Title: Don't say 1999: What's your dream Castlevania project?
Post by: Lumi Kløvstad on January 14, 2016, 05:19:11 AM
I was listening to Jorge's remixes on Youtube (specifically "Praying Hands" (https://youtu.be/r_Jz_bOb44E) which is one of Castlevania's finest tunes) just now, and it got me thinking of how amazing a full 3D remake of Belmont's Revenge would be if done right.

A retuned and fully updated remake of Castlevania 64 and Legacy of Darkness would be amazing as well, but my absolute dream project would unquestionably be a properly finished version of Castlevania: Resurrection, with maybe a bonus ReBirth style remake of Legends on the side.

I've always thought that the non-canon Castlevanias could be easily linked together into their own separate timeline too, and that they'd be a perfect direction for Castlevania to move back into for a reboot: still dark, still gothic, but with a pronounced and campy silliness about them (the same games that had the much laughed at Motorcycle Skeletons also had Actrise as a villain, and she was as evil and sinister a villain as the series has ever seen). I suppose that's why I keep holding on to some vain hope that we'll see more from those entries, as they are absolutely what Castlevania is to me.

But what is your dream Castlevania project? Figure, if you knew for a fact you were going to get one more, and ONLY one more, game in the franchise... what would it be?

I'm really hoping that's just a tasteless joke.

Super Castlevania 5.

The idea of 1999 has never really excited me.

@Chern Lulz :D

@Archer Check my sig re: timelines

I actually would prefer now that they never tried to make '99, it would NEVER live up to the hype and would end badly. It's best left as an enigma.

I would opt for a 3rd Sorrow Game (wrote a plot/ some dialogue off the back of someone's existing fanfic in a previous thread as to how shit could go down.) Basically it would end with
(click to show/hide)
I would call it "Castlevania: Prophecy of Sorrow".

Souls/Bloodborne-style game with minimal storytelling (instead lots of lore), and character customization. The main character is a blank slate, the only known is that he or she is a vampire hunter. Perhaps you could choose a two-sentence backstory like in Bloodborne. You're thrown in at the deep-end at the beginning of the game. Possibly the objective would be to kill Dracula, but that may be too constraining. The gimmick would be that your class/abilities change depending on what gear you equip. For example, if you find robes you can cast elemental magic, or if you find barbarian Belmont-like armor your class will be reminiscent of a classic Belmont.

I'd actually play that, and it would be among the few things that might take place during the 1999 Event that I'd play, especially if Julius' struggle was NOT portrayed, but is instead implied through bits that you come across in the game, like the aftermath of one of his fights, or a propaganda poster about how the Belmonts are back and they're going to save us all. Imply everything that you've heard about during the Sorrow series, but neither show nor tell ANYTHING. Keep it above your character's pay grade, as it were. :)

This based on the idea I was bouncing around the other day?  It's a fix I'd love to be able to write, but I'd probably lose patience, even if I had the time to write it.  The title I was thinking for my ficcie idea was Castlevania; Requiem of Sorrow, as a sort of coming full cycle, a lamentation requiem, to reference Lament of Innocence, as well as tying in to Aria of Sorrow.  I really liked some of your ideas that you threw my way, and it made me re-work the ideas I'd had for how to reveal Soma's throne acceptance to the others.

A fully open world game with town and villages akin to Red Dead Redemption, but instead of desert it would have thick forests, mountainous area, caverns, swamps, ruins, cemeteries basically all your Castlevania type areas.  All with area specific roaming monsters.  Different castles, mansions, and larger ruins would serve as somewhat self contained levels.  Castlevania would just be ruins near the center until it is ressurected and becomes it's own self contained level, or game if you prefer.  The towns and villages would be full of people you could talk to like in Dragon's Age or Skyrim, giving you side missions and quests.  The series' lore would be spread out through various books and villagers' stories like in skyrim.

The story would be a retelling of the evens in the 1800's.  Players could choose between Reignhart Morris or Shanoa.  Whose secret histories are revealed through their stories.  Reignhart would receive the vampire killer, nor Shanoa Dominus until near the end of the game.  Their playstyles would be very different, but with a lot of variety.

Reignhart's combat would be combo based, but not so exagerated as something like God of War or Devil May Cry.  I would want a lot of weapons available, each with their own uniqe combo styles, like in Curse of Darkness but more modern.  Subweapons would factor in heavily as long range attackers, and a rifle subweapon would be a must.

Shanoa would be more similar to her glyph style in OoE but in 3D wih more variation in physical and more spell/long ranged type attacks, with lots of morphs of course.

Platforming would also be heavily implemented into all the self contained level areas ranging from LoS/SoTC type scaling to more assassin's creed type free running, depending on the area.

Beating the game would unlock characters like Carrie Fernandez, Henry Oldrey, Albus, Cornell, Nathan Graves... as many as they could fit in, expanding on different play styles of the primary two characters.  Boss rush of course.

This thing has been kicking around in my head for years.  I even made a map using the OoE map and icons.

Like your map bro! But the pixel quality could be adjusted as so that they're all squares insted of a mix of squares and rectangles. just FYI  ;)

My dream Castlevania is simple: Take what made Super Castlevania 4 and expand upon it. I believe I've already mentioned it in another thread too... Ah! Here we go;

"Absolutely nothing brought over from LoS. The only thing worth preserving would be the graphical quality. That's it!

The return of multi-directional whip attacking. The only game to feature that was SCV4. Both Bloodlines and Chronicles had some but they did not go with the full 8 directions that made SCV4 so versatile.

Bring back the stairs as well as rope-climbing from the Gameboy titles. Both of these simple game mechanics added a kind of unique depth to the series as well as challenges. But since SotN Stair-climbing was almost non-existent save for their final appearance in Adventure Rebirth.

CV should also forgo the heavily romanticized Gothic tone that was prevalent throughout the IGAvania's and instead go back to the classic campy Halloween theme that made the series so popular to begin with. The Halloween theme can still be done and done very well.

Also we need more variety in terms of protagonists. New Belmonts would be more then welcome. Ones that we've never heard of before. Also it would be a good thing to introduce some women Belmonts to the stage as well. Not just try to bring back Sonia, but introduce a whole slew of others with their own themes and looks. Even better would be to have a character select menu where you can choose to be either a male or female Belmont, and you could even give them their own personal looks and first names. This will add more replay to the game and also give the player a more personal connection with the characters they have created as well. It will also quell the sexual inequality that has been unfortunately prevalent throughout the series.

Bring back the double and triple shot icons. I miss those  :'(  They were simple yet added their own depth to the series. getting a sub-weapon always made me want to collect the shot icons as I knew having them could mean the difference between life and death depending.

