Picked up a 2DS and downloaded Aeternoblade and Gargoyle's Quest (amazing GB game, GET IT 8)).

Aeternoblade is a 2.5d metroidvania game with modern hack n slash attacks and leveling system. It obviously takes inspiration from CV and the Valid games (yipee!! Some love for Valis!).

So far, at stage 2, graphics are mixed, some good, some badly muddy textures, pretty decent animation. It's a good looking game till things zoom in a bit.

Gameplay is quite good. While the combat isn't out of this world exciting, it has a really good duel relics system (akin to COTM), and it has good simple puzzles. Plus, the controls and movement are VERY satisfying (a step or two behind Alucard imo). One thing I like about it is that rather than the satisfaction relying solely on the combat, its the movement and methods you take in conjunction with the combat that makes it feel a bit more old school.

I'll beat the game before I recommend it, but hey, it is on sale right now, and its a good game so far. Also for PS4 and Vita.

I got the game on Vita (didn't even know it was on 3DS until after I bought it). I'd imagine it plays the same on both systems. The game is pretty decent. The UI could use some work but the gameplay itself is good. I just don't like that it feels like MoF in the sense that monsters take several hits before dying, and they barely budge. Monsters respawn in this, unlike in MoF, for better or worse.

Got this game for my PS Vita. Still haven't finished it but it is fun and engaging.

I liked the demo, but wasn't sure if I'd like it enough to pay for it.

I agree the UI needs some work, like switching the relic selection with shoulder buttons, or wafter dying RESTART LEVEL is highlighted automatically, beside RESTART CHECKPOINT. Don't accidentally click  ;D

Not just that, but the overall HUD and everything looks pretty amateur, particularly during dialogue scenes.

I mean, it ain't that big a deal. I only spent $15 on the game (the full price) and I think it's worth the price.

The price is fair. Even though it's not the most polished game, it's quite fun and interesting.

I actually got this on the PS4. It's a competent sidescrolling platformer, though I agree Crying Freeman, it's not very polished--you can tell the graphics were made by someone who's not quite a professional (though not a rank amateur, either). The reverse time mechanics are cool, though.

The time mechanic is one of the standout features, along with the neat setting and presentation story wise. Wish the soundtrack was better though.

I remember this game when in development! It was initially titled "Chronoblade".

I was hoping for Sprite2dvania, but this looks acceptable too.

Just announced the sequel. I still didn't beat the first lol. I have maybe 45% left but got burnt out, repeating the stages isn't engaging enough personally.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/10/aeternoblade_2_confirmed_for_the_3ds_eshop

I've only seen it say it's confirmed for the 3DS/ Vita.

Personally if it's projected for Q2 2016 I'm going to wait for the sequel this time. Still have hella games to play in the meantime.

Don't know why but the game  somehow reminded me of Crescent Pale Mist.. Which is frikking hard btw.
