I think there was some discussion on this before, but I can't find the thread. Most of us know that Hideki Kamiya, director of the original Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, lists his all-time favorite game as Castlevania on NES. And both DMC and Bayonetta show clear parallels to the structure of classic CV titles. Some would even say that the first DMC was a better model for a 3D Castlevania than LoI or CoD. It had a Metroidvania-esque layout and a proper atmosphere, for starters, but is Platinum really the right studio for the job?
Now that Platinum is connected to the Metal Gear franchise and share the same relationship that MercurySteam has with Kojima Productions, it really isn't out of the question. With the end of Lords of Shadow coming in late 2013 (supposedly), how likely is it that KONAMI will allow Platinum to continue MS's action-heavy 3D style? MercurySteam and Platinum definitely exhibit similar design philosophies, but then again, not every CV fan is crazy about LoS in the first place.
Of course, I have a slightly different idea for what KONAMI should do next (www.change.org/petitions/castlevania-anthologies (http://www.change.org/petitions/castlevania-anthologies)), but that's only part of a much larger puzzle moving forward. What do you think?

I'd be game for it. It would be really cool to see what Platinum Games could do with Castlevania. All his games impress me. Even if I don't like the story to the game, I'm sure it would be a blast to play through from a gameplay perspective.
-
I'd be up for it so long as the did only one game to see whether or not we fans approve of it or not. But personally I'm far more impressed with WayForward.
-
I love Hideki Kamiya's games, but I have mixed feelings about Revengeance. I don't know it just looks incredibly...stupid. It looks like Bayonetta, without the humour and Bayonetta's charisma. But overall I'm pretty sure the gameplay will be good. I just wasn't expecting Metal Gear to go this route.
A CV game handled by Platinum games could be interesting, if they don't try to make another DMC clone, and even if they do it will still be more enjoyable than LoS, at least for me.

As much as I love Platinum Games (GO GET ANARCHY REIGNS RIGHT NOW, 30 BUCKS, NO EXCUSES!!!), I don't think they're style would fit with Castlevania imo. They are known for their batshit crazy, stylish, fast paced gameplay, whereas Castlevania is mostly the opposite of that. Granted seeing Alucard go all Fist of the North Star on Dracula's face would be pretty cool but would that be Castlevania?
If anything, they will be well suited for a Kid Dracula remake or dare I say Castlevania Judgement 2.
Seriously, g-go get Anarchy Reigns.

Very interesting idea. I don't mind Judgment that much as it is, but a Platinum-developed Judgment 2 that plays like Anarchy Reigns could be awesome (and probably much closer to what KONAMI had envisioned for the first one).

All that is needed
DMC style Puzzles and Design -- but NOT in missions
Platforming that isn't guided climbing
Full Utilization of the whip allowing Tripping, disarming, ect.
fill those and platinum can have the franchise to play with
-
when were dmc's puzzles ever good
it just seemed to be mostly hamstrung mechanics placed in situations that did nothing to improve the pacing like they wanted them to
-
This might go the DMC route if the developers are lazy.
-
God yes. Anything is better than David Cocks at this point.

I think Platinum games would make an interesting take on the franchise, definitely leaning toward a more action heavy style. I think if they teamed up with IGA, Ayami Kojima, Michiru Yamane and Lord and Saviour Hideo Kojima we could have a title that feels proper, is fun to play with great atmosphere and perhaps even an interesting story. :p
Though I still think KojiPro proper should tackle a CV title, make it a sneaking/infiltration operation during the Demon Castle Wars with non-Belmont characters (because at this point I don't think anyone can do Julius justice, period.) telling the story of the events that occur from their perspective, as the little guys. I'm tellin' you peepz it would be awesome!

Zone of Enders, Solar Boy Django, Snatcher, all great games from Kojima without the forced reminder of MGS.
I think if that team up were to happen, they should collaberate to do things they weren't able to do by themselves.

Are you saying that The Demon Castle Wars could allow players to create their own character, while Julius and others are NPCs? If so, that could also allow for [optional] cooperative multiplayer on top of a choice-driven solo campaign.

For the team up, I imagine that H.Kojima and IGA would primarily work on story. IGA has the most steeped knowledge of the underpinings of the CV universe and has created stories most of us enjoy. His games get a little cyclical and I think this is where H.Kojima comes in to help push the narrative beyond IGA traditional style. At the same time, IGA helps keep H.Kojima in check and lore friendly.
They both also have great sense in gameplay and how to make games fun, as does Platinum games. I think they bring a lot to the table and could work together to make something truly memorable, IGA with great castle layouts, quest progressions, Platinum with fun combat and H.Kojima to sprinkle a little insanity here and there or bring up interesting new mechanics (Ala Raiden's "CHOP ALL THE THINGS" mechanic) for the whips and other combat related goodies.
Yamane and A.Kojima are there for artistic direction and music direction, respectively. Their work is generally respected in the community and I think would help the title feel more CV-like.
Will it happen? Probably not, will egos get bruised and no work get done? Probably, if it were to happen. But a fan can fantasize...right?

You know, I didn't think about the self created characters (though Julius and crew as NPCs were a given...I think?), and thus adding in an optional cooperative MP mode sounds pretty sweet! Yeah, I'd totally buy that game. ;D

Pretty much agree with this. I have a hard time imagining a CV game with the typical Platinum flash thrown in. I like Platinum for what they do, but their appeal to me is far removed from what I want from a Castlevania game.

I can see this for a multiplayer gimmick. But story-wise Julius is the hero whom defeats Dracula from the last time.

Nay. Lords of Shadow is already halfway to Platinum with all the combos and power-ups. If you removed all platforming and sped up the combat, you'd be even closer to Platinum. If anything, Castlevania in 3D needs to SLOW DOWN and get back to strategic action-platforming. Really, Castlevania 64 is the more the logical future direction.

I have to agree with this. I have no doubts that if Platinum made the game it would be fun. But I don't know if it would be Castlevania.
Honestly, I would love a new game like the 64 ones. I always see people say they don't feel like Castlevania, but I still think they're the best 3D translation of the series thus far (Perhaps not the best games, but the best 2D->3D conversion). The fact that developers are now capable of making 3rd person camera views that aren't complete crap should really help out, too.

I'd be fine with Platinum making entries in pretty much any game series I like; as long as Konami has joined the "We don't develop games internally anymore" fad they might as well farm the series out to a good company. I'm sure they'd have the wherewithal not to make it completely batshit insane like Bayonetta. Also a Masami Ueda composed Castlevania OST would be twelve eargasms at once.
Even more than Castlevania I want them to make Contra though. There can be a good 3D version, dammit.