In terms of the sub-weapons I vote for a much stronger Dagger. The dagger has always been the weakest weapon in the series so I think it's time to bring it back with a bit of extra kick. Kinda like the silver knife or even the golden knife from Simon's Quest.

And as for Dracula? Enough with the wannabes. No Mathias, no Gabriel, no f**king emos, Just good ole Vlad III the impaler. The true Dracula."

A proper followup to Super Castlevania IV.  Although, my curiosity wants to see CV Resurrection its finished form, which is certainly not my dream game.  But hey, it'd be neat to see.

A serious restructuring of Simon's Quest, so it would be more like Order of Ecclesia.

I did draw up an idea for a completely new Castlevania revolving around how Elizabeth Bartley became relevant, but I think my sister has all the notes I made so I can't remember when it was supposed to take place.

I also want another sorrow game where either Soma goes to the dark side or just a game version of the Ricordanza novel.
But I think the other "non canon" games deserve more love by giving them another chance.

Yes.  This.

Otherwise I don't think I dream very big.  There are just a few elements I'd like to see put together, however big or small a project it would be:
-- I like how LoD had 4 characters who played very differently from each other.
-- I'd like to see the journey of those characters also play differently.  Similar to how the 3 characters in MoF took different paths through the castle, yet sometimes traveled the same locations, whether exactly or different parts of that area.
-- I kinda liked the weapon fusing in CoD, and wouldn't mind seeing something like that again...but I'd also want it to match each character's type of weapon.  So if one character is a Belmont (which should be the case) their crafting would make/alter/affect whips, it one was Alucard it would be blades, etc.

I do, I always felt like the Soma plot had huge potential and felt a bit letdown by DoS trying to be more silly.
If it's set in a more gothic art style with a darker story it would be awesome. (Soma can also just be the bad guy tbh)

I also wonder if a truly modern version of the classicvania would be feasible.

I've always liked DemonFox38's Castlevania fics, especially in the Sorrow-arc.  Their fic 'Dark Reprise' (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10964838/1/Dark-Reprise (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10964838/1/Dark-Reprise)) is fantastic, while 'Whole Tatters' is a wonderful, and very emotional one-shot.  'Dedication', which is on their Archive Of Our Own page, is a great fic told in journal style, also in the Sorrow-arc.  It's a what if Alucard ends up admitted into a hospital, and the gang finds him trapped inside while a vampirism outbreak happens...  I'm also a fan of Lady Lunar Phoenix's Aria of the Ascending Soul, and its previous incarnation, Second Wave of Tears.  These stories all serve to help stir the plot-bunny fairies in my head! :D

There's so much potential that can be done with the Sorow games era.  Soma's a fascinating character in terms of what he's capable of, and I love Alucard in his Genya Arikado disguise.  Lots of potential for stories taking place outside of 'Arikado's' missions with Soma, stories that can be told about jobs he's done with Yoko, etc.

I've also had ideas bouncing round my head for a story set in the non-cannon timeline where Trevor is Sonia and Alucard's son.  What if Trevor, after being badly wounded by Isaac during Curse of Darkness, gets rescued by Alucard rather than Julia, woken by sensing that his son is in grave trouble?  My idea is that the severity of the wound causes Trevor's mostly unnoticeable dhampir heritage fully awakens as a result of his coming close to dying, with that 1/4 vampire blood being what saves him.  When Trevor wakes up, he finds himself in Alucard's tomb, sleeping in his coffin, with Alucard watching over him.  Al then starts to explain, hesitantly admitting that he knew who Trevor was when he journeyed with him during the events of CV3, and that now because of the injury, Trevor is now effectively a full dhampir.  Trevor's eyes have either turned gold completely, or, when he uses his powers/feels bloodthirst, and he has small retractable fangs, like Alucard's, but slightly shorter.  The rest of the fic is Trevor recouperating, and coming to terms with the revelations, and learning to use his new powers.

I'd love for the Conclusion of the Sorrow arc to have two modes. The normal mode which is played as Julius, the second mode which is Arikado in the full Genya getup. Except the way the Castle is traversed to be completely different for the two players. When you finish both games, a secret mode where interchangeable Yoko/ Hammer is unlocked. Better yet, this is the hard mode; interchangeable Yoko and Hammer where both are on screen at once and share 1 life bar... This is HARD MODE

I'm just now working on a fanfiction called "A Dusty Whip" where an archaeologist loosely descended from the Belmont family is investigating the long-abandoned ruins of Castlevania, which seems like a brilliant start for a disconnected-from-canon game.

My game idea would involve that basic premise, where the conflict between the Belmonts and Dracula really ARE myths and never happened as told in the main series, and as you investigate the ruins of the Castle, you find objects connected to the real events that went down and you have playable flashbacks like in Assassin's Creed. These would be historically accurate but mundane versions of the important Castlevania games like Rondo -- Werewolves are elite soldiers of Vlad Tepes who wear wolf pelts and use berserker techniques, vampires are instead the top lieutenants who drain bodies of blood and leave them behind as warnings, and there would be almost nothing supernatural.

Every time you find an artifact, you get a mini-reimagining of an iconic Castlevania game, like Lament of Innocence, Dracula's Curse, the original Castlevania, Rondo of Blood, and ending with Symphony of the Night, with all the fantasy elements reimagined into a reasonable mundane real world explanation that could logically be exaggerated into what we saw play out in the original games. Like a "truth behind the myths" take on the whole saga.

The end game twist would be that Dracula actually WAS a vampire (after calling that into serious question throughout the body of the narrative), and your character ends up waking him up through their excavations and having to be the one who finally conclusively puts him down for good.

I'd play the SHIT out of that game. Screw my earlier vote for Resurrection.

Oooohhh, I love this idea!  :D  I look forward to seeing results.

A final plot-weasel that's been playing a merry dance around my brain for a long while now is a what if a Castlevania film was being made, namely of SotN.  The lead actor for Alucard, Alex, is generally an okay guy, but a bit moody and prone to violent outbursts of temper.  His co-stars are Cate as Maria, Richard as Richter, and Matthew as Dracula.  While filming the initial entering the castle via the rising drawbridge scene, Alex has an accident, crashes to the ground, and gets knocked up.  When he wakes up, he somehow finds himself alone, without any sign of filmcrew.  Everything is real, including his costume now, and he's having to run Castlevania.  He's having to take Alucard's place, and when he encounters Death, Death is al too real, addressing him as Alucard.  He's confuse as all hell initially, but, being an actor, he tries to stay in character as much as he can, including when he meets Maria, and the Librarian, etc.  But there's something freaking him out... as he's going along, he really is learning all of Alucard's abilities and powers, and those prosthetic fangs are all too real.  When he reaches the Nightmare area, it gets even weirder.  He starts remembering things which aren't his own memories.  They're Alucard's.  The lines betwene him and his character seem to be bleeding over, and by the time that he confronts Dracula, he's forgotten of himself as playing a role.  As the castle crumbles, and he parts ways with Maria and Richter, he turns around and finds himself face to face with St Germaine, who's here to take him home.

