I don't understand this. Please elaborate for me.

Castlevania games that have a somewhat Metroid feel. Exploring, platforming, etc.

Frankly that term annoys me. As an avid fan of both Metroid and Castlevania I can tell you they're very different. Metroid is dark, ambient, and very alien. Castelvania is gothic, upbeat, and more cartoony (particularly the newer ones). Sure, they're similar, but the universes are really quite different.

"Castleroid" is a medical term used for a severe case of Hemorrhoids, where the pain suffered is compared to sitting on a castle made of lego.

As for "Metroidvania"... beats me

At least "Metroidvania" somewhat describes what it is. "Castleroid" is just a random word with a random suffix, basically(it also sounds like "Hemorrhoid").

Not to me. It's probably the syllable difference.

The terms sicken me too. Castlevania, and Metroid have nothing to do with eachother at all, other than the platforming. Don't feed me that whole exploration jazz either, because in what game do you not explore in?

The games are completely different but the exploration style is pretty much the same.

i think it's basically that you come up to an area that you first can't get into, but then when you gain a certain item or ability later on and then come back, you are able to get to that area.

Metroid takes exploration to a whole new level. In fact, it's one of the biggest themes of the series. The whole "mood" of Metroid is being isolated on an alien world with huge areas to explore. I can't think of another series with that much emphasis on exploration.

You, sir are correct!
The mood and setting of the two games have nothing to do with each other, but in turn they also have nothing to do with the term "Metroidvania".
The only purpose of the term is to reference the nearly identical exploration style game flow they share.
the term "Castleroid" was coined by some jack-ass that just HAD to be different. It sounds stupid and is redundant since the other term was already in common use when it popped up.

It's the same as Metroidvania except that the pre and suffixes of each game are reversed. O_o I don't get how ou can like one but not the other. They're both stupid words.

But they're basically used to draw a parallel between more recent CV games and Metroid. It's not a hard parallel to see, really.

Both good terms (especially Castleroid) in the sense that they can be used in a derogatory fashion for the churning out of the 2D games since SotN because of the collect-this-to-advance-there done-to-bloody-death structure

Well I think Castleroid is a good word to describe the newer, exploration based CVs. Well you can also bother saying "the castleroids where you have to find items in order to proceed and can return to earlier parts of the castle" if you wan't. I don't.

I think it happened ever since SotN was released and was practically always spoken with Super Metroid in one breath.
