Title: Future Castlevania Games
Post by: jmodlin210 on March 09, 2013, 01:24:32 AM
After Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 gets released this year, would they do Mirror of Fate 2 and Castlevania Lords of Shadow 3? Would they do different Castlevania games to tell new and different stories? Which new Castlevania games will be released after Lords of Shadow 2 gets released?

LoS story will end in LoS2. So no MoF2 or LoS3 will be made, unless Konami change his mind.

Best bets from what is being rumoured on the web is that they will give Castlevania to Platinum (Bayonetta) or WayForward (Bloodrayne: Betrayal).
It sounds good to me, though I'd prefer they return the future games to Japan.

I enjoyed MoF a lot, and if I end up loving LoS2 as well I'll feel extremely conflicted about wanting them to make any more LoS games. From a creator's stand point I feel like I wouldn't want to see the story magically continue on after it's supposed climax, but I'm not Dave Cox or Konami, so really it's all up to them.

Dave Cox said there won't be anymore games for the LOS timeline.
Personally, I would like to see what other developers have to offer for the Castlevania franchise.
I believe the series needs a new fresh start after a few years.

Of course, everything depends on Konami.

Fresh start, or it could just return to what it was, be it another pure MetroidVania or another pure ClassicVania.
I wouldn't object if they make an all-new downloadable 6 stages linear Castlevania in the vein of Adventure: Rebirth.
Of course, my heart is with new MetroidVania games, but I'd love to see new ClassicVanias also.

I wouldn't mind a well done reboot, but I don't like that nowadays everything is being rebooted, in games, in movies...
I personally like continuity.

Just insert new games in the main timeline, there's planty of space and chances, and I wouldn't have a problem with any of them...

Some Belmont killing another villains while Dracula is still dead, that could be the theme of many games. For example, what Simon did between both times he defeated Dracula...
Another idea could be the one they used with Belmont's Revenge... Dracula appeared dead but he escaped so he must be re-defeated...
Another hero collecting Dracula relics...
The story of the whip given by the Belmont family to the Morris family...
Another game like Dawn of Sorrow, just after it...
The 1999 game...
Or what if Dracula's curse still existed after CVIII and CoD?

Or they can just continue the other timelines...

Legends timeline, N64 games timeline, or just make classic platforming or exploration games continuing timelines from radio dramas, Pachislot games, Order of Shadows, time travel or Grimoire timeline, or whatever.

There's PLENTY of possibilities for Konami when they decide to do it!

I love the Sorrow games. If I would make a wish I want them expand Soma's story and I would really need the 1999 battle game.
Title: Re: Future Castlevania Games
Post by: Lelygax on March 09, 2013, 07:55:26 AM
They could simply turn that Sorrow Novel in a game, the plot is that Olrox is trying to become the new Dark Lord, Death tries to convince Soma, but since Death fails, it respects Soma and goes away. A member started to translate this novel but stopped, a shame since even a Danasty descendant appears.

It sounds awesome, I really wish that someday we can get it as the story of a game continuing the Sorrow sub-saga.

Platinum
Wayforward
FromSoftware

It'd be interesting to see a Castlevania game from either of those three. They'd be radically different from each other too.

I'd love to see them iron out some issues I have with the old canon.  I'd also like it if they alternated between making classicvanias and metroidvanias, which would make more people happy, I think.

1999 game is obviously needed... There's also potential for a game between Lament of Innocence and Castlevania 3, or even another game with Shanoa, or a post-DoS game.  Also, ever since the DXC for the PSP, I've been craving polished versions of the older games, especially Simon's Quest which I think could be brilliant if only it was remade.  That would have me dancing on the ceiling.  I think that polished re-releases would allow for smoothing out of the overall plot.  Probably wishful thinking, but that's what I want, so...

Whatever they do, I want the old games to be respected.

Yes, that's the first thing they have to think. RESPECT THE LEGACY. All of it, from Castlevania for the NES to Order of Eclessia.
I'd die from happiness if they make another game with Shanoa, sequel to Order of Eclessia.

More remakes would be really nice too, but they should be side projects, while they are focusing on the "main game", like they did precisely with DXC. They released it between the NDS games.
But yes, I'd like it a lot.

Simon's Quest has been remade by Michmede in Dracula's Shadow, with a very free interpretation. He added story, levels, soundtrack...
But I consider it a masterpiece.

And the proper Simon's Quest has been recently remade for PC, I don't remember where I got it, I think someone posted the link about 2 months ago.
It's harder than the original version.

Platinum
Wayforward
FromSoftware

It'd be interesting to see a Castlevania game from either of those three. They'd be radically different from each other too.

FromSoftware crafted some very good looking games, especially Demon's Souls.
Enchanted Arms was nice too.
A fusion of those two styles could make a nice 3D anime-inspired (but not childish) Castlevania.

And I already stated numerous times my support for WayForward and Platinum if they can't make it happen that Konami Japan makes future CVs.

I just hope that, being this forum so important, someone from Konami reads it.
We are A LOT of people that want MetroidVanias and ClassicVanias to make their glorious return.
Title: Re: Future Castlevania Games
Post by: shelverton. on March 09, 2013, 10:51:03 AM
Above all, From Software proved with Dark Souls that they can make an interconnected 3D world with a layout that would work brilliantly in a 3D Castlevania. Imagine if they made Dracula's castle like that. Huge, gothic, with tall towers, deep catacombs, ballrooms, chapels, graveyards and everything in between. I was completely blown away by the level design in Dark Souls, and how everything is connected. And the atmosphere is dark and scary.

