entirely recycled levels, but the potential of classic themed versions of newer levels like those from the Adventure games sounds way too cool to pass up.

Having to grow up with Sonic the Hedgehog [literally, I was having my 3rd birthday when he came out with his first game~], I am touched by this. Only thing that would make this better is if Sega releases the game on June 23th.

PS: 3D classic Sonic is adorable!~

Sonic Colors was indeed a worthy and awesome Sonic game.

To bad it was only for the Wii. :-[

But now us Xbox360 and PS3 owners get this! ;D

I just hope and pray that the Starlight Zone,Stardust Highway, or the Chemical Plant makes it into this game somehow.

^^^ That's what I hope. I'd love to see Lava Reef, Ice Cap, Starlight, Mystic Cave, and some Sonic CD levels. I wonder if the problem with Sonic CD was that it might've been too much to include the time travel gimick, though as far as this game's concerned, they could just leave that out and give us the normal, present era versions of the levels.

It'd be awesome if they had a Sonic CD level remade, and you started as either Sonic that you chose, and if you play classic Sonic, "future" signs would be present, and if modern Sonic you'd have "past" signs. You could change styles of gameplay by running fast after passing one of these signs! Modern Sonic gets the future version, and classic Sonic gets the past version. It'd be a cool little thing for the level I think.

Colors was the best 3d sonic game EVER, and about time something that could top SA2.
Generations though, my main concern is acts, Colors had 7 acts per stage and plenty of stages, I have very high expectations on Generations to top that...
Right now 2 acts per stage and about 10 stages = 20 levels, Colors has over 60 levels

Played both PC and 3DS versions, really good but not worth the money when you can beat them both within 2 hours.
extra stuff is nice but doesn't amount to anything.

Anyone else played this? anyone?

I have.

Must say it did not meet my expectations. But to be fair my expectations where pretty darn high for this game lol.

Overall it was still a pretty awesome Sonic game and I loved playing through all the new redesigned levels of past.

My few gripes with it are

1.No boss battles at the end of each zone. They really did limit each of the boss battles in a major way by having them only after you beat a certain era which really only gave you 4 boss battles in all (not counting the "special" emerald bosses). That was a terrible move on their part to not have each zone have their own classic boss. After all, this game is centered around nostalgia, so why change up the boss battle style of old?

2.SUPER SONIC IS LAME. Or more like, this Super Sonic is pretty lame lol. The ring consumption is pretty darn ridiculous and if you are wanting to enjoy Super Sonic for the rest of the stage then your out of luck. It pretty much consumes 3 rings per second which really does severely limit the amount of time you can stay in Super. And when you use the boost it makes it even worse! holding down the boost for 5 seconds pretty much consumes 50 rings.  Its nothing like Sonic Colors which gave you the normal Super Sonic consumption AND infinite boost. And don't even get me started on Classic Super Sonic *facepalm*. Classic Super Sonic gains VERY little in the speed department and is basically just a longer version of the invincible Sonic powerup. Sonic Generations Super Sonic was pretty much a complete downgrade in comparison to its Sonic Colors counterpart.

3.Not enough levels. Having only 3 levels per era and only 2 zones for each made the game feel "limited". Alot of people where hoping for atleast 12 stages OR 3 acts per stage. and now it appears Sega has no plans "currently" for DLC stages in the future which relaly does suck.

But other than the things I just mentioned above, This game is trully a awesome Sonic game and I'd highly recommend it to any Sonic fans.

I actually liked how few bosses there were. I like that they were stratified from the levels and made in their own thing. Certainly didn't disrupt the flows of the levels.

Well, there's also how I didn't enjoy most of the boss battles anyway which just made me happy I didn't have to face more. A lot of them just seemed really simple or bland.

The levels weren't as, say, intricate as the originals, but I think it's fine. The one thing they improved over the classics was that there was a stronger sense of direction, and there weren't as many springs that just inhibited movement. I really wish it were longer and had more levels though.

Post by: Flame on January 09, 2012, 05:10:06 PM
I wish there was a bit more variety. I love all those stages they chose, but Its all city stages and forest/seaside stages. I am disappoint by the lack of Icecap zone. :<

But again, that was because there were so few levels. I did like the rival battles. Metal Sonic is particularly cool.

Its interesting that Sega says Generations Perfect Chaos is how they originally wanted him to look but couldnt because of graphical limitations.
