I'm not including the spiked ball end to it.

In some games the vampire killer is more of a chain rather than an actual whip, but in some games it is presented as an actual whip. Do you guys think it would be closer to a bullwhip or a stock whip?

By the way its been drawn by Kojima, it appears to be closer to a bull whip.

Im pretty sure its a bullwhip. The original idea prolly was somethin along the lines of someones gotta stop drac some random dude grabs the closest thing he find on his farm and it happens to be his whip. Cause everyone uses a sword it was somethin different

It's not worth arguing over, since it never stays in one distinct form or another between games.

Hell, it changes form from solid leather to a steel chain just in Super Castlevania.

I think its base form is a leather whip, since that's the form the whip of alchemy had.  As seen in Harmony of Disonance and Curse of Darkness, anything else is them just attaching some magical stone to the handle grip or at the end of its tip, causing the whip to transform.  I'm not sure what exactly causes it to go from leather to chain though.

Chain. A Leather one is just easier to draw.
The opening of Rondo shows it as a chain too so...yeah.

To me it will always be a chain whip with a spiked ball at the end, since thats what it was in the original games.  I also think that would be a much more effective weapon for killing monsters, skeletons, etc. than a leather whip.  But I suppose it could be either, it just depends on the artist's preference.  In most recent games they seem to draw it as a leather whip.

In earlier games, it started out as a leather whip and only became a chain whip when you found a powerup item.

I think this topic was around once...

Anyways I still think its supposed to be leather. its leather on the cover of CV1

I still think the reasons it changes, aside from making it stronger and cooler in the old games, is because its probably easier to draw a sprite for a chain whip and make it recognizable and its probably easier to animated a leather whip in 3D than a chain whip.
Still I'm sticking with believing its leather
What a horrible night to have a curse!

I think it's a kind of metallic whip but flexible.
I mean, made of metal, but made in a kind of cells so it can be flexible. Not of leather. Why?, because it's an ALCHEMY WHIP and you can't do alchemy with leather  :P

Everything comes full circle

As much as I dislike the boring, unexciting origin of the Vampire Killer, it is clearly shown as a leather whip in Lament of Innocence.

Thats true, but its also clearly shown as a chain whip with a spiked ball at the end of it in the original Castlevania, Dracula's Curse, Super CV IV, Rondo of Blood...

Its ironic that a mediocre offering in the series is the game that defines so much of the storyline and mythos- such as the origin of the Belmonts and Dracula, and the definitive form of the vampire killer whip.

To me the Vampire killer will always be a long chain whip with a spiked ball at the end. Though the pictures show a leather whip I personally think that it's just a an art tactic to quicken the pace  of drawing rather then showing what the whip truly is. That's why i liked the anime art for Dracula X so much is because they properly portrayed the vampire killer in all its raw glory  :D

P.S. I also draw CV pictures and never once did I draw the vampire killer as a leather whip!

I consider games in which the whip starts out as a chain whip (HoD, RoB, Dracula X, SoTN, PoR, AoS, DoS) to do so because either the whip did not revert back to its standard leather whip form since the last game, or the hero powered it up to its chain whip form before the game even begun.  The whip might have "permanently" maintained its chain whip form after the events of Simon's Quest.  The only games after Simon's Quest featuring a leather whip are Bloodlines (maybe because he's a Morris, it starts out as a Leather Whip again, though it's still a useless chain whip for Jonathan at first later on), Castlevania 64 (which might not be canon), and Circle of the Moon (might not be the Vampire Killer and might not be canon).  All earlier games feature a leather whip, at least to start out with.
