I really wish Nintendo could make another game like this, but they're too busy dishing out useless games that suck.
Play Link's Awakening, or Oracle of Ages/ Seasons? Four Swords? Nintendo has done a lot to try to recapture the 2D spirit of Zelda.
So, I have to disagree. There'll be few complaints from me in general where Zelda or Mario or Metroid or Mario Kart are concerned. Nintendo still knows how to make games better than the other companies out there. They do have to compete though, and that's where all those Mario-themed sports titles come in.
Zelda has rarely faltered in my eyes since ALttP. The only down point for me was Wind Waker, as it felt rushed, easy and the overworld felt repetitive. The art and music were brilliant, and it's still a solid fun game, but I think too much potential was wasted when the dungeons just felt like rehashes of OoT's. Phantom Hourglass was the more complete idea of what Wind Waker was trying to do. Majora's Mask is one of the most unique games ever created, let alone a unique Zelda game.
Twilight Princess, on the other hand is actually probably my favorite 3D Zelda. It's so epic and you can just taste all the talent it took to make it happen. I didn't know the GC could be pushed so far. The art direction was immaculate, despite some blurry textures here and there; The soundtrack just a step behind Wind Waker's or ALttP's; Every single dungeon offered up a different play style (that's impressive); and though some items felt dispensable after a few uses, there were several interesting new ones or new ideas for old ones. The overworld put the 64 games' to shame: finally we have an overworld that comes close to the action-packed and lively map of the SNES Zelda, but in 3D.
And then you have the whole twilight realm. Which to be honest was a little intrusive at first, but opened up by about the quarter-mark.
Hell, the only Zelda I really disliked was Adventure (and the CDi ones don't count at all). All the rest make up one of my favorite gaming series ever.
