Playstation Vita Borderlands 2 Bundle $155 at Rakuten

A great but underrated system and a phenomenal port, plus memory card, at an epic low price at Rakuten.

If you don't have a Vita, this is a great opportunity to snag one and all the essentials at a more than reasonable price.

The Vita has a great launch lineup bolstered by a huge selection of RPGs and indie titles, and I still love mine to death.

How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Ah Vita, all the more reason to dislike Sony's stupid decisions. It's a portable console FFS, It should be dominating the handheld market.

Which is exactly why I'm advertising this discount. It drops the barrier to entry by almost $100 when you factor in the prices of the memory cards and initial game.

The Vita does dominate.

It's great in every way and worth every penny.
Sony didn't fuck up with the Vita. Go buy one.

I got one at launch and I like it more now than I did then. The flavor of games on it has moved away from big budget titles to awesome Japanese indie games. Which is what I, and I'm assuming a lot of other people around here prefer.

Everyone here should have a Vita.

Sony has been intentionally sabotaging the Vita since day one.

Kotaku, playing against type, has some great editorials about that.

These two are my favorites:

Mobile gaming didn't kill the Vita; Sony did

Japan: where the PS Vita won't die

It doesn't feel dead to me. It's a sweet handheld. I love it like I used to love my NeoGeo Pocket Color.

I'm more than happy to ride with the Vita and it's awesome Japanese games.

If people in the west don't get it that's fine by me. As long is it sells well enough in Japan I'll be able to continue enjoying a steady stream of great games.

Every psp game is downloadable.

It doesn't play the physical copies.

Not EVERY PSP game, but about two thirds of the PSN library. There are some glaring omissions, like Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops/MPO+, but it handles PS1 and PSP games pretty ably and it allows me to get my Dracula X Chronicles and MediEvil: Resurrection fix, so I can't complain about the selection.

It's better this way, trust me. The PSP's UMD drive was noisy, easily damaged, and a battery drain.
Downloads take up more space, but they don't make any read/write noise, they're super battery efficient, and being stored on Solid State storage means you don't lose your ability to play games at all should you drop it.
The Vita game cards that native games come on have many of the same advantages.

I myself have (initially begrudgingly) made the shift to a 90% digital library as of the PSP Go, and I don't regret any of it.

I still keep my old PSP 2000 around for Crisis Core though. It burns my ass that it was never released digitally.

I remember when I bought my Japanese 64 GB memory card for my Vita Slim and it was $80 and I was thinking it was the first pseudo realistically priced Vita memory card I'd ever seen.

Why they couldn't have just made it work with SDXC micro sd cards above a certain speed is beyond me.

But, to quote Kotaku:

Quote
Here is a partial list of reasons the Vita has failed:

Sony decided to gouge customers by forcing them to use proprietary memory cards, then jacking up the prices to obscene levels. (A 32GB Vita memory card retails for $100; standard 32GB SDHC memory cards cost $18.)

Sony marketed the Vita as a portable system with “console-quality gaming,” then went on to pack it with shoddy spinoffs like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Call of Duty: Declassified, and Resistance: Burning Skies.

Despite all this, a subset of hardcore gamers quickly realized that the Vita was a fantastic machine for indies and niche Japanese games. So what did Sony do? They decided to pivot it as a portable accessory to the PS4—as if anyone would dish out an extra $250 to play Destiny on the toilet.

Vita owners also realized that the machine is fantastic for playing old PS1 and PSP games. Sony saw how much money they could make there, and they immediately filled out the PlayStation Store, pleasing fans with truckloads of classic new games every week. Just kidding. They ignored it. Even today you need to use a silly shortcut just to get some old games working on your Vita.

Remember the PS2? One of the most successful video game consoles in history? Chock full of great games that could be ported to the Vita in various ways? Someone should remind Sony.

Remember BioShock Vita? lmao

Sony has pretty much spent the past two years pretending the Vita doesn’t exist, ignoring it at every major trade show and convention. It’s embarrassing.

Sony has publicly admitted that they are no longer making Vita games.

I remember how, prior to launch, the Vita had a TON of PS3 games being ported, including Lords of Shadow 2 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. There was that original Bioshock entry being made for it, and several more that I can't recall. These were all swiftly cancelled soon after the system launched. I used to think it was developers getting cold feet, but now I remember that guys like MercurySteam and Platinum games don't GET cold feet and I'm starting to think that these ports were arbitrarily shut down by Sony as part of the first round of "let's fuck our own system over as horribly as can possibly be managed by anything less than a Dark Horny Tentacle God of Despair"

Honestly, I've been waiting for hackers/modders to overhaul the system like the PSP, Sony isn't gonna realize the Vast potential of this system.
Maybe Microsoft can make a PSvita clone with a Win10 base, allow streaming from Xbox One, sell 360 ports, and allow Steam access, this would be a perfect handheld.
