I just thought I'd spread the news. Personally, it's my least favorite of the Gameboy Castlevania titles, but I'm still buying it. It's only $2.99, so it won't exactly set you back or anything.
-
I already bought it for 3DS like two months ago, and it was very fun. It's kind of a shame it's only at the last two stages where it's start to get good. I also enjoy how well composed the music track from the fourth stage is, and the rest of the music is fairly enjoyable, too.
-
Yeah, I just hope they release the sequel. That one, on the other hand, is my favorite of the Gameboy Castlevania titles. It's got a great soundtrack, Christopher actually walks at a decent speed, the stages are all really cool, and there are stage select(to a point) and password features.
I like this one too, but the sequel is just so good!

This is a solid game that takes strategic thinking in practically every movement you make when faced with enemies or traps. The third stage is one of the best stages from any Castlevania game I've ever played. There's some incredibly innovative level design going on there. The only tracks from the music I don't care for are the second stage theme and the boss theme. Every other key music piece is exceptionally well done, in my opinion.
While this game isn't as good as Belmont's Revenge, in some ways, it's better thought out than that game, at least from a certain perspective. However, some people don't see that virtue of it, likely due to lack of patience. It's surprising how much cunning and strategy getting past simple enemies and other obstacles can take.
-
The game is horrible and suffers from outright bad engine, which causes a lot of slowdown and horrible controls. While the level design is good, it is hard to appreciate it. Overall the game could have been good, if engine and controls were fixed, but as of now - it's one of the worst titles in the classic lineup of the series.
You will need a lot of strategy in this game, but only because its horribly coded. Belmont's Revenge on contrary - is an examplary work of how you use good ideas from a horrible title and make an awesome game.
-
I'm with Sumac on this one. Games should not be a challenge due to stiff, unresponsive controls. Battletoads and Double Dragon are hard games for the right reasons, while stuff like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is hard for its ass-tastic controls.
-
Woo! Gonna pick this up ASAP. The sequel better follow.
Lotsa other good stuff in the eShop today. Liberation Maiden is out, and Mutant Mudds has 20 new levels! ;D

If I wasn't jobless at the moment and running close on bills I'd pick up some of these E-shop games :(

Sounds like me.....i was planning on getting a 3DS XL, but the stop me at job, so now i can't buy it, because i have other more important things to take care of.
-
I passed on the 3DS XL since I have a CPP and it won't fit on the 3DS XL. I have heard they want to build a CPP that WILL fit the 3DS XL but something tells me they won't just take a simple trade-in.
-
Trade in the CPP for an XL CPP, or 3DS for an XL? If the latter, GameStop was doing a promotional deal where you trade a 3DS for $100 off an XL. They even let me buy the XL, take it home, transfer all my data, and bring the cleaned 3DS in for a retroactive $100 trade-in. And I'm glad I did it, 'cos using the option to view GB games in their native res makes them so much more appealing on the XL because the game screen is almost the exact same size as the original Game Boy. This is ideal for me because GB Virtual Console games look too blurry when full screen, but the game image was too small when playing native res on the old 3DS.
The 3D effect also works better on the larger screen, I find. Can't wait for Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. :) One of my favorite games ever finally gets a sequel.
-
I'd still have to pay money for the switch, which isn't happening. Plus, the XL doesn't seem like it will fit in my pocket :(

Yep, in order of quality the GB games go Belmont's Revenge > Castlevania Legends >>>>>> Castlevania The Adventure
It's a shame really, "Adventure" has possibly the most under-appreciated theme in the whole franchise (Battle of the Holy) and a lot of memorable set pieces. But the programmers just way overestimated what the Gameboy was capable of. As a result the game is an almost unplayable, laggy and unresponsive mess. Far and away the worst Classicvania imo, even though it may be the first one I ever played. Not helping matters is the fact that this game doesn't have a password system or even infinite continues. Though I'll wager the digital re-release has added a save feature to make it more palatable to modern audiences.

Adventure over Legends, in my opinion. I can't even really think of any good ideas Legends had... maybe mini-boss fights? Other than that, I thought the over-bloated stages really brought the game down. The stages are very long, and their design isn't near inspiring enough to justify their great length. So I guess the main culprit to me is just really uninspired design. The enemy regeneration can be a pain, too. Like the other two GB games it has a nice soundtrack, though.

Nailed it. The magic you get from bosses is an interesting idea, except the game is linear besides Stage 5, so it doesn't matter much at all. The Burn Power was pretty OP too. Legends could really use a ReBirth style upgrade.
CVA is very bare bones and slow, but I really dig it for some reason.

Just couldn't disagree more. Legends has a far better story with a much more interesting and unique protagonist, the gameplay is sometimes bland but it's totally functional and feels like Castlevania. All I see when I look at Adventure's gameplay is crippled controls that barely function wrapped in a horrible, laggy mess of unfair challenge where your greatest enemy isn't Dracula, but a slow and unresponsive Christopher.
But to each their own of course. "De gustibus non est disputandum"
Castlevania The Adventure, has infinite continues.
Are you sure? It's been a while since I've played the game but according to Mr. P's Castlevania Realm it doesn't, someone should let him know so he can correct that if it does.
-
Trust me, it was the first Castlevania i have played and i can assure you about that.
-
I got this bad boy boxed and mint from a friend a couple years ago, may pull it out and play it sometime on my GBA.
It's not great, but damn it, I like it. I tend to like some other games folks don't like (though shit like Jeckyl and Hyde I'd not spend a penny on).

Finished this bastard after 22 years! ;D