I'm not saying they should make a Castlevania that plays exactly like it, but the foundation for something extraordinary is definitely there.

It sure is. And another good thing about them is that they are japanese.
I hadn't thought about them until now, but they look as a very good option for Castlevania.
As good as Platinum and WayForward. I'll have them in mind from now on when thinking about future possibilities!

#1 - don´t live in dreams the first game that the konami will do with the original timeline with a great chance,is a remake of the first game with outstanding graphic´s (and if they bought back yamada or give it to a japanese studio, with a great Gameplay).  99% of games enterprises only look to the number of sold´s that the game will have, not to the game itself (and yes,Konami is in the way)

#2 - it´s only restructured, CV2 is one of the most precious gens, but it need to be faceted. i never understood why IGA never touched it.SAD.

#3 - it´s hard to think that the konami supervisors  will pay the astounding amount of money that these studios request to make a game that his sell´s graphic decreased over the years. we need to be more realistic.

Keep the franchise in the west, find another capable developer and continue the LOS timeline (I'm pretty sure that they are not going to close everything with LOS2). If they feel like making the games in Japan, that's ok, but don't let IGA touch them, fresh blood, no matter if it's people from the west or the east.

I'd most like something tied to the original canon, since I'm invested in the storyline expanding, but what's most important to me is that they continue making Castlevania games.  Keep them coming!

THQ and Vigil games are dead, with nobody having bought Vigil, and all of it's staff having been laid off, but let's talk what if here- if THQ/Vigil, were to make a CV game? Im basing this off of Darksiders. They also made an interconnected map. Most everything is accessible by foot. and if not, by warp point.

Of course, it is hack n slash at it's core, and has orchestrated music, so most of the CVD would just designate it a GoW ripoff. (protip: it's not- it's a Zelda ripoff)

I'd life WayForward to try too, but I prefer Konami Japan to take it again.
Platinum and FromSoftware are good options.

Darksiders could be turned into something more Castlevania, but it would need CV-ish music and the usual inventory to equip items, weapons, armors, spells, and a shop.
And blue map completion, like in CoD and LoI.
Or go full platforming like LoD.

I didn't dislike Darksiders, but I found the "platforming" aspects to be too "modern".

For 3D:

From Software
Retro Studios (even though this would make the game Nintendo exclusive, which sucks)
Platinum Software
Konami

For 2D:

Konami
WayForward
Retro Studios

What about Harmony of Despair 2.... Make it true Metroidvania style... run rampant in each level until u meet another Vamp Hunter.... throw Gabe in the Mix and u can have a iga/cox party of sorts. Have Samus as an unlockable character like Getsu and for fanfare make challenge modes like racing or whip swinging or see who could do the most Damage per Second. I think the replay value would be tremendous imo!
*edit and let Epic have it..

People hating lords of shadows is because they don't understand what it is Spain and the legacy of history and the medieval, we have the culture we know what is a castle and the mitology of vampires and terror things, that is the reason, that because lords of shadows trilogy is the best castlevania in the history.

Spain wasn't the only country to go through the medieval period. All of Europe was under the grip of said dark ages. Also Spain isn't the only country with castles, history, legacy, vampires, etc. All of Europe had that. All of it. And need I remind you that Castlevania started in Japan and was a collection of classic American western horror elements with the classic Count Dracula (Who's Romanian/Transylvanian not Spanish) at the head of the monster pack. Cox and his team have brought about their own verison of Castlevania which is obviously not for everyone. And in my opinion that is due to the cause that the core of what made Castlevania, castlevania, is just not there. I gave the game a chance, in fact more then what I was willing to give it. But in the end I was disappointed. The LoS series is not THE future as you want everyone to believe. It's just another story and that story is now finished. There will be other  Castlevania games that will hopefully be better executed in the future. I personally see LoS as a steep learning curve for those who want to tackle Castlevania next. Hopfully they won't make the same mistakes or disappoint the fans with false promises. Cox made that mistake.

Cox was forced to make that mistake.
remenber  That the original plan of the studio was to make a remake of Castlevania/SCIV.
with MoF he atleast recognized indirectly that he made a mistake returning a little of the MTDV game style.
i see LoS as a different game that only have the title Castlevania to  gain fame or call attention and well, this had not worked as the konami supervisors was thinking.
exposing my humble opinion, i think that with LoS 2 Cox will achieve redemption to the LoS Game.but, well i can be wrong.

Yes, because Dracula was Spanish, Transylvania is located in the heart of Spain, mythology of vampires, monsters and such ORIGINATED in Spain and they even speak like Spaniards with their thick Scottish accents in the LoS games.

Actually, Spain has provided us with a lot of great stuff lately these years. Movies like Pan's Labyrinth, The sea inside, Open your eyes, or the co-productions by Del Toro like Mama or Don't be afraid of the dark. Good music also. Anyone knows Dark Moor?
And it's a beautiful country. But there's as well annoying people as cool people living in every country I know.