At this point, Alex wakes up, a bit woozey, back on the filmset, where he'd fallen.  He goes back to his trailer, for a break, filming having been called to a halt.  He goes to divest himself of his costume, not initially noticing that everything is still as it was when he was in Castlevania.  That is, until he goes to remove his wig.  Which won't budge.  And in fact hurts when he tries to pull it off - teh wig isn't a wig.  Freaking out slightly, he runs to his mirror, and sees that the costume isn't a costume, the fangs are still real.  He rummages through his costume, and finds on a chain his relics, with the Bat Familiar waking up and tangling herself in his hair.  While trying to work out what to do, a knock on his trailer door sounds.  It's the film's director, who, upon coming in, turns out to be none other than St Germaine himself, who'd sent Alex to Castlevania.  Angry, wanting to be turned back to his normal self, Alex grabs hold of St Germaine, who says he hadn't palnned this.  Alex's soul had merely found its true self, and his body had shifted accordingly.  Thus why he'd stayed dhampir upon arriving back in this reality.  Alex IS this reality's version of Alucard.

Filming continues, with Cate and Rich getting suspicious of the fact that Alex, and later Matthew, are acting out of sorts, spending a lot of time alone, and Matthew, normally a lovely guy, is flying off into uncharacteristic rages, and avoiding sunlight, eating very little, etc.  Cate and Rich try to confront Alex at some point, bt he walks away, and Cate swears she sees a white wolf slinking off through some bushes.  Eventually, it al transpires when things come all come crashing down, shortly after filming's finished.  Matthew, it turns out, is the incarnation of Dracula, and has been manipulated by Shaft's spirit, who's managed to cross over when Alex returned to his reality, after working out that Alucard isn't entirely who he claims to be, and is the Alucard of a different reality.  He wants to find another way to raise Dracula, and so does so through Matthew.  Alex, after being persuaded by St Germaine, goes to Cate and Richard, explaining the situation.  He tells them what's going on, and that he needs the Belmont's help.  St Germaine presents Cate and Richard with the real counterparts to their characters' gear, including the Vampire Killer.  They take down Matthew/Dracula, with Matthew coming out of it at the last moment, and Shaft's spell is broken.  Matthew is human again.

After this point, Alex goes into denial, and refuses to acknowledge his dhampir nature, cuts his hair short again, etc.  His powers also seem to vanish.  Cate and Alex end up a couple, as do Rich and Annette's actress, Anna.  The gang quit acting, with Cate going back to ventinary college, and Rich and Alex forming their own stuntwork company, VK Stunts.  About a year passes.  Then suddenly, Matthew's wife Beth falls ill and dies, with Matthew suddenly going missing.  In the middle of the night, Alex wakes up, and knows that Castlevania's risen.  In their world.  He flies off, as though suddenly completely Alucard again.  A worried Cate calls Rich and Anna, and Rich goes off in search of Alex, starting at Matthew's house, with Cate staying with Anna, just in case.  Rich finds Alex, and they go off to face Castlevania, Rich armed with his copy of the Vampire Killer.  While travelling through the castle, Alex seems to be trying to repress his vampiric side completely, all while Richard is himself gaining the memories of his counterpart Richter.  That is, until Rich finds himself in mrotal peril, and Alex, stopping worrying about this, flies into action, suddenly armed with his full powers again, and his appearance has once again shifted to being that of his Alucard identity.  While traversing the castle, they both step into a trap and get separated.  Rich thinks that he's the master of the castle, and Alex thinks he's been turned into a full vampire.  After managing to realise it's all an illusion, he suddenly finds himself in a room which is empty aside for a mirror.  There's a lady there, waiting for him.  Lisa.  She accepts him as her son, even if he wasn't physically born to her, and she's there to give him a choice.  To fully accept his dhampir nature, and have it be made concrete as a decision, or let him go back to being a completely normal human.  But he already knows, and upon putting his hand on the Mirror of Fate, the illusion is shattered as he declares himself to be Alucard, also known as Alex, also known as Adrian.  He finds himself clothed in a version of Alucard from Lords of Shadow's gear, except for the addition of a white shirt and a black and gold vest under the coat.  Alucard goes off in search of Richard, and helps him break free of the spells on his mind.  Together, they proceed to the Throne Room, after defeating Death, and they face Matthew, now completely consumed by his rage and grief, now the Lord of Darkness Dracula.  Al and Rich are greatly saddened by the fact that Dracula wasn't ab;e to get his second chance, a chance of living out a life with the love of his life - Beth was the incarnation of Lisa/Elizabeta.  They escape the castle, and return home to teh girls, who are both furious with them, and also saddened by the loss of Matthew and Beth.

Their continue adventures after this involve them encountering more their reality counterparts, including Carmilla and Elizabeth Bartley, and so on.  Richard and Anna have a son, Trevor, who ends up with Sophia - Sypha's counterpart, and Cate and Al have a daughter Liz.  The kids end up having their own adventure, whih is essentialy a retelling of CV3, as Trevor and Liz (taking her father's place and finding herself a dhampir now) venture into Castlevania to rescue Sophia, who's been kidnapped, and meet Grant along the way....

I'm just now working on a fanfiction called "A Dusty Whip" where an archaeologist loosely descended from the Belmont family is investigating the long-abandoned ruins of Castlevania, which seems like a brilliant start for a disconnected-from-canon game.

That sounds like something I would play instantly if it existed.

In that story though, would Dracula have a demonic/dragonlike second form or is he just going to stay a humanoid vampire ala Belmont's Revenge, Order of Eclessia and SCIV?

My character isn't a fighter, so keeping him a withered but mobile husk of a man is more than effective enough to terrify the shit out of her. I kind of imagine him being like a dessicated body, crawling along the ground as his legs are no longer useful, chasing her while she tries to escape.

It's very survival horror, this sequence I have envisioned, because the same situation that has the Simon Belmont of legend go "Eh, another day at the office" would fill literally anyone else with pure terror.

So no. No transformation needed.

Similarly, in the game, I'd have Dracula use almost Batman-esque techniques to help him cultivate a supernatural mystique, and when you fight him in the flashback, he'd use theatricality to make himself seem otherworldly; never mind that he actually IS, he just can't throw fireballs or teleport. But by using things like black powder bombs and the like (which generate a LOT of smoke) he could be viewed by an illiterate populace as throwing fireballs and disappearing in a cloud of smoke from one place and reappearing in another.

I love Alucard in his Genya Arikado disguise.  Lots of potential for stories taking place outside of 'Arikado's' missions with Soma, stories that can be told about jobs he's done with Yoko, etc.

