I'm kinda stuck... In Legends. I can't quite get up on these steps here.
I tried using the ledge behind Sonia. But she seems to be a pixel short when she jumps... So... is there a trick to jumping up here?
-
You have to jump on the left ledge.
Sonia's the only character in the GB CV's that has controlled Jumps. So you can jump straight up and aim left as you jump. You should clear it just like how you cleared however it is you got up there in the first place from the left.
-
See, that's the thing. I tried both of these:
A) Using the left ledge to jump onto the steps.
B) Standing in front of the steps, jumping and then holding right to jump up.
I can't quite seem to get up there no matter what I do. There's a candle over there, which I assume is a precious piece of chicken, which would help if you look at my health in the screenshot.

Could you clarify what you mean here? I'm not getting it. :\

Sorry, I thought you were having trouble getting out of the pit you took in the screencap.
Ok, so...You're trying to reach the floating bricks from the left block platform and are not making the jump?
You have to have Sonia walk all the way to the tippy-tip of the right ledge of the left block structure. It's a tricky jump. You know how in CV1 Simon 'can' jump three blocks if you carefully position him at the very tip of a ledge? This is like that.

Ooooooh, so it's like Christopher in Adventure with his stupid pixel-perfect jumps? What jerks KCEN were...
Well, during this whole topic post, I just gave up on it and continued going. That stupid ass bat that normally goes underneath the right ledge keeps respawning and almost killed me. I'll give the jump a go again next time I play (I'm playing Light Mode right now, then I'll give Standard Mode a playthrough).
-
Pffft, we need more pixel-perfect jumps (but only to reach the very best of treasures; doing it just for the regular stuff would be evil and NES-Hacks-like).
-
You just lack the skillz, son.
Playas like Jorge and I have been at it since the '80s, so most of those tricky jumps in the classics aren't that tricky to us anymore :p #practicemakesperfect

That man speaks volumes of truth.

I call it stupid cuz I suck at ClassicVanias. XD
But I vowed that if I ever got around to making a homebrew (I lack real coding skills), I'd do my best to make jumps pixel perfect. In fact, almost everything pixel perfect, cuz that's called realism. :P
But thank you for your help anyway. ^.^ I'm at the final stage now. The Alucard boss fight wasn't very hard at all, but he does have a cool sprite in this game. And this game probably has one of the coolest renditions of Death. :D

Realism: Deliberately placed gaps that are wide enough that they require you have almost no footing to jump.
That reminds me that I only played Legends for 10 minutes, like 5+ years ago. Oops.

Here's another tip for just such a scenario. Sonia does have the ability to jump through certain block placements. But only ones that are of 8 pixels in height. She cannot jump through a double block placement.

Well, she can't reach this one. :\

I'll add in another tip: Activate burning mode. Press up + attack to execute if you're still having trouble figuring it out. This will not only make you move faster but will allow you to jump further. I'm sure by now you already know this, but... I try :)

No, I did not know how to activate it. I did it by accident once, though. Thank you for this information.
Isn't Up + Attack how you use Soul Powers, though?
-
Sorry, my mistake. Hold UP and press attack and jump simultaneously. Or it could be just pressing the attack and jump buttons simultaneously... Try the above.

Hmm... That helps a lot. I didn't know how to use it the whole way through the game. I don't have a manual and didn't feel like loading up an FAQ online.
But yeah, Legends is easily one of my favorite CVs now, regardless of how flawed it is.
