I know my hope is likely in vain, but I'm still waiting for a final super boss on the same lines of difficulty as the Forgotten One. That at least satiated my hunger for challenges after making a complete mockery of Satan in the first game.

I was hoping that Victor Belmont would take on Gabriel's evil version "Inner Dracula"... something like how you have to split Evil Maxim from Good Maxim in Harmony of Dissonance.
Victor kills Inner Dracula, Gabriel is free from the curse, reverts back to human.  Alucard reverts back to Trevor.  Happy Family.

But noooooooooooo fuckin' Satan plot.

I didn't want a redemption. Neither the ending we got. I don't really know which one is the worst option for me.

IMO, Dracula should always be evil. Redemption my ass.

It have been worse. He could have become a super hero who fight corruption and stands up for the little guy. Dracula turing into a good guy. yeah right!!! Over my dead body.

Bat...man?

In a way, they set Gabriel up for redemption, but regardless, the idea of Dracula being redeemed(or becoming a good guy) is one I never liked. Even when talking about a "rebooted" Dracula. Dracula should be evil. He can have depth, but still be evil nonetheless. It just feels strange to make Dracula the star. It's like making a WWII game where you play as Hitler(a tragic, evil, but in search for redemption Adolf Hitler).

Also, hell, sometimes people can't be redeemed. If anything, that's probably the most realistic thing that they could do. I think people tend to dwell on the idealistic apsects of "change" and skip past the fact that some people just don't change, can't or refuse to change. For every "bad guy" going straight, there are ten more who are content with who they are and what they are doing. That's more interesting, to me, than "good guy turns bad, only to turn good again and find redeption". Howabout a villain that's bad, "I know I'm bad, and y'know, I like it. I kick babies, toss grandmas down stairs, piss in the holy water and I enjoy it!". I'm tired of the idealistic, "but everybody can be saved" schtick. No, not everybody can be saved, nor everybody SHOULD be saved. Save those who want to be saved, leave those who refuse to be saved down in the pit(maybe they'll enjoy it).

I was expecting that the recollected fragments of the Mirror of Fate would lead to Gabriel's fight against his Inner Dracula, who would emerge through it, having retaken its true form, his vampire side against his human side in a realm inside the Mirror.  However, probably through defeating his vampiric nature, it would have left him fatally wounded efectively, as his vampire body and human inner nature cannot survive without his vampiric inner nature.  While in contorl of his full powers, he's only able to hold out long enough to fight against Satan.  At this point, his soul ascends, to be finally reunited with Marie... leaving just his dark half left.  It was defeated, but not killed, for as long as one side of him exists, his other side cannot be truly killed.

Or something along those lines, possibly with or without the last bit where only his dark side remaining while his soul passes on.

Over all I think we all can agree that the ending to the LOS saga was underwhelming to say the least.

Really put a damper on the series as a whole for some people, even the most loyal of supporters.

Yup, which is really annoying considering that it had elements of brilliance, before we were thrown down with bad parts.  The open-ended ending was fine, but the final battle was very disappointing, sadly, along with the way in which Marie and Young Trevor's final scene was handled.  Victor was just yet another disappointment in how he was handled - he could have been just so much more.

I just wish I knew what next for LOS2, because I can't help but feel that Dave Cox's tweet, "More holiday, and then....?" means something else is on the way.

Just hope it's something that will satisfy my Castlevania hunger.  :-\

It is most likely gonna be Contra.

Just replay your old Castlevania games. That's the only way to cope since I believe your hunger won't be satiated for a long time.

Yeah, it's unfortunate.  :( I just can't believe that almost the past two years (since finishing the first game) has just been pretty much wasted. The wait itself, with fan theories and Mirror of Fate, was better than anything Lords of Shadow 2 had for me. I really was hoping this would be the best thing to happen to Castlevania since SOTN.