Oh boy, I'm so in with the Genya Arikado missions story line.  :)

I like your ideas. That Hard mode looks promising.

This would be sweet. But I wonder if the game would put us on control of Curtis and those sweet Death powers, or Michelle and her bowgun.

Two modes, or maybe three cause I really wanted to play Julius mode.

So would I. I'm very proud of this idea, and what better way to finish off the series once and for all than with a game the reimagines the stories we're well familiar with at this point so that everything old is new again, and provides closure?

Just for grins, you could set my game in 1999 and star JULIA BELMONT as the hapless grad student doing the investigating, and the person who finally puts Dracula down for good.

They kinda did that in The Terminator. But it would definitely be spooky.

Deliberately the imagery I was attempting to conjure, except in this case it's because he's been asleep so long he's little more than a shrieking bitey corpse trying to chase you fresh out of the coffin while not even fully able to control his own body (like a MUCH scarier and far more villainous version of post-reawakening Gabeula at the beginning of Lords 2). Of course, if he gets to you, he drinks your blood and regenerates, and you get treated to a game over montage wherein Dracula is shown (through a bunch of rapid still images) taking over the world.

That sounds fantastic.  It's sort of reminding me of Elizabeth Kostova's novel 'The Historian' as well, which is a fantastic read, if you haven't already.  It's a sight-seeing tour through Europe, trying to put pieces together in a puzzle surrounding a mysterious book with a dragon map that seems to have some sort of connection to Dracula.

Thank you, you're welcome! :)  The idea sort of keeps playing through my head, and writes itself like a very long film/ tv series, acting like an alternate reality restart of the Belmont clan, who are both like and unlike their games counterparts, as they are them, even though at the same time, Castlevania exists as a games series (including Lords of Shadow) and the movie that they were in.  When Alex believes that he's become a full vampire, he looks like a cross between his Adrian Tepes self and his 'Trevor-card' from LoS vampire self, and that makes it much stronger as an illusion, because he's aware that the LoS Alucard is another version of himself.  Thanks to St Germaine's meddling, combined with Alex's soul deciding that being a dhampir is his true self, an amount of bleeding over of the realities happens, making for interesting events happening.  Meanwhile, Alex and the gang, especially Alex, are learning to deal with having two sets of memories, due to having gone into the Castlevania reality (there would have been an amount of merger for the time in which they were facing Matthew/Dracula and Shaft).  One of the big differences in my head for the characters being somewhat different is that Anna/Annette is able to look after herself, and has done things such as martial arts.

A big theme in this all is that it's about finding oneself.  Alex had a very violent and nasty side to himself prior to going into Castlevania because it was the vampiric aspect of his soul trying to be expressed without being able to, as he was completely human, essentially, while also feeling like he was missing part of himself.  But once he becomes dhampir, that issue sorts itself out.  He also becomes a lot more grounded thanks to the good influences from Cate, Rich, and Anna (with Rich and Anna living next door to Cate and Alex).

Amongst all of this vampire hunting, the gang trying to find how to live as normal people again in a sense, as they're refinding themselves.  They've all quit acting, following the experiences they had making the SotN movie, with Alex and Rich both deciding that stuntwork is probably a better route.  They can also both use their found abilities from the Castlevania-'verse selves to good use.  Calling the stunt group company VK Stunts refers to both Rich/Richter's Vampire Killer and Alex/Alucard's status as a 'Vampire Knight' of sorts.  Meanwhile, Alex and Cate have the fun of introducing each other to their families, and trying to have them not get suspicious of the fact that Al is part vampire, etc.  At some point, the gang go on a holiday to Romania, and end up vampire hunting there.  I think that one of the big images that sticks in my mind which defines Al's acceptance of himself is that the day after he and Rich get back from Castlevania is that he stands before a mirror, wearing his long coat (the LoS Alucard one he acquired after facing the Mirror of Fate, which is the same as the Mirror in LOS), together with black jeans and a red t-shirt, with long combat boots.  He doesn't bother hiding behind an illusion guise, just donning a pair of sunglasses to shade his sensitive eyes.  He then goes down to meet the others, all of them heading to the pub.

Have the game end with her seeing an eclipse and then she falls down, knocks her head and gets amnesia ;D (/sarcasm)

Anyways, I'm pretty sure I'd be panicking too if a shambling corpse just jumped out of a coffin and wanted my blood.  How would Dracula dies and would he be located inside a realistic version of the castle keep (aka it's not floating with just a measly staircase supporting it, but it's actually a tower whose peak is reminiscent of the classic keep)?

I imagine Dracula might only die because the main character gets lucky and manages to get him to be impaled on  something in the open, and the sun rises and kills Dracula before he can dislodge himself on account of his weakened state.

As for the Castle Keep, I'd want to keep [pun not intended] it as a lofty throne room high above the castle, but architecturally sound. Though that does open the door to Drac being impaled on a flagpole of one of the towers or something -- he'd have trouble pulling off of one of those even on his best nights.

If there ever was a 3rd sorrow game I think it would be awesome to see Castlevania (or its replica) fall by Hammer's hand. The guy was in the military, he could easily have loaded the place up with C4 before Julius or Soma ever set foot inside it.

In the ending Arikado could be asking "I don't understand why the Castle imploded..."
Here comes Hammer crawling out of the woodwork with the detonator in hand "Let's just think of it as our insurance policy ;)"

Apparently it was meant to follow on from SotN.  It's a shame that it got stuck in developer issues, and then Konami gave the series to Mercurysteam...  Now if only Iga had been given a better budget and more time...

A proper followup to Super Castlevania IV.  Although, my curiosity wants to see CV Resurrection its finished form, which is certainly not my dream game.  But hey, it'd be neat to see.

Something we really should've gotten. We had the action-adventure from CV2 that SotN built on(plus metroid and zelda obviously), the different paths were expanded in RoB by making them hidden ones that you found in levels, but after CV4 tried to revolutionize the series in terms of controls, the devs never tried to build on.

Sure it made the player too OP, but they could've done all of the suggestions everyone on this forum has thought of, the most obvious being to reduce the length and power. Plus I'm sure we miss the style and world that CV4 went for: The grittiness CV3 went for but more fleshed out thanks to new hardware.

If that ever happened, I'd like a sequen to CV2's good ending. I did make a theory that Haunted Castle could be considered a sequel to CV2, but officially HC is a retelling sooo yeah. That ending was never brought up again, could make for a good narrative driven CV.

Such a shame. It'd be so awesome to have Alucard waking up again for whatever reason, runs into Maria again, or a descendant. Something I loved about Alucard was how you can tell he was constantly tormented by his dhampir-ism, the eternal life, and his having to fight his father, but he never bitches or moans about it like almost evey character like that. He's so accepting of everything, like his dialogue at the end of SotN
(click to show/hide)
He also isn't a generic quiet protagonists, where he's cool cus he's quiet and mostly unemotional. He's like that because of what he's been through and what he has to face. He's accepting of it and numb from it. I might be looking to deep into it, but Alucard has so much potential for future games.

