To make things easier to understand, simply switch to the magic that corresponds to the barrier you want to pass. You're free to switch between whatever magic you want while you're INSIDE the circle. The only thing that will push you out are the barriers.

LOL, thanks. I figured it out about 5 minutes after posting. My problem was that I was over thinking it.

Thanks. I did manage to get the sound working.  I do have another question.  I'm in the chromatic observatory and have managed to open the red door.  I have defeated the vampires and saw the tiles light up.  I tried using shadow magic on the runes but they don't stay lit long enough to get to the next one.  Am I doing something wrong?

You have to dash using the Shadow+Dash ability you got after defeating Cornell.

On the PS3 it's like this:
R1 for Shadow Magic
L2 while facing the direction you wanna run.  Hold until Gabriel starts to pulsate.
While Holding L2, Tap the control stick twice in the direction of the arrows.

You have to do this at every corner quick enough to keep the path lit up.

Thanks Jorge.  For some reason I thought that I had to punch the four tiles with shadow magic and run to the next.  Once you told me it was just running everything fell into place.

This isn't a game puzzle question, but is there any way to circumvent having to switch disks on the 360 version for the level select? I seem to remember hearing something about installing one disk that would do this, but it's been to no avail.

Hi.  I'm at the necromancer stage with all the mirrors and warp points.  I've beat the miniboss (?) and I've navigated through two mirrors.  I hit the two punch switches and have warped back to the area where the two mirrors are.  Through the gap I can see a third mirror, but am at a loss as to how to get to it.  I've tried jumping, running, used all my shadow magic and tried to break through?  I am at a loss as what to do.  Any help will be much appreciated.

I experienced a glitch there, actually. 
When I did the animation after I punched the floor switch, when i'd go to the 2mirror room, it still had not activated!

After five times replaying the stage, I just picked 'restart from last checkpoint' and then re-activated the flloorswith again and it continued mormally.

Someone refresh my memory. Is there a level where one can "World Map Warp" to, to quick fill up on Health and Magic early on and then bounce out to continue onto another level/chapter?

nm. found the answer I was looking for. it's the level that you start your fight with Cornell.

Has anyone beat the game on knight and paladin? Do you unlock anything for beating those modes?

You unlock a "Congratulations!" screen.

I haven't yet, so I cannot confirm what Crisis says... but I would imagine that you unlock the Crusade and Epic Victory trophies.
