Once upon a time, there was a great 16-bit RPG called Shining Force.

(I realize this is actually Shining Force II.

This topic almost brought a tear to my eye :(
I doubt Shining Force will ever recover again, though Shining Force Feather looks decent... I wonder if it's gonna play anything like the old games? Bah, who am I kidding? Sega turned my favourite strategic RPG into a chaotic anime brawler with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's probably gonna stay that way.

Come to think of it, I hate Sega. They've destroyed Shining Force, Sonic, Phantasy Star, Golden Axe, Shenmue (well, they didn't destroy it, they just abandoned it). I wonder wtf goes on in their messed up heads? Are they releasing trash on purpose?

Though I must admit Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 was a great game. I want to see Shining Force done Valyria style! But with gameplay inbetween battles, not just cutscenes. I wanna be able to walk around in towns! That's what made Shining Force a much more involving game than, say, Fire Emblem. IMO.

Also, I wish Sega would release Shining Force III on the DS, ALL three episodes, puhlease! But like everything else, it won't happen.

What they need to do is bring the 3rd one (Saturn) over.

In the meantime we can keep the golden "Shining" era alive by playing all of them up to S. Force2 on the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.

Which BTW is an awesome value where collections are concerned.

There was also a cool remake of S. Force one for GBA.  It adds new story lines, characters and mechanics without sacrificing the original's integrity and dignity.