Now if Iga was behind another 3D game, I feel like he would've finally found the right stride. In a 3D game, to keep the world interesting you have to make it feel like a world, something CV64 did so much better than LOI and COD IMO. The levels  felt like spaces in a world. The only level that doesn't do this as well is the Tunnel, but I'll cut some slack because it is a tunnel afterall. The IGA 3Dvanias followed the metroidvania level design too closely IMO. The map system was well executed, but the level design felt like it was meant for a 2D game but forced into 3D. Having too many repeated rooms and "shapes" of the rooms can get boring in a 3D game because it feels more like mindless arena running. In the 2D games, it felt more natural because of the 2D nature and the platforming. If the stages were smaller and didn't reuse as many rooms, I think they'd be MUCH better. With the better hardware, maybe Iga could've found the right blance between CV64's level design and SotN style design.

I'm sort of pissed that LOD wasn't remade like Starfox/ Lylat Wars was for the 3ds.

The camera issues and a higher framerate with more solid graphics would have solved ALL of the 64 titles' issues imo.

The issue with Castlevania in 3d is that gaming became more geared toward casual and/or blockbuster title players.
In CV64/ LOD if you fell from too high or down a pit, you died, period. Even by the time of LOI in the few pitfalls they had you'd simply lose life. Even though LOS wasn't the most easy game on the harder setting, it went down the "checkpoint" route which is okay for longer stages, but having this employed for different forms of bosses makes me shudder every time.

Castlevania is the one series I believe where the first instincts (64 iterations) were basically the best and got it right. Sure some things could be ironed out, but mostly those games suffered from an at times awkward camera and slightly stiff gameplay which LOD improved drastically upon imo. These issues could've been solved and in terms of gameplay in the grand scheme, all the characters were missing was a backdash imo. You're right that if they'd continued down this line they would've made a winner.

A remake of those games would be great! If it happened I'd hope they wouldn't have the GoW style attack system and over-epicness that LOS had. The attacks in 64 were pretty stiff, but it helped the CV feel: The control in the NES games is pretty stiff. A situation where you're as epic an action hero as Gabriel doesn't leave any suspense to your battles. I'm not to familiar with the Dark Souls series, but from what I've seen I think that'd be a good template.

And you're spot on with the mainstream nature of games. I'll admit, I do really love games that are easy to play through that I can beat in 1 sitting, but I prefer games like Ninja Gaiden NES and CV where you have to be skilled at the game in order for them to be a breeze. I like short games with a lot of replay value, and games like the ones mentioned above work perfectly because of the difficulty: You're equipped with what you need, so get skilled with what you have. But I do love how easy Valis 1 for Genesis is because it's a game with a story and world I like, great for downtime with a familiar game. I can beat CV and NG no problem, but I do have the risk of dying and getting annoyed.

I want a redone Harmony of Despair. 2016 style. More Chars, levels, etc.

After playing Lament of Innocence, I really wanted a game that was a direct follow up to it - something that took the play style and refined it, with a story that revolved around Leon chasing down leads on Mathias in foreign lands, defeating other creatures of darkness... I know the ending of LoI says that Mathias and the Belmont's wouldn't meet again for hundreds of years, but surely some kind of confrontation between Leon and Mathias could be contrived.  I just like the idea of using exotic, medieval era locations as settings for the levels, perhaps with confrontations with other, lesser (though still powerful) vampires along the way.

Personally, I believe an LOI sequel with another Vampire antagonist would be better. Walter served well as an antagonist which also threw a massive spanner into the works, being that
(click to show/hide)
after his defeat at the hands of Leon.

A sequel where Leon, having mourned the loss of Sara but also of his closest comrade, explores the vast open world of Wallachia in hopes of finding the scent of Mathias' trail.
I'd prefer it involve another Vampire altogether as the antagonist, perhaps a female, ruthless, cold, void of compassion and callous in nature. 2 playable characters, Leon and Rinaldo. Point of the journey to be assisting people whose love ones have been turned by the main antagonist, let's call her "The Queen".

The twist: every vampire you destroy is feeding the Queen's power to another level. The only saving grace is the power of the VK, fuelled by Sara's undying rage to prevent those who are destined to suffer the same fate as her from becoming tainted in the first place.
- around 5 villages and open environments Leon visits
- A main vampire terrorising each; once they die, the villagers are healed of vampirism.
- Little does Leon know that destroying them fuels the Queen's power, rendering her insanely powerful
- Joachim makes an appearance, either as a playable character, or a villain working under the Queen (resurrected by a pact with her) or both
- Leon and Rinaldo team up for the final battle
- in the ending sequence Leon and Rinaldo sense something is awry when instead of the Queen dying, her soul is absorbed into a vortex by an unknown force.
- Mathias watches in the distance with the shadow of Death by his side while he absorbs her soul into the Crimson Stone, acquiring all of her powers; including those of the other vampires she sired.
- The final scene is Leon burning with rage running into what appears to be the Forrest of eternal night, towards a castle.. The camera pans up from the earth, behind Leon, to a full moon (which is the same way LOI started - only with a moon crescent rather than a full moon) while the words "The End" materialise, leaving the player on the edge of their seat, not knowing what will happen for the next 300 years before Trevor Belmont's appearance.

That ending was such a lazy thing. I don't even know why it had to be said, and it actually kills A LOT of potential for interesting plots and settings like you just said. I mean, why even set LOI with that far of a gap between it and CV3 if that time won't be used for more stories? It would've made more sense to just have LOI a century or so before CV3 and say they'll finally clash again the next century. Your ideas are what Iga should've had in mind.

My dream CV project? Okay, to be honest, I have quite a few:

1. Waltz of Oblivion- I've been tossing this one around for a LONG time. It deals with the time right before the Belmonts go into hiding(early 1800s), and features Richter(a little older) and an event that puts the final nail into the coffin(hehe) regarding their ability to wield the whip(until Julius, that is). Basically, the gist of the story is that Dracula's collective minions(monsters and evil humans sympathetic towards the Dark Lord) gather in their master's absence to devise a plan to rid the Belmont family from the equation. They know that the Belmonts are the only true threat to their Dark Lord, so if they can rid the Belmonts(or hinder them in some way), it would provide Dracula enough time to gain power without anybody standing in his way.

