Man, what a tense hour and a half that was, eh?

Or that "Dracula's Curse" animation with some... questionable short term memes and really... REALLY... ASTOUNDINGLY BAD artwork? Thank god that never took off.

X-Play used to have a segment, called "I have a Dream....cast." that was all about envisioning awesome video game movies -- and how studios would inevitably fuck it all up. I think we've already played that with Castlevania, and what we saw lurking in that foggy darkness of possibly's and might-have-beens ruled over by the Almost-was-King terrified us to our bones.

Honestly, Van Helsing is all the Castlevania movie I truly need.

I mean, I love Paul W.S Anderson, and I definitely believe him when he says he's a fan of Castlevania, and likewise for James Wan, who ALMOST directed this feature. I also love the Resident Evil films far more than I will ever love the RE games, but I honestly think that it's for the best that the film never happens. There's just too much that can go cataclysmally wrong regardless of how good the script is or who makes it.

Let's just hope Uwe Boll never touches this franchise.

Still haven't heard anything about that animated film (which, as far as I know, was last picked up by Adi Shankar).  Is it dead?  I kinda hope it's dead.

Whatever happened to that Dracula's Curse anime? The really gory one. Is that dead too?

If the people in charge of making Dracula's Curse into a movie can't get it right, then it's best to let it die off.

I really don't care for the RE movies (they were dumb but not "dumb fun" for me) and hope if a Castlevania movie ever is made he's not involved. The idea of the canon characters becoming glorified baggage carriers for a made-up Mary-Sue gets to me for one. Every year without a release the franchise name loses a little more brand recognition though, so while I suspect we'll eventually get a movie, if we don't it'll just be because no one thinks buying the rights would be worth it. I mean, they're certainly not needed to make a Dracula film.

Comcast/Universal is in the process of rebooting their old horror franchises, last attempted with "Van Helsing", in a more modern "Avengers"/MCU style though, so who knows. We might find ourselves in a new monster fad, which would increase the chances of someone reaching for the Castlevania license (so they can use the Universal Monsters styled concept without being sued) exponentially.

I'd say even Lords of Shadow was better

but yeah, Van Helsing was great as a Castlevania movie

Laura and Gabriel arrive in the deepest cave of the castle and... they find IGA.

There are no more new rumours. I think we can asume it's dead too.

All film adaptions were dead like way back in 2010.

Also 2010 was "way back" and that makes me depressed.

Ahh 2010. Castlevania was riding a high note thanks to Ecclesia pleasing the fans a few years prior and LoS making Konami a ton of money.

Good times.

I'm talking about the one that was announced recently.

He's talking about this one guys.

I'm not gonna get my hopes up. As a financier/creative consultant, Shankar is GREAT, but the stuff he's actually made himself is not up to that same standard.

I'd count his Castlevania project as "dead" too given that we've heard nothing of it since its announcement last year.

I don't know who would even watch a Castlevania movie at this point. It's not exactly the hottest franchise right now. And vampires are so over.
It could've been a good idea around LoS1, and/or whenever Twilight/True Blood/Vamp Diary were in fashion. The movie would've probably sucked regardless though, but at least the timing would've been slightly better.
