So, uhhh, I'm going to say what I feel about each game:
LoZ: Good fun, but not much more.
AoL: Actually a bit better, especially in the action part. Probably the best action in the series.
ALttP: One of the greatest games in the series, it definitely deserves a place in the top places.
LA: A personal favourite. It just did so much correctly. Especially the dungeons. Dungeons 6-8 were some of the best in the entire series. I wish they'd use the randomly-warping underground passages again, they actually add a lot to the level designs.
OoT: Best game
in the series on the market, I'd say. Sure, it does have flaws here and there, but overall, there's just so many things that make this game amazing, I can forgive every single flaw it has. I also have a lot of memories from this game. It's just...so beautiful.
MM: A fantastic game, but not at the top. Still, it had some amazing stuff, especially in terms of dungeon designs.
OoA: Horrible game. Ok, so the overworld was nice, and the time-based puzzles were pretty good here and there, but as for the rest...it's just...bad. The flow of the game is very down-putting, the storyline wasn't anything special and the dungeons were convoluting to the point of pointlessness. Each one was also extremely forgetful. And the bosses sucked. Usually just one single puzzle that you have to realise, after which there is almost no way to lose to them. Bottom of the series, I'd say.
OoS: Same as OoA, but with one pivotal difference: The bosses and mini-bosses were really, really good. Which throws it quite a bit above the other, but it's still very low on the list.
FS: Great multiplayer fun. Fin.
WW: Fantastic game, on the same place as MM.
FSA: This game really has some great stuff. Yes, the dungeons were all split up, but it offered some really great puzzles.
MC: Capcom got its act together in FS, but in this game they really shine. With powerfully individual dungeons, a great flow and overworld and some fantastic boss battles, this game really shines as a great example of what Zelda should be. Still not on the top, though...
TP: A cesspit of
hatred and lies, it broke more promises than it fulfilled.
ONE PROMISE: Dark, gritty, mature. True to a certain extent, but when the most shocking point of the game is finding out that TWO PEOPLE DIED (Rutela and the sage dude), then there's something not right. What about all the zoras who died when the HUGE VOLCANIC ROCK hit them? What about when Zelda gave her life to save Midna's? What about all the gorons Link was forced to kill on the way up Death Mountain? So much wasted potential
ANOTHER PROMISE: Fantastic swordplay. The engine was there, but the battles were some of the worst in the series. YET ANOTHER PROMISE: Epic boss fights! The boss fights sucked. Sure, they looked awesome, but they sucked. The final boss battle against Ganondorf was also pretty much a re-hash of the battle against the Dark Nut. Only, uhhh, it was worse. I'm serious:
The final battle was worse than a mini-boss. That's some serious problems right there D:
AND ANOTHER PROMISE: Amazing wolf-based gameplay. I'm not kidding when I say the transformation masks in MM were used way better. The wolf had some cool features, but there was so little there that it hardly mattered. Seriously, who
wasn't expecting a completely wolf-based dungeon when the concept was introduced for the very first time?
THEY JUST KEEP ON COMING: Horse-based battles of epic proportions. There were, what, two times when you had to fight on horseback? And neither one was the huge battle we were all promised.
I SWEAR, THIS NEVER GETS OLD: An enormous field which would take a seriously huge ammount of time to cross. It'd also be awesome. It was big, yes, but vastly empty in its wake. Y'know, I remember finding this random
hookclawshot point out in the field and following it to find
a huge volcanic cavern. Right in the middle of nowhere! It was amazing! But I never found anything else that piqued my interest there. Except for maybe some interesting scenery...
HOLY FUCK WHY WON'T THEY STOP: The Twilight Realm. The twilight-covered areas were ok, but when I found I was going to the Twilight Realm I was ecstatic. The disappointment when it was just a single dungeon...a very small dungeon, too...
SPEAKING OF DUNGEONS: They had interesting concepts, but the puzzles are just so simple and straight-forward, it really fails to capture that spirit found in so many former games in the series. Combine this with my action comment, and this game is just far, far, FAR too easy!
AND ITEMS: They were pretty awesome! But you only ever used each one of them in the dungeons you were in, and then never again.
But despite that, it's actually pretty good. But far from the top.
PH: With some of the most shallow puzzles in the series, this game fails to procure an epic quest that the other ones do, but it is really fun. Just...fun.
So, OoT it is!