Richter has been having nightmares since the events of SotN, and can sense the taste of darkness within himself. The Dracula loyalists know this, and it will be vital to them cursing the Belmont lineage(Richter's descendants) from touching the Vampire Killer whip. In the meantime, not having a heir himself(just yet, that is, though the darkness within may be to blame), he has found a distant relative(a Morris) that he is training as his apprentice. Eventually, the Dracula loyalists attack Richter's hometown and Richter and his apprentice venture off to their lair beyond the ruins of Castlevania. I think the Dracula loyalists, I once named, were comprised of various monsters, and in tradition of the series, real life killers thought to be vampires(Clara Geisslerin was one, I know for sure).

Basically, it was a sequel to SotN.

2. Brothers Belmont- This one took place between Belmont's Revenge and the first CV, dealing with two Belmont brothers and focused more on how the Belmont lineage chose it's "successors" that would wield the VK whip. Sons of Soleiyu, Jesche(the older) and Alex(the younger) were close, and during the Rites of Succession, Jesche was chosen as the wielder of the Vampire Killer whip. Meanwhile, all is silent since the vanquishing of the Dark Lord Dracula, but a carriage rolls into Wallachia carrying Countess Bartley, vampiric niece of Dracula. She commands creatures of the night to attack the countryside and Jesche ventures off to defend his homeland. But, he disappears and the Belmont family is worried, as the monster attacks seem to be getting worse. Alex sets out to discover what became of his brother and try to stop the growing darkness that has shrouded the land.

I wanted something with more of a family dynamic. Focusing on what happens when you bring brothers, sisters, moms, dads, aunts and uncles into the picture. The Belmont family is a FAMILY for a reason. That aspect always interested me and I always wanted to see it explored a whole lot more(thought it looks like we will never get to see it).

3. Game-of-Thrones-vania- Not specifically like Game of Thrones, but more echoing aspects of my previous idea, a focus on family. This is the idea I tossed around before more recently regarding a rivalry between the Belmont family and the Dracula family(yes, family). Introduce brothers Mircea and Radu, as well as Vlad the Monk(who actually turns on his brothers dark ambitions to aid the Belmonts). Focusing on the rise of Dracula(my origin took some concepts for LoI, but kept the setting around the 1400s with Dracula actually being Vlad III, not Matthias Cronqvist or Gabriel Belmont). Though, my concept was that Gabriel Belmont(yeah, I know) was a companion to Vlad III(Dracula) and brothers-in-arms. Gabriel and his men betray Dracula after witnessing his cruel ways against a Turk camp, and leaves Dracula to be captured and imprisoned by the Turks. Dracula meets an old man within the depths of the prison, an undying infidel that's entire existence is a mockery of all that is holy. The man(Alhazred) teaches Dracula ways of the darkness and the path to attain more(the location of Scholomance). The meager powers allow Dracula to escape and be taught the ways of darkness. He enters Scholomance as a man and leaves as the Dark Lord. Returning to his homeland, he grants his gift to his brothers(who at the time were fighting for his throne), then seeks revenge on those who betrayed him. Many of the men in Dracula's company, including Gabriel(and a Denasti) were killed.

It basically leads up to a revisionist version of CV3, Trevor still being Gabriel's son(like LoS), who was away while his family was slaughtered by Dracula. And when I mention family, I also mean Denasty/Denasti, Belnades and such, all clans that will hold a great importance to the story. Lots of family business, betrayal and such. And how Vlad's own brother turned against the Dracula family to join and aid the Belmonts, perhaps someone of the Belmont clan(a brother or cousin) is lured by the darkness and tries to betray Trevor? Some real good backstabbing stuff afoot!

4. Castlevania: The Movie- This is something I've thought of after watching a movie this past holiday season. I'm a simple man when it comes to adaptations. For a CV movie, I always thought you should work with the basics, and in CV's case, that means Simon Belmont. My idea would be a Princess Bride take on CV. If I had the ability to time travel(and money), damn! Okay, my idea is, 1986, six-year old Jules(Julius) Belmont is home on a dark stormy night as the door bell rings. His parents open the door to find a gruff-voiced man in a duster coat and cowboy hat standing in the rain. It's old Uncle Jonny(once called Jonathan) Morris(played by Sam Elliot). Familiar with the parents, he goes inside to see Jules and give him a very special present, a book on their ancestry. Jules fingers through the book with cool pictures of monsters and heroes, then asks Uncle Jonny to tell him about them. Jonny then tells the story of Simon Belmont and how the Dark Lord Dracula was resurrected during a black mass as a great Easter celebration was happening in town. Dracula's demonic army attacked the celebration, in which our young hero Simon took up the Vampire Killer whip and ventured off to Castlevania, the castle of Dracula. All the while, between the majority of footage of Simon, we see cuts of something outside Jules's house, lurking in the trees and bushes. Uncle Jonny's story concludes with Dracula's defeat, but he warns that it wasn't the last the Belmonts seen of Dracula. Eventually, the lights go out and Uncle Jonny goes to see if Jules' parents are alright. He finds them dead and monsters(skeletons and werewolves) roaming the house. He pulls out the VK whip and starts kicking ass. He returns to Jules to find a vampire attacking him. Jules(who wears a cross), presses it onto the vampire's face as Uncle Jonny finishes it off. It basically starts with Jonny taking Jules in to train him to carry on his family's legacy(dun dun dun... set up for 1999).

But yeah, this one, I wanted it to feel like an 80s horror adventure, even with 80s-esque arrangements of the CV theme songs.

Thanks Crying Freeman!  Personally, I'd like to see the game start fairly soon after LoI, with Leon and Rinaldo investigating the Cronqvist Estate and uncovering the secret entrance to Mathias's 'black library' - where he kept all his forbidden tomes and undertook his alchemical experiments.  From there they uncover clues which lead Leon to travel across the medieval world, encountering other powerful Vampires while trying to track down leads on Mathias...

Of course, globe hopping in those days was a much more involved and time consuming activity... I'd have Leon actually change in appearance as the game progresses, looking older and harder the further into the game you get, throw in some costume changes as well, perhaps revisit the ruins of Walter's castle...

My dream Castlevania project.

Castlevania: Phantom Blood.

You play as Alucard, Soma Cruz, Shanoa & Simon Belmont, the story take's place after the end of their stories (SotN, DoS, OoE & CVII: SQ), they are at peace with themselves, untill someone is messing with the time Stream, it's up to Soma, Alucard, Shanoa & Simon to team-up to fix time itself so they can resume their own timelines!

The team mechanics would be similiar to Portrait of ruins but with 4 characters in the graphics and gameplays of LoS 2 in an open world taking place in Castle Dracula.

In the game you can upgrade each of the 4 characters for e.x.: You can upgrade the VK from it's leather whip to it's beam of light from CV64: LoD, You can fully upgrade Alucard and Soma's weaponries & Shanoa's Glyphs powers, not only that but you can also upgrade the 4 characters with core skill's, abilities and combativities!

