I can understand he is upset about losing his wife but then again Leon lost his beloved too but you don't see him turning his back on God, there had to be something more to it...

Because he was out, fighting for God, and he felt betrayed that God didn't protect his loved one.
I guess Leon was more rational and figured out that people are going to die anyway, whether you devote your life to God or not, while Mathias overreacted.
That's really all there is to it.

Mathias was a crusader fighting in the name of God. He saw the death of Elizabetha as an act of betrayal by God. Because of this, he chose to defy God by granting himself eternal life.
As for Leon, I guess he just saw things differently than Mathias. He took an oath to kill that which took Sara's life rather than blame God for it.
2 men. 2 different perspectives. I suppose there can be more to it than that, but this is pretty much all we have to go by. ;)

I have the first four volumes of the first season. They're all in Japanese though, and I really don't wanna translate it. A friend of mine said he'd do it. If I payed him. >.>
Plus the file's about 1.68GB so I don't feel like uploading it either. Not with my 448MB of RAM. That'd kill me. o.o

Well, I'll try to pay him somewhat to translate the pages that look the most important, or some other stuff. The drawings are nice, I'll tell you that much. Much better than Judgment (even though secretly, I kinda liked a few of those designs).

uhm... dunno it certainly made more sense on coppola's dracula, with all the "your beloved have committed suicide so she will burn in hell for an eternity" and all.
still, for how i understood the plot. it's not exactly mathias turning evil.. or more evil of what he already was. maybe he never give much consideration at the price to pay to fulfill one objectives. therefore using sahra to make leon kill walter wasn't such an unnatural thing for him to do, he just never had the need to do it before.
and he was angry at god for forcing humans to endure the bitter taste of mortality, such as his beloved elizabetha did, so he turned into a vampire as a way of saying Fu** you god, i'm out of that rule.
there isn't any record that he used his power for greater generic evil (just generic heresy) until Lisa was killed.... by humans, so i guess its kinda understandable?
also before lisa death, there was various not so evil people who cared for Drac, such as Lisa, Alucard, uhmm.. this guy Hector.. etc.

Nope. My friend downloaded it onto his phone while he was in Japan and sent me the file. I then took it and converted it into .PNG files (cuz I hate every other file). Sadly, they're insanely high quality (1.68GB like I said before). My computer won't be able to handle an upload of that size.
I'm sure you can get it SOMEWHERE. I mean, I'm sure someone in Japan loaded the files onto the interwebs.

He really only technically became "evil" once he started his war on Humanity.
Before that he was pretty much just opposed to God, but had no business with anyone other than himself and his family. I mena hey, he married a Human woman while he was a Vampire right? And I mean, SHE obviously saw something in him to marry him.

I can try to find a way to downgrade the quality. But my hard drive has like, 1GB of free space on it. It's a shared computer and the other twat waffles using it refuse to delete anything. I only have 448MB of RAM, so uploading the full file anywhere will crash my computer.

Like Flame said, this thing is impossible to find. If we could actually get ahold of a copy, it would be like pure gold lol.

Oh man, I remember Successor me helping find a guy who owned this thing and could translate it, but eventually he just disappeared after he had promised to do it no less. He didn't even bother to upload the scans so I could find somebody else to do the translation.
But yes, sending it to somebody else would really help. I know the manga has several effects like sound effects, and vibration but sadly you kind off miss out on that if you read it on a computer. Oh well.

Well, he didn't necessarily "disappear". He's still around and I still talk to him. He just basically flaked and decided not to do it, I guess *shrug*
Also, he didn't upload the scans because he wasn't aware how to transfer them from his phone to his PC. And I don't really know how to do that, either, and it's totally impractical for me to find out how because I don't have his phone with the scans to fiddle with. Alas, we end up with nothing... but, I imagine that guy knows how the story goes, but he didn't seem to care that much.

Commenting on the original question...
As others have said, Mathias became "evil" when God "ignored" all he had done in His service during the Crusade and let Elizabetha die. Doing it by becoming a vampire and taking control of Death was in effect the biggest "F-U" he was able to come up with.
By becoming a vampire, he declared that he would no longer be held to natural laws, such as those that took his wife from him.
However, it is arguable as to how "Evil" Mathias was at this point and for the next 2-3 hundred years. He was responsible for Leon's suffering, but he could justify the purpose of it and offer immortality to Leon as compensation for his loss. Mathias didn't become utterly evil until human's killed Alucard's mother a few centuries after he originally became a vampire. That second loss is what sent him over the deep end.
However, while I understand why the loss of his wives did what they did, his reactions are rather extreme.
He cuts off his nose to spite his face in becoming a vampire over Elizabetha's death. He loses his wife so he's going to make his best friend suffer the way he has and become a creature that preys on the innocent in order to get back at God? Pardon? Then he hides for a few hundred years so Leon's family doesn't track him down over some little grudge they've built up, before deciding to set up a small kingdom and going mad when he loses another wife.
I find Mathias' story interesting, but I'm not a fan for his reason for his original change simply because it then leaves a centuries long gap where he isn't being actively "evil" since his war is with God, not man. I'm just downloading Resurrection now, so I don't feel I can make a full comparision between Mathias and Gabriel just yet, but Gabriel seems far more sympathetic by the end of Reverie than Mathias ever is.

Yeah, 1GB thumb-drives are like, five bucks where I live, 2GB's costing about a few bucks more. So it's not really a question of money. But right now it's more of a question of time (got lots to do here at home, plus school), and actual transportation (I don't own a car, nor a license).
Plus I finally got into the folder without my computer crashing and remembered they're all separated into frames. >.< I'll repiece them (I arranged them by page) and somehow load it up online.

Mathias is kind of immature. Instead of grieving and moving on, he lashes out at those who wronged him. Kind of childish, don't you think? Look at Leon. Yes, he slaughtered Walter and vowed that he and his family would hunt Mathias, but he apparently moved on with his life. The fact is that both Leon and Mathias lost people they loved, but only one of them lost his humanity. If Mathias was a "real" man, he would have grieved and then moved on. I'm not saying that losing someone you love isn't painful, but you move on. Mathias didn't. At least, not until he met Lisa and then he went ape shit when she died.
Instead of deciding to eliminate all humans, he should have been there for Alucard and after grieving, move on. There's not reason a vampire can't like a relatively peaceful life. If he needs blood, he could simply go after criminals and them kill them when he finishes feeding. Doing that would be a win-win: he would be able to feed and at the same time, rid the area of a criminal.

I agree about the drinking criminals' blood thing. Or he can be like Twilight vampires and drink animal blood. :P

It's best to just leave them alone. :lmao: Though I've always wondered what Dracula's motivation was after SOTN: Alucard told him what Lisa said and he seemed remorseful and sorry as he died. So what's his deal after that?

Probably pissed off that he's getting second rate hunters from then till 1999. No Belmonts. That's got to hurt your pride.

And the third one is even capable of turning his reincarnation evil. When he is by all rights a completely different person.

The only way I can explain that is that it's part of his curse; his mind is kind of "reset" at every resurrection.
Either that or there have been multiple Draculas.
