i think it is the actual death, however hes likely bound by the rules he cannot willfully kill someone, he has to wait for them to die, no matter what the belmonts would see him reguardless, lol

Maybe if they vampires have a shield against sunlight when they have enough power, they can willingly lower that shield, if they felt the need to commit suicide.