Plus if you beat the game on hard mode you unlock alt. skins/outfits such as: simon get's his LoS - MoF skin and his Chronicles outfit, Alucard get's his LoS2 skin and his CV3 outfit, Soma get his AoS outfit and Shanoa get's her Judgement outfit!

If you beat the game you unlock Boss rush to test your boss fight abilities!

If you beat the hardest dificulty, you get a secret cutscene!

and who is the final/main antagonist? well i'm not going to reveal it.... not yet! ;)

Thank you. I haven't seen you on the forums previously so if you're new then welcome :)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the 5 environments would be designed to connect and feed into one another as the story progresses. Although there would be 5 separate villages/ hubs, the environment would play as one open field. Although this would be an LOI sequel, there wouldn't be a combo system as such, just hard hitting attacks and subweapons/ item crashes. Like the 2dvanias you could chain combos by dash-cancelling.

Not 'dream' games exactly - certainly not in the 'ideal' game sense, but other Castlevania game ideas that have sprung into my head as I've been playing through and absorbing the series over the last year...

Soleiyu's Quest: a game starring Soleiyu Belmont battling against Elisabeth Bartley - either as a Classicvania or perhaps as a Metroidvania for the Game Boy.  Or anything really, I just remember seeing the idea of Soleiyu vs Bartley proposed on here ages ago and it really resonated with me.

Resurrection: the old cancelled Resurrection idea - I wouldn't mind going one further and seeing it also include Desmond Belmont, so it could have all three 'lost' Belmont's - it's 1666 and Desmond has disappeared while investigating activity at Dracula's still standing Castle.  His sisters then cast s spell which draws two other 'lost' Belmont's through time to aide him.

Prequel to CotM: I really enjoyed CotM and would love a prequel - I've got some vague ideas about a system where you control three characters, Morris Baldwin and both of Nathan's parents, as they explore the castle - but they all start in different locations and you use save rooms to swap between characters and share items etc - possibly even as an on line co-op game... Not sure how well it would all work though...

Kokoro Belmont game: craziest idea of all - a game starring Kokoro Belmont!  Set during the solar eclipse cycle that occurs between 1999 and 2036, Dracula Castle appears and Kokoro sets out to investigate.  Why I had this random des was that it would be a side scroller version of Guardian Legend from the NES, a mix of Gradius style shooter and Metroidvania! Light hearted in style but not entirely silly.  The plot could be that Galamoth is reaching back in time to try and take over in the time when Dracula is missing or something and it's a fake image of the Castle or something.

Kid Dracula Metroidvania: a Metroidvania starting Kid Dracula, with a Game Boy Advance type aesthetic and a chibi version of Dracula's Castle to explore.

I think this game would sell to fans and the like purely because of the title. I would buy it based on that.

I think Resurrection with Sonia would be awesome, but I really wish they'd not involve a "time" element.

I would say don't over-complicate it, just have the CVIII/ DoS System where you can flick between 3 characters with different abilities.

Kid Dracula Metroidvania: a Metroidvania starting Kid Dracula, with a Game Boy Advance type aesthetic and a chibi version of Dracula's Castle to explore.

I would play the shit out of this.

I've been proposing this idea for some time now, and posted it on this very thread (http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,8390.msg186359.html#msg186359). It just makes sense to have Soleiyu hunt for Elizabeth Bartley. She died in a period where Soleiyu was an adult. Furthermore, the latest timeline states that the Bartleys are believed to be behind Dracula's first revival (The Adventure). This SCREAMS "Elizabeth had a hand in this".

I can't think of anyone else to put an end to Elizabeth but Soleiyu.

Yes, I had a feeling it was you that had proposed that idea before, theplottwist - but not from this thread, I believe you have spoken about it in your Umbra of Sorrow project thread as well?  I read about the idea awhile ago and it just made so much sense to me.  Like zangetsu, I would be all over a Soleiyu based game if it was ever released - although perhaps not, as we joked in another thread, if it was released as a pachislot game  :-\

I would say don't over-complicate it, just have the CVIII/ DoS System where you can flick between 3 characters with different abilities.

Yeah, it is an idea that could get very complicated very quickly, especially with three characters - it would perhaps be easier to make work with only two characters (though that relegates one of the characters to a 'support' role or even kidnap figure role), or if the game was much more dedicated to being a multi-player game and the single-player mode was more there to make it accessible to everyone (like with LoZ: Four Swords Adventures, where it's clearly more fun with multiple players but you have a single player option as well).  I just thought there could be potential in a game where you have multiple characters that split up and take different paths, and you actually follow them between their different paths, or alternatively, where you play it multi-player but you are all free to run around and explore as you wish, accomplish different things, coming together to do certain things and fight bosses.

I would play the shit out of this.

So would I!  :D  A really fun and nice looking Kid Dracula update game - like a chibi Symphony of the Night.

If Castlevania is a creature of chaos then why can't canon and non canon titles work as multiverse compliments of one another? They all exist inside of the vampires lair.

That would be an interesting idea.

I've got this mental image of Chaos being sort of an infection branching out across the multiverse, and then when it reaches a new universe, a version of Dracula rises there, and a Belmont (or suitable analogue) appears as sort of an antibody response to the infection, and if you enter into Chaos' lair, all of the infected universes are suddenly all true in that one place -- the one place where Trevorcard might meet Nathan Graves and Julius Belmont.

That's when the whores come in. Whores running around, doing their little behind-shake for the men folk...

I like her idea.

Oops sorry I could help but quote Tommy Boy there. It seemed like a nice follow up to where you were going.
But in all seriousness you're thinking, I like it. Maybe as your scenario plays out in another wing of the castle Trevor Belmont and Adrian Tsepes meet the amalgamated Trevorcard as another possiblity perhaps in the Mirror's reflection. Or maybe in this universe Richter Belmont saves the ToyMaker from Walter Bernard before he is ensnared and forced to give his heart away thus altering or preventing the events of LOS. Gabriel Belmont (who I liked playing as) meets his future self or the Matthias incarnation of Dracula.

Aww yiss.  This could mean that we could have a crossover of all the Simon Belmonts. 8)

There was a Doctor Who novel where the Eighth Doctor gazes into just such a mirror and sees all the non canon versions of the Ninth Doctor (like from Scream of the Shalka and the parody special Curse of Fatal Death) as possible futures for himself, and he's further implied to see every. noncanon. Doctor. that takes place after his regeneration (from all of the BBC's and Big Finish's "what-if" novels and audio dramas).

Of course he regenerates into John Hurt and then Christopher Eccleston.

But it was a great scene, and it would be cool to see Castlevania pull something similar. Maybe Dracula gazes into the mirror instead and sees all the different ways his life could have gone and might still go based on his choices. That makes more sense for a "Dracula redeems himself" plotline than Lords 2's attempt.

