The last two PS2 Castlevania were Zelda-esque in the vein of Ocarina of Time I think.

Curse of Darkness, yes. Lament of Innocence, not so much.

Though CoD was kinda half assed and more of a dungeon crawler. Had the environments been more varied and actually like real forests/villages/mountains, the game would've definitely been a Zelda clone.

Not at all. What makes you think that?

I think something important has been lost on this discussion so far...  Zelda itself has grown stale over the years with it rigid and predictable designs. SotN and the subsequent metrovanias have already borrowed some elements from Zelda --like the key item concept and fetch quests.  Personally, I'd be terrified to see a Castlevania become even more linear --even more rigidly structured.  Adding a few more puzzle elements to gameplay would certainly be welcome, but I think cloning Zelda would really overdo it.  Simon's Quest is about as close as I'd like to see Castlevania get to Zelda --and let's face Castlevania has come a long way since then.

why not just make something like Castlevania 64 update the graphics, fix the camera angles. Make the day/night affect the gameplay. fix what was wrong with Cv64(even though I personally like the game). plus throwing in new things as well.

plus since there making a 2d game as well, there really is no need to stay true to the roots so to speak and really try something new. Because lets face it the 3d era of Castlevania hasn't had the impact as the 2d ones

Look, it's not really Zelda-like gameplay without clever puzzles, and item gathering that affects said puzzles.

And CoD did not really have much of that. Though you were free to backtrack, there wasn't much left to do in a level once you passed by the first time... other than opening up other pathways to older levels.

SotN would be a closer pick. You were free to roam the castle, and certain items opened up newer areas.

I'm still open to the idea of a first-person CV adventure not unlike the Metroid Prime series.  I think it would clear-up a lot of the problems that bringing the series into 3D has entailed thus far.

I also think this rail-shooter CV coming out could help prove this.
People do like to be able to see the character's model while in action, thank you very much. :P

Kicking the crap out of "Master Cheese" doesn't really say much. ;)

I always loved metroid prime.. but I thought the only flaw was the fact that it was first person.. in my opinion thats just lazy.. almost like they didn't want to animate samus because her flips are too cool or something... I was pissed that she didn't flip anymore.

Oh I have to disagree. I see where you're coming from cause it would be fun to watch, but I think the 1st person view made it great. I felt it was a good transition into 3D and helped to capture the feel of the series and of being alone on a planet like Samus always is.

I wouldn't mind seeing the next 3D Metroid 3rd Person, but I think it would be better to be able to toggle between the two views, this would make everyone happy, I think
What a horrible night to have a curse!

I agree, that would own. The first person view does tend to limit the gameplay aspect of the game sometimes.
