That CV3 looks terrible. it looks like a filtered screenshot with some detail added to the sprite.

gross.

That's like, iOS Mega Man X bad. in fact, i'd say it looks worse.

putting  filters over an image doesn't make it HD.

The Death looks pretty good though.

Actually, I like the CVIII HD screenshot. An animated gameplay would be of big help to give it a better judgment... Maybe the Pazuzu-Dracula in HD...

Yeah, the CVIII screenshot looks great.  If the whole thing was redrawn from scratch, it wouldn't look like CVIII.  And of course, that Death re-do is fantastic.

Both look tacky as all hell to me. If there were an actual HD remake, I would shudder at the sight of gigantic tile platforms utilizing basic NES colors.
Oh yeah, and also:

I can't really see a need for either of them. CV3 and SOTN still look fantastic and play even better. It's not like say, DuckTales which was imitating a TV show you could get closer to with modern graphics and sound. You could remake SOTN and CV3 sure, and they might even be good remakes, but I doubt they would be able to capture the spirit or all of the fun of the originals. And I say this as someone who didn't play either until about 5 or 6 years ago.

Holy s**t, so would I! That is incredible and it screams HD! Seeing CV done in something like that would be the bomb.

I agree with this. That CVIII screenshot is just riding on nostalgia. NES used those tiled platforms and limited color palette because it had to. Why limit a remake to looking just like it only filtered when we could, you know, make it better?

Eh, it's a nice idea but I'd rather have brand new sprites or just 3D models on a 2D plane for a 2.5D game.

Because sometimes it's better not to fix things that aren't broken... although honestly this probably isn't one of those times. Not to knock the guy's work or anything, but it could have been taken a bit further.

Agreed, no point in completely reworking a PS2 game getting an HD port, but an NES game?

That's the kind of upgrade I'm looking for.
