Castlevania: Dark Night

The eerie silence and smell of death greeted Jengo Croft as he entered the catacombs of Castlevania, located deep beneath the castle, it was not only a place where many of the castle's victims were kept for eternity but it was also where Jengo called his own. His metal boots were quiet as he walked down the dirt and mold that made up the catacomb's floor. The walls were bricks covered in mold that gave it a dark green appearance that matched the floor. After jumping into a lower part of the catacomb, he took a seat against a small space between two coffins propped against the right side of the moldy brick wall.

"Ah, I've long missed the smell of decay, it's ambiance is always enjoyable." Jengo said as he sniffed the stale air, it had been about a day since Dracula and the castle had been resurrected and the Count was currently talking to Shaft and Death, both of whom were often his advisers and primary protectors against intruders. Behind his hood that was part of a silky black robe, a small smile came across his face for he knew that he wasn't as powerful as Death or gifted with magic as Shaft was but there was one thing that he did better than anyone in the castle and that was blending in with a environment.

Since he was the only Doppelganger in the castle he often called himself Omul se confruntă cu multe, it suited him because of his ability to change into anyone he encountered, it was this ability that made him valuable not only as a spy but as an assassin as well. Yet despite all the times he'd been ordered to kill or spy on someone, it always ended with Dracula's defeat at the hands of the Belmont family. The thought of the Belmont family always victorious made him hiss in anger.

"It is a pity that our so called 'Prince of Darkness' has never once been able to end the bloodline of the Belmonts, if I were lord of this castle, I could kill them with very little effort." Jengo scornfully thought, suddenly a plan started to come into his head, a plan that would not only ensure the death of the Belmont family but also see to it that there would be a new ruler of Castlevania. What started out as a small chuckle ended with the echo of a sinister laugh throughout the catacombs

Author notes: I take no profit from this story and except for my characters, do not own Castlevania...

Omul se confruntă cu multe- "Man of many faces"- Romanian

Dopellganger: Double {German}

I really didn't know if a Doppelganger actually has a body, besides the ones it copies, so I had Jengo wear a robe that covered his hands and face.

So, what do you guys think about the 1st chapter so far? Chapter 2 will be up as soon as possible...

It's a good start,  and an interesting name (doesn't exactly roll off the tongue).

Some thoughts, however.

A Doppelganger, according to folklore, is a copy of an existing person from another dimension (usually in a mirror or a parallel plane).  Doppelgangers usually end up in our dimension either by accident, or by an event which links the dimensions together.  They seem to know where the original version is, and usually will take the other person out (suicide, insanity) or will outright kill them and assume their identity.

You seem to be describing a shapeshifter, not a doppelganger.
Doppelgangers cannot shift forms (exception: the cv3 'doppelganger' is erroneously named so, since he seems to be an amorphous blob that can mimic other characters, akin to the T-1000 of T2: Judgment Day).
The Doppelganger10 in Symphony of the Night is from another dimension (of which the portal door opens in the Outer Wall).  Not sure where Doppelganger40 comes from, however.
The X68000/Chronicles Doppelganger seems to come out of a mirror, and is a distorted reptilian version of Simon.

Here's an example of what a true Doppelganger would be like (Twilight Zone Episode "Mirror Image"):
PART1 (This part is a bit boring)

PART2 (This is where it starts to get a bit weird):

PART3 (the climax):

Thx for the advice, this is my first Castlevania so I naturally assumed Doppelgangers were the ones who could shift forms. From now on, Jengo will be known as a shapeshifter...thx u for the kind advice and plz keep it coming for my next chapters
