Um, was it actually ever implied in the novel that Dracula was Vlad Tepes himself? I believe he only mentioned he was his descendant.

I think it was said that Dracula referred to himself as a descendant of Attila the Hun.

No. Dracula IS a proper name. Vlad Dracula, Price of Wallachia. Aka Vlad III. Aka Vlad "Tepes" ("the Impaler" in Romanian); a title given to him. Also, Vlad Dracula's father was given a name, too. Vlad the second was called "Dracul" ("the Dragon" in Romanian). From then on his sons was given "Dracula" (Son of the Dragon) as his surname and it stuck for the rest of the family since.
If that wasn't the case they would have used it as a title for Walter in LoI.
I don't know where ppl got that idea. It certainly isn't something from the CV franchise.
The only thing the series says is that Mathias takes the name on some time before CV3.
Whether that makes Mathias the CV version of the historical Dracula or he got the name from the historical figure is unknown.
Yes, it was their surname (Remember, the royal rumanian family was divided into two lineages: Draculea and DaNesty -Sound familiar?  ;D -) However, they took it because Vlad I was part of the Order of The Dragon (Dracul Order) and was a fierce warrior, his father was not called Dracula, but Mircea Basarbab.
So Draculea or Dracul, was a acquired title, even so, if the new lord vampire is called dracula even if he's not Vlad tepes or Mathias Cronqvist, he could be called in that way, if he wants to be called son of the dragon. That's a word, and it was not copyrighted by the romanian family  :D

However, "CV elements" are bound to change with time, adding stuff and throwing other stuff out of the window. It's called evolution and it can be a good or a bad thing depending on the developers. Looking at Symphony of the Night today, it's a classic Castlevania, but what about in 1997 when it was first released? It was extremely different from the older games in the series. Alucard didn't even have a whip, and the actual gameplay was so different I'm sure many people were confused. Having said that, I think LoS looks more faithful to the series roots than SotN ever did. However, if LoS ends up being as "high fantasy" as many of you fear, I probably won't like it as much as I  would like to, but then again; Maybe the future of Castlevania is high fantasy? It's gonna change the fan base completely, and many of us will probably never touch the series again. Still, it will be called Castlevania and we'll just have to deal with it. Sad but true.
why do people keep bringing up Symphony?
it hardly helps your point since the discussion isn't about gameplay change wich was the only major the Symphony did in the series.
Symphony of the night STILL has ALL the Castlevania elemtents such as clocktowers, castekeep, main hall, skeletons, zombies, slogra, gaibon, axe armor the list goes on and on. it was a completely new Castlevania experiance based on a GAMEPLAY perspective but not a CV elements perspective. how in the world you can consider it Castlevania over symhony is beyond me since lately LOS just started introducing old elements while symhony had MANY elements from the previous games. i understand you really want it to do good and i do as well but that is no reason for you to downplay the obvious MANY CV elements used in Symphony like music, stages, weapons, characters and so on and just say LOS is more of a "CV" title then it was when clearly it isn't or hasn't been shown to be

It's never implied the novel dracula is Vlad Tepes. He's never referred to as Vlad Dracula either if I remember. The atilla the hun connection is right though. And yeah, Dracula was not is birth name. Neither was Tepes. Tepes means impaler, right? What, did the midwife just look at the baby and go, "here's a trouble maker!". Im assuming He got the title Tepes from his fondness for impaling, and because of this, was dubbed son of the devil, or dragon. Because his dad was also a bastard.
Go. Set Forth! Both your own life and hers are at stake.

I think gameplay is more important than these "elements" you speak of. That is why I strongly believe that LoS will feel more like a classic Castlevania than SotN, even if you think it looks like LotR at this point. I absolutely adore Symphony of the Night, but it was a BIG departure from the original Castlevania concept. The thing is I welcome changes and I think that Castlevania is many different things. LoS looked like Castlevania from the get-go (In my opinion). Symphony did not. The latest additions to LoS only makes me even more confident that it will indeed be 100% Castlevania, albeit Castlevania for 2010. You come across as a little bit agressive, you know. No need for that. These are just my opinions. You don't have to agree.

I disagree. You don't have to deal with it. You could very well just drop out of the series and never play the games again. There's no problem with that, of course. Just like people sometimes grow apart, gamers and their favorite franchises do, also. Same for musical artists and their fan bases. In those types of situations, neither is wrong, and sometimes, ending a relationship is better than sticking through a sour one.

Well yes, that's what I meant when I said "some of us will probably never touch the series again". That would be a way to "deal" with the situation. To walk away and never look back.

i never came of as agressive wut are you talking about?
i never attacked you are anything i'm just haveing a discussion thats all.
name 1 part in my post that suggested i was becomeing agressive with you? otherwise don't say such things without proof ok. its just a battle of opinions and i never become agressive towards people just because there opinions differ.
ONTOPIC.
Symphony had EVERYTHING the other CVs had like i said such as monsters, music, and levels while LOS at first only had a whip swinging hero. How does that posibly make it have more CV like then symhony when it first came out when symphony clearly had many of the CV elements intact? LOS simply doesn't have more CV elements then symphony and if so i dare you to name all of them and i'll counter with all symphony has and you will clearly see who has more "currently"

...sighs you can't be serious?

Symphony of the night was meant to be a change to the castlevania series. This game is a reboot but in the sense of getting back to the classic castlevanias style.

This is more CASTLEVANIA than symphony of the night simply because its going back to the roots of it all. A belmont, revenge, a whip, level based gameplay..etc..etc

@DarkPrince: Other Castlevania hadn't romanic atmosphere, a fancy castle, orgasm-faced protagonists and classical music.
Lords of Shadow has medieval atmosphere, high fantasy settings, realistic-faced protagonists and Hollywood type music.
None of the above things are bad, only different :)

Edit: And, hey, this is a reboot and a change itself, if past elements were broken, they need to replace them, that's why it will be different in many aspects.
If they wanted to make the same again, they would have, I don't know, made a retro game with backgrounds from old castlevanias, put a generic-looking protagonist and say it's Christopher Belmont, give 2 lines of storyline and make a downlodable game... oh wait   :-X

I *sometimes* get our point, however, most of the time you seem pissed of, and really defensive, and your position is not very clear.
You don't have to agree with "LOS is more CV than EVERYONE OF THEM FTW!" however, you are bashing (or sound like that) a game by how it looks (seriously, is a high fantasy setting THAA catastrophic?)
I don't knw pal, take a rest, make up your points and show them clearly, so we won't get them bad :)

lol...

Anywho, it does look awesome, and more and more promising as it  is revealed. Still want to see about that damnable Alucard Trailer game though. The model looks lousy compared to LoS though. Would like to see Trevor/Sypha/Alucard and quiet a quite others in a LoS like model. Sonia too, but if anything, that'll NEVER EVER happen. =(

But for the hollywood music comments... So far I've liked CV music very much thanks... I doubt "hollywood" music is better >.>

you are obviously takeing things the wrong way are just misinterpeting my posts. i never came of as mad or bashing please show me just 1 of my post that say that. i've always posted in a calm manner and i simply pointed out that i'm not confortable with the whole High Fantasy settings that all.
it MY opinion and nothing more. i never tried to force it down any of your throats but your making it seem like i'm just saying stuff like "i HATE high fantay and as BS and i completly hate LOS of EVERYWAY posible"
thats how your making me try to come of as and its not cool dude seriously grow up.