Dracula turns from the mirror, and there's Alucard:

Quote
"What did you see, father?"

"Despair. So much despair. But in one thread, I saw hope."

"Is not that hope worth chasing?"

Never mind my super awesome theory as to why Dracula didn't ever redeem himself even after Alucard tells him Lisa's last words; but that's a whole different thread.

(Long time no visiting the forums. The Internet filter at work doesn't help that much :P )

I dunno if anyone mention this project, but I am expecting a Dracula's Curse Chronicles game, like the Dracula X Chronicles one. I mean, a Dracula's Curse remaster (2D sprites and arranged music) with the classic  game as an unlockeable :D .

My favorite company to do such work would be WayForward or Arc System Works, even Inti Creates.

I wouldn't call this my dream project, but since we're throwing ideas around, I might as well post this here.

So, we already have a Dracula origin story. Sort of. However, I think LoI only tells us the beginning of that story: how Mathias became a vampire. The epilogue then quickly catches up with the situation shortly before 1476 with Mathias calling himself Maou and Dracula (in the Japanese version). What I had in mind was a game which depicts the transition from Mathias to Vlad Tepes and finally Dracula. This has been proposed a lot of times already but I have a slightly different take on things, so hear me out.

First a quick clarification, I'm going with the story that Msthias doesn't become the Dark Lord until after Lisa's death (which has been stated before in a source) as well the idea that he doesn't take on the name "Devil" (Dracula) until that time as well (which isn't quite canon but feels like the most appropriate time to me).

But how would such a story work? I don't playing as the villain would be fun and appropriate for a Castlevania game at all. Lords of Shadow did it but that story is really awful. So I would propose something that would probably get some protest at first: make Dracula the legitimate hero of the story. You would root for him in the same way you would as for any other protagonist in the series.

But then say: "That wouldn't work at all because in LoI Mathias renounced God and became a vampire". Which is a fair point, but in the Encyclopedia of Castlevania it does say "Dracula once more regained his human heart" after he fell in love with Lisa. So I would use that as my justification for why it would OK to consider Dracula the good guy. Not necessarily that he is a goody two-shoes, but more like a slightly more roughed version of Alucard, who has something legitimately terrible in his past, but with still a chance of redeeming himself.

What I think would be interesting to explore would be how Dracula 1) obtained his castle 2) became a Count and 3) became "the protector of the land". My idea for the setting of the game would Wallachia roughly in the 1440s or 1450s  starring "Vlad Tepes" (perhaps just Vlad) and Lisa, before they married and had Alucard. Also, I imagine Dracula appears young in this game because pretty much all protagonist in the series appear that way. He probably wouldn't dress like his traditional self yet, so he would look more like Alucard, I guess?

As for the conflict/antagonist, as I mentioned before, Dracula wouldn't be the Dark Lord yet, so that would be someone else (I'll leave the identity to the imagination). I don't think it would be a good idea to make this character a large scale treat because that kind of undermines what Dracula eventually does, so more like Walter.

Let's say this character is causing some trouble locally. The Belmonts aren't around because they are exiled. Vlad Tepes is requested to take this character down. But by who and what would be his motivation be for doing this? I think my "Akumajo Lisa" idea works well. Lisa is the local Countess and last descendant of a knight family which was originally tasked with defending the land, but has recently fallen in decline. So she tries recruiting other knights who could take on this local treat. Since Vlad Tepes was a knight and brilliant tactician in his former life, it would make sense for him character-wise to be recruited. His motivation for helping would be because Lisa is the spitting image of his former wife.

Then the game proper begins. Perhaps the villain ends up taking over Lisa's castle in the story and turns it into the Demon Castle we all know, so it would still be like a regular Castlevania game. Vlad fights only with dark-aligned equipment. I think the "Demon recruitment" system I mentioned before would work very well in a setting like this.

The epilogue would be Vlad and Lisa marrying, him inhereting the castle and title of Count, and with the birth of Alucard.

But it's mobile gaming!  Sorry, but I can't stand gaming on a phone.  I'd want this at at least DS level, preferrably full console.

I feel ya man. Even if its a great game, I have control problems on touch, plus covering the screen is annoying af. Even games with great controls on mobile are cumbersome to play. If Konami could make it on PC and mobile, I think it'd be decent (played a demo of an indie game on android, unplayable at parts cus I couldn't react fast enough, played the PC demo -same exact game- but it was so much more enjoyable and playable on keyboard).

Nothing is worse than MVC2 on Ipad.. It makes Magneto infinites seem very finite.

I did still manage to defeat 2 teams against the AI and pull off a super move with Wolverine  ;D

Ok, aside from 1999...

-A remake of Legends. Sonia is just too badass.
-A game about Alucard's first confrontation with his father. He got his ass kicked BTW and was locked up for being a bad, bad son.
-A distant post-apocalyptic-steampunkish future where no one remembers Dracula but the castle rises and Alucard appears to help the female lead who's a descendant of the Belmont Clan and she doesn't flash huge boobs and is super lame at first at the whole vampire hunting business, but eventually learns to whip it (lol) and defeats Dracula, and there are no romantic feelings between her and Alucard thank you, they remain friends.
-The story of the greatest hero of all times, and how in secret he has always helped the Belmont Clan destroy Dracula. All Hail Pumpkin. LMAO Come on, it would be fun as hell to play.
-Mathias' quest to acquire more power after absorbing Walter's soul. I LOVE stories where the lead is actually the bad guy and I want to see more sexy Mat before his looks go to waste  :-*
-A fighting game where Simon doesn't look like Light Yagami and Eric Lecarde doesn't look so shota

And I fully support the Chibivanias. Those... those sound amazing.

Mathias should have gotten his own quest in LOI which started in the woods and opened up different parts of the Castle.

Seriously if anyone has played RE4 "separate ways" you know what I'm on about.

I think Joachim is awesome, but Mathias deserved a quest more than he did.

Indeed. Mathias had a lot of potential, but instead of creative quests we got a half-assed back story for Dracula.

Hahaha. I'm sure a lot of story was cut from LoI. IGA did mention that he cut a lot of the story content from SotN, so I'm just assuming all of his games have a lot of cut content.

To be fair Shiroi, LOI was the first 3D CV to incorporate spoken dialogue and I wouldn't call the cutscenes short. Both LOI and COD have a decent amount of story for a 3D CV imo, and story had never been the main focus of the series (as previously it was just a means to fighting Dracula).

Thanks for the warm welcome  ;) I think IGA had a lot in mind for every single game, but just like what happens in movies, stuff had to get cut out. Of course, as zangetsu468 said, the cutscenes are not short at all but still, editing is a must in every form of publishing.

But yes, a Mathias centered game... my heart breaks a little because we're never getting that.
