Portrait of Ruin hard is HARD!

I am playing through PoR's hard mode on a fresh game with a lvl cap of 50 for the first time.  Currently, I am finding it nearly impossible to play through hard without a new game+!  Right now I am in the city of haze and can take all of 3 hits before dying. Dullahan does freaking 85 dmg/hit while I do a measly 11 dmg.

Am I missing something? While I am having a great time with the challenge, fighting Dullahan is freaking ridiculous.

Yes, I am stuck fighting Dullahan playing as Axe Armor, it's a pain in the ass. I'll beat him one day.

I tried the Lvl 1 cap hard mode from scratch, and it was pretty cool at first, but it gets to the point where it's just too hard to be fun.  I got somewhere in that area with the invisible men and gave up.  I guess it was enough of an accomplishment for me to get that far.  It was especially painful fighting the Behemoth...one hit kills you, and it takes probably over fifty hits to kill him.

yeah, that's the problem, hard mode with New Game+ is too easy, but hard mode from scratch is way too hard.  i look forward to playing New Game+ with a level cap one of these days though.

the fact that he mentions new game+ kinda gives it away, no?

anyway, those modes are more cheap than hard. there's no real change in gameplay, just your moves deal shit damage while enemy moves kill you almost instantly.

taking 10 minutes to kill a boss by repeating the same thing over and over isn't my kind of fun. i want ai boost rather than some cheap cop-out like that.

it takes only about 1/4 more time to kill creatures in hard mode 50 cap, and about 1/2 more time in level 25 cap.
(which is also the case in DOS, Hard mode just cuts all of soma's attributes in half and changes a few of the minor enemies, yet of course, it's not part of PoR, so apparently it is to be spared from the same critism it deserves)

the only case in which this bias actually applies IS on level 1 cap with a fresh file, so I don't think I'll ever bother doing that with a fresh file on any mode except the sisters. using the save file glitch with richter mode (giving you the life and magic upgrades) though makes it pretty fun.

I was playing Richter lv1 cap but I just can't beat Brauner.

But Jonathans game on hard isn't so bad. Not even on lv1. Get yourself ancient armor and illusion fist and you'll be fine. No matter what level.

Btw: the bosses DO change when on hard. Look at Dullahans soul attack for instance.
