seeing as we've only seen Male Belmont heirs wield the whip, and that the Morris Family can't use it without consequences, it seems to me that only male Belmonts can weild the Vampire Killer effectively.

What if Richter and Annette had no male offspring before she died, and in turn, Richter was forced to do some "unclean" acts to ensure the Belmont lineage continues, thus disgracing the belmont name and taking away some of their divinity, thus getting their ability to wield the whip temporarily revoked?

since the morris bloodline assumingly branched off before this, they would still be eligable to unlock the power at a price.

anybody's thoughts on this?

I have another Theory

Richter was possesed by shaft on SotN, right? So, his spirit becomed evil, that perverted his own aura and Belmont's collective aura, and needed a time to be purified.

Agreed, it was the possession by shaft.  I'm pretty sure we will learn exactly why the Belmont's lost the ability in Order of Ecclesia (spelling?).  After all, according to what I have heard, the order was one of many that was formed to take the place of the Belmont's in their absence.  I could be wrong though.

It couldn't have been about Richter being possessed by Shaft. Christopher's son (I can't spell his name right) was possessed by Dracula, and he was able to continue the bloodline.

Trevor was the first to defeat Dracula, but in Legends, Sonia defeated Dracula.

Soleiyu's possession by Dracula's doesn't count?

My thoughts would be that, I was liking where this was going before the whole Richter-duaghters incest came into play.  What if Richter and Annete just had female offspring, and those children kept having female offspring until the time of Julius.  While of course the last name "Belmont" may have become lost during that time, lets presume that somehow, Julius was able to retrieve his "Belmont" name, perhaps after the Morris's found out of his existence, along with his deserved heritage, the vampire killer whip.  This could very well explain how the Belmont family lost and retrieved the ability to use the Vampire Killer whip.

Maybe he didn't?  Maybe he, or Christopher just had to wait and train Soleiyu's son?  Julius could still kick ass in old age, maybe Chris was still good enough to train another Belmont?

Unclean acts? You mean like raping Maria? Scandalous.... but still, I  doubt that would take away the ability to use the whip.

my idea is since richter, the belmonts felt they their family wasn;t strong willed enough to weild it in case one was corrupted by the dark lord himself cause then the world in that sense would be at the mercy of dracula, and so leads us to the new DS game :p

Yeah, but even if they thought that, they should just be cautious, and not give up the whip because the whip is basically their only hope! Without the Vampire Killer, no matter how strong you are, you're still just a human being. The Vampire Killer posseses incredible magical energy, giving giving it's weilder super-human power against darkness. They shouldn't have sealed it away for that purpose...

Although, maybe they just figured they wouldn't need it now that Dracula's dead. If so, they were stupid to let their guards down! :P
