I thought Id ask you guys about some awesome RPG games I might have missed over the years. System doesnt matter (cept ps3 and 360 as I dont have those)
So whats some good (and I mean VERY good) RPGs I might have missed. This list doesnt need to include ANY Final Fantasy game or Chrono Trigger as thats usually the first things out of someones hole when RPG is mentioned.
-
Xenogears, it will probably never ever be beaten. The only way it may is Xenogears remake with the same ambiance and better graphics and totally awesome VA as well as many other "good to great" addition, and a totally non sucky disc 2.
-
Lost Odyssey just came out last week. Best RPG I've played in a very, very long time. X360 game.
-
He doesn't have a 360.
-
Vandal Hearts 2
Vandal Hearts 1
FF8
FFtactics
Legend of Dragoon
Baten Kaitos
Baten Kaitos Origins
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Vagrant Story
Tactics Ogre the Knight of Lodis
Front Mission 3
...all I can think of right now.
VH2 is my all time favorite, but it is a tactical so you may not like it. (Not FE style. It is truely tactical so if you don't think that way, don't bother trying it.)

Add in Vanguard Bandits, totally awesome game. a bit of a lame story, but if you get the 3rd path in the game, its got at least one hilarious scene. Its also pretty fun, if you like strategy games.
-
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Chrono Trigger or FF6.

Maybe thats because I said in the very first post NOT to mention it or any FF games...
-
an oldie but still a good one: NOX
-
Adding to the list;
Suikoden I and II (and to an extent III and V). IV is terrible though.
Wild Arms (the only one I liked best was the original).
Parasite Eve (first one only).
Digital Devil Saga I and II.
Persona I and II.
Xenosaga I, II and III.
-
Yea, the 2 Suikodens, those are ones Im surprised no one mentioned. They did own a great deal. Almost as good as Xenogears and FFT in my eyes.
-
Fallout and Fallout 2 are two awesome rpgs of the post nuclear type.
-
Final Fantasy sucks. The best RPG ever made is Seiken Densetsu 2
-
If its a strategy type rpg like FFT I want no part of it. Thats what Suikoden is right?
Also what was that 2d psx game I think it was made by square that had lots of chars and you played a chapter with them then changed chars and eventually it all came to the same story. I remember it but cant recall the name.
-
Suikoden 2 has strategy gameplay in it, but 1.... not so much.

The first Wild Arms is the same as well. You play as three separate characters at the start and they all come together. As for Suikoden, they aren't strategy games (unless you're referring specifically to Suikoden Tactics, but that's its own separate game). The Suikoden series are classic turn-based RPGs.

I'm still surprised.

Because he asks for it not to be mentioned, and its not mentioned?

You have to remember that Suikoden 2 (maybe 3/5 too) has strategy in it. When you go to war.

Final Fantasy pisses me off...

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. Hands down my favourite game. And since you're into Castlevania there a good chance you might enjoy the setting too.
However, it's more of an action-rpg (i.e. not turnbased FF stuff).

This might be true.... if it didn't have so many bugs in it that made it a chore to play at times.

That's why people make those community patches. The game is pretty much bug free now. I was playing it last night, and just got done with the medical clinic bit.
-
Yeah Ive played Vampire. Very nice game. I didnt know wtf I was doin tho so I kinda fucked up my char and needed to start over and just kinda never played it again.
-
Yeah, if you raise your character the wrong way, the game can get very difficult. It's still possible to win, though.
-
I can't really say I've had any major problems with bugs in the game with the latest official patch, and I've been through it several times, and I've yet to try any of the extensive community patches.
Anyways, I have to admitt that guns in this game, are just really inferior, so you should'nt really solely on them, but if you buff up your melee or bloodline powers you should be alright.

Super Mario RPG.
