Well, there's a difference between being a part of the culture, and being understanding of it.
Great example of this was a friend from one of my groups that invited a bunch of us east coast peoples to his house for a long weekend gaming bonanza. About a dozen geeks (two of us were females) in a gorgeously furnished basement, with at any given time 4 consoles and at least one handheld all gaming at the same time. The host's wife introduced herself, packed up her things and spent the weekend over at her sister's place, because while she wasn't a gamer and didn't necessarily want to get knee-deep into our gamerthon...she was understanding that it was important to her husband that an event like that happen and cool with it all. (and since her house didn't get trashed, she's up for future events now!)
That's another side of the "gamer relationship" aspect: you don't have to really find a girl gamer who games with you and shares the gaming love, but find a girl who's open to the concept, understanding, and encouraging to your love of gaming. They do exist. Just have to find 'em.
