Well, since a lot of European language descends from Latin, it's probably normal if we can take words from languages other than Latin instead to translate the stuffs 

Back to the translations, some of them still elude me... I even tried googling them, but I don't get any definitive answer. Here are what I get from the sites I googled:
Melio -> Melior = Better
Acerbatus -> Acerbo = to become worse, but then Acervo = to pile up. Which one?
Fides = Trust, faith (what does Fides Fio do again? Can't remember in a whim 

)
Some others are straightforward again:
Sapiens = Wise
Paries = Wall
Pecunia = Money
