My thoughts on the mobile phone Castlevania (with images)

Hi there, I'm a new member (as you can check) and I wanted to share my experiences with the Castlevania games found on mobile phones.

There are 3 official Castlevania games, two of them are ports. And there is also a pirate game, but later on this.

Castlevania / Castlevania Aria of Sorrow

Those two are ports from other Castlevania games, as you could guess.
Castlevania is the very same from the NES games, down to the bad control themes. Just with some small background improvements. But its still the very same game.
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow however looks more a downgrade than a port. The graphics were terrible chopped, and the both the controls and soul system also suffered, being a little stiff. The game is much more shorter, it's almost a "unfinished demo" to compel us to buy the GBA game. Or to make more cash. Your pick.

Castlevania - Order of Shadows

Our story begins with Desmond Belmont and his two sisters, Zoe and Dolores, going to the castle (which he calls a "mansion", but...). They are all ought to stop the evil Rohan Krause and his order from resurrecting Dracula. Why? I don't know, maybe "resurrecting Dracula" could look good on an evil madman's resum

The Chinese make better Belmonts than Konami Mobile USA.

And Jesus, the graphical reuse in Order of Shadows. Those are RONDO tile sets! Super fail.

I recall seeing X68k tile sets as well.

Jorge D. Fuentes :
Thanks! ^_^
And don't worry, I know how it's feels like. I got some big community to look after at Deviant Art, so... No worries

I've played all those games with an emulator. Yup, there IS a mobile phone emulator. And that's how I managed to get the game too. If it is allowed, I would post here the link to get the emulator and the games too.

The Order of Shadows I also recall some badly resized SotN sprites, like the Salem Witch.
And the Chinese I doubt it's Julius. You see, Julius got brown hair, and this guy it's blond. But if you think about Eric Lecard (Blond on animations, green hair in-game, brown in the sequel and then blond again in Judgment)... Who really knows?

A n t r a x x  :
Well... Even if it can be infuriating sometimes, it's still a better game than any of those Konami ones.

uzo & paletteswapmonster :
And some also badly-resized SotN stuff.
But we got many Rondo sprites in the subsequent games, and SotN, and...Oh, it's better I stop before I start mentioning even more re-use. PoR may the game with most re-used stuff so far but it's also a good game. So re-use isn't a bad thing IMO, but BADLY resized, chomped down and missing too many animations IS. Shame on you, Konami :(

Meh, they're cell phone games. If you come in expecting them to rival the games that appear on consoles or portables, you're naive at best.

I enjoyed OoS for what it was, a fun little way to waste a few minutes when you've got some time to kill. I'd love to get CV1 for my phone too but I doubt Konami will offer it anytime soon.

And that Chinese homebrew game looks pretty awesome! I might need a link to that one!  ;)

The pirate one seems to be the most impressive.

And that's soooo sad =/

The Clock Tower is annoying as ever: moving platforms and medusa head popping around and hitting you right in mid-air, knocking you back. Fortunately you can buy extra HP, so the main character can take numerous hits. Another annoying part are the platforms with fire rings around. The frame rate is a bit high, so it's hard to make a perfect jump to get to were you want to go.
if you just use the cross, medusa heads won't even reach you. also i dunno why, but they give a lot of xp. i leveled up to almost level 40 after i was done with the clocktower.

as for the fire rings, use the stopwatch to slow them down a lot.

Oh, and a good thing: you can keep your level after beating the game and starting a new one. Or if you just save and start another, but all the stuff you brought are lost.
