Lament has some nice atmosphere cuz of the music, and the faked volumetric lighting through windows.

I agree that Lament has a very nice atmosphere. Imo Lament has a better atmosphere than Curse of Darkness, although Curse of Darkness creates a pretty darn good atmosphere too through its very nice dialogue. Lament is way more "mysterious" and "gothic-like" though  :)

I could never really get into curse i get bored with it before i fight Trevor(best part imo).

It's true, the 2 ps2 games did a incredible job with atmosphere.  The areas were dark, plus the enemies and music were a perfect fit.  I think that in the future, Konami should use the atmosphere in those games as a standard.
