Favorite Castlevania

I know this topic has been posted on numerous occasions, but I'm just curious. What's your favorite castlevania game of all time and why?

My all time favorite without question is Castlevania Legacy of Darkness. The main reason is probably because it's one of the first games I ever rememeber playing! (the first one is Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis)

That game had some great characters, like Cornell and Henry (I actually hate Henry) as well as the original Castlevania 64 character, Carrie Fernandez and Reinhart Schneider.

It also had some unforgettable stages such as the Pirate Ship, Forest of Silence, The Villa, Duel Tower, Tower of Sorcery, Tower of Science, Tower of Execution, the Clock Tower, and the epic final stage, The Master's Keep! That game really had a major impact on my gaming (haha, wasn't that a topic, actually?) and it was really the game that got me addicted to Castlevania.

There were many awesome boss fights in that game too, such as the serpent that attacks the pirate ship, the giant skeleton ape, the twin headed bone dragon, the mini-boss vampires in the villa, as well as Actrice, Death, Gilles De Rais, Ortega, Dracula's servant in the Master's Keep (in Carrie and Reinhart's story, and the final battle with Dracula himself, or Malus depending on which story.

The game also had some unforgettable moments, such as Reinhart's romance story with Rosa, Carrie's encounters with Actrice, saving Malus in The Villa garden, then seeing him again in the castle center when you realize he's evil, and finally when he transforms into Dracula and you have to kill him! This game is epic!

It also had great gameplay and was just an overall amazing game. I love it!

Wow.. The N64 games are generally not that praised, and I'm surprised it's your favorite. :) No, I haven't played it...

Symphony of the Night is my personal favorite. I'm sure the reasons are pretty obvious... It's SotN, after all. XD

Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse:

the introductions to trevor belmont, alucard, and the belnades line of belmont descendancy, through sypha. not to mention grant danasty who was pretty useful as well. that was your possible playable line-up. you always had trevor and depending on where you went and who you chose you had a helper in one of the other 3.

4 possible endings(1 for going solo).

travel around outside the castle for a while. this makes the most sense. dracula's longest reign was from his inception to trevor being his first defeat, so his evil influence should have spread the furthest here.

it was just a really well done game for something nearing 20 years. difficult as all hell, but the much easier(where grant and alucard become way more useful) japanese version was rom translated.

Wow, that's very impressive! You really did a great job! And yes, Frankie scares the crap out of me too! So do those vampires especially in the Castle Center!

Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness

These are my favorites.

LOI because it was the PS2's first forray into Castlevania. I enjoyed the design, quality, music, and the combat system.

COD because it was more role-playing designed. I also enjoyed the fact of creating those familiars. Add to the fact that you could fight skeletons and reach level 99.

Jorge, that page of yours is what convinced me to buy LoD, and I regret nothing!

As for my fave: Um, SotN, I just love the dark, nocturnal atmosphere around it. AoS was my first CV, so I like that one a lot, the story and the castle itself are pretty cool too... I also enjoy CoD, simply because of the adventure around it, and the locations are beautiful, plus Trevor's awesome. Dracula's Curse is always fun and so is the original, and I also like the gothy-ness(ha, i made a word) of LoI. Ok, I can't choose a favorite.  :P

Dawn of Sorrow.

I think it took everything that Aria did and improved it and the soul catching system is the best system that CV ever implemented.

Circle of the Moon was awesome! That last boss was tough, especially considering I beat it at level 42... :(

how is real challenge a bad thing? if it was cheap, crappy one like level caps i could understand, but in cotm drac's case he's just tough.

also try in fighter mode. it's much more fun since you're not severely underpowered and don't have to grind heavily not to die in 1-2 hits.

I never said it was a bad thing, I love that Dracula battle, one of my favorites actually. It took me hours to do, and I was ready to kill myself, but it was really rewarding in the end!
