1) After a millenia, It's possible that the stone's gone through a few name changes.

2) I thought it was the Ebony stone that made Death your servant, and the Crimson stone gave you the (Now useless) castle. I could be wrong, though...

Here is how it is:
Ebony Stone - creates eternal darkness over a certain area and seems to protect its master from harm.
Crimson Stone - can turn the souls of vampires into power for its master.  Also, Death is loyal to the stone's owner.

You are forgetting the Brahm Stoker's Dracula. Those origins that were worked into the series through Castlevania bloodlines. And since IGA went and did Portrait of Ruin, that game further helped solidify the Dracula Novel as the true origin for the series. And in my opinion the transformation from prince Vlad to Dracula in the movie was so much more dramatic and meaningful then what IGA tried to accomplish in LoI.
