The Sonic 4 series is complete shit.
Gameplay wasn't THAT bad, but it was slow, physics were strange, and the music was the worst in the entire franchise.

Episode 2 was better. Maybe Ep 3 will be even better!

Episode 2 fixed a lot of the physics and gameplay problems. Now if they could just capture the charm of the old levels.

it would help if they stopped imitating old levels and made new ones. there were a few new ones, but a lot of them are still Sonic 2 levels.

Nostalgia kills.

Only in specific situations. In this case it's Sonic 4. I tried the game out but that was only part 1. I got seriously stuck in the Casino night zone because the physics were incredibly off I couldn't get out of the deep pits. That killed the game for me right there. The only thing good about it I found was that graphically it looked amazing, but that's as far as it goes.

did this ever get released

Sonic & Knuckles 3D - Mushroom Hill Zone
That's just a fan video, not a game. It says so right in the description

Sonic & Knuckles 3D - Mushroom Hill Zone

Sonic Generations, Act 1 was copy-paste until the Dreamcast era.

As for level design, I really don't get it, Sonic Advanced 1-3 were amazing, by now they should know how it's done (Then you have the hit/miss DS titles)

Agreed, no point in completely reworking a PS2 game getting an HD port, but an NES game?

That's the kind of upgrade I'm looking for.

I think there is very much a reason for reworking a PS2 game. LOI and COD had a lot of potential (like most CV games) but they do not take it far enough. Visually a lot of the areas in the those games were redundant and could have used a more vibrant facade and definitely more variety. Maybe if they gave it a woman's touch  :-\? I miss the Zeitgeist of the older games bring that back. The CVIII pic of Trevor looks a little Claymation-ish. Not bad. I'm with Ratty on the whole keeping the spirit sitcheeation.  :'(

Both games did have a woman's touch in them. Or to be more specific; all the pretty boys that were featured in the official art. CoD was much too saturated with it :P  What was needed (as you mentioned) was sharper graphics, much, much less repetition (CoD especially), and much more platforming (again in CoD's case).

Very well put. I thought that both games had some really cool enemies that would have been fun to see in HD or the LOS games for that matter (except the cone headed Cyclops/Ogres). Platforming is a must, yes yes for the love of the effects the Koren helmet produces YES!!!! It also needed more narrow corridors to make enemy encounters more about dodging. But I am drifting here. I did not feel the pretty boy art either.

Like the Ellner quote too by the way.
