I liked the titan bosses, they should be kept... kinda. Just don't make them a climb-a-ton, make giant monsters but not stone moving buildings, GOW's Chornos is a good place to begin with inspiration. (IMagine a giant Beezelbub-the forgotten one and tell me it's not awesome)

Yeah, I'd rather just hit them a lot. I don't want to climb all over a giant thing just to hurt it. More Bayonetta, less SotC plz.

I enjoyed the shimmying, and using the whip to rappel down cliffs.  Slow certainly, but there was a sense of euphoria doing that in some of those beautiful environments.  A Belmont overcoming the landscape in new ways.  At Dorin's monastery, going up the tower and smashing through the window—that was a magnificent experience.  We may never see its' likes again.

There was probably too much of it though.  I would have liked more platforming, but it was awkward at times, perhaps due to the framerate and input detection/response.  On the Music Box level sometimes Gabriel seemed to jump far enough to the next platform, sometimes he seemed to just do a small jump.  It was hit and miss.  On the 2D scrolling/camera moments, I had a problem with the dash function kicking in when trying to edge up to the electric fields.  It needs to be sharpened up a bit.

The Necromancer's Abyss level was excellent though I thought, combining a bit of everything.  Shame it was the last level.

I wouldn't really qualify shimmying and rappelling as platforming.

Yeah, me neither. Platforming, to me, is to jumping from "platform" to "platform".

Seriously. Mario Galaxy was closer to Castlevania in its platforming than this game was.

Mario Galaxy kicks ass! I played through both of them recently, and I think Galaxy 2 was more fun. And I'm pretty crappy at 3D platformers(the whole vertigo thing), but it was pretty enjoyable. I almost got into my "little kid" mentality, where I'd be jumping in my seat everytimg I had to jump to a far platform. I haven't done that since the NES days!

Well, for me, it includes some climbing, but not on bosses.  Though I am partial to throwing stuff at them.

Some climbing, perhaps, but shimmying, no. Even if you shimmy on a ledge, you shimming in a straight line, not platform to platform. It's a straight path, even if you hug the wall.
