It doesn't really matter how Lords of Shadow came to became christened as Castlevania, what does matter is how many different ways Konami dropped the ball by misleading the fanbase.

1.  Lords of Shadow was introduced as a new IP and IGA's Alucard teaser was shown to be the next generation Castlevania.
3.  Lords of Shadow was branded as a Castlevania.  Meanwhile the continued development of the Alucard game is neither confirmed nor denied.
4.  Even though he's barely involved, Konami appointed Hideo Kojima to sell LoS to the masses at E3.  IGA's absense is not explained, nor is his future involvement with the franchise confirmed or denied.
5.  More recently confirmation comes that IGA still works for Konami.  And although he is working on something, we're still waiting to see what it is.

If IGA is still currently working on an Alucard (or any other) Castlevania game, it would have been responsible to clear that up back at E3.  In either case, locking IGA in the closet was a big mistake that undermined some fans' confidence in LoS.  Kojima supervising may be fine, but he wasn't the right man to sell this thing --just imagine how much better LoS would have gone over with IGA's vocal support for the new team.  At best, Konami's Public Relations is incompetent and at worst --decietful.  I can understand why you might be angry, but I think you need to put that anger in the proper place.

But I think the initial project wasn't Castlevania and it wasn't one when the teaser was released. The later statements reek of purposeful explonations and simple marketing. Understandably they don't want to "cheapen" the project by admitting it was, at best, a CV-inspired project in the beginning, but a different game nonetheless.  Until I get solid proof I'm going to assume this.

But we... have the proof.  They have now stated for the record, many times, that Lords of Shadow was a Castlevania from the beginning.  What proof are you looking for, do you want them to submit to the public notarized documents and memoranda from early 2008 that confirms LoS was originally a Castlevania?  Unfortunately, those documents will be sealed at the National Archives until 2029, along with the Kennedy files.

And cecil, much of what you are saying is based on speculation.  We don't know the whole story on Iga, so we can't assume that "Big, Bad Evil Konami" has locked him in a closet or put a gag order on him or anything.  A recent interview with Dave Cox said the following: "While he said he has huge respect for Mr. Igarashi, it's clear that Cox's (or Konami's) vision for a rebirth of Castlevania wasn't necessarily in line with Mr. Igarashi's."  For all we know, they offered Iga a seat at the table on the new Castlevania, but he was a big baby about it because they wanted to go in a bit of a different direction, or use a new development team.  We don't know for a fact that they wrenched all control from him and then slapped a gag order on him out of the blue.  Maybe they wanted him involved in some way, just not as producer with full creative control, and its Iga who then decided to disconnect himself from it totally.

Michiru quit Konami period, so even if this WAS IGA, she still wouldn't be involved. So what's your point?

Something other than saying "hey guys, I can't believe you didn't know that we were making this a CV since the beginning".

They never used any tagline for the teaser. If they had used the "Reborn" or whatever they're using now, it would have been much wiser marketing-wise (and they wouldn't have to keep making statements trying to convince that they didn't flipflop just to merge it with a flagship title).

Fishing public opinions for a year with a teaser that could be interpreted either way was smarter, though. That leaves room to either do an independent project or put in under the umbrella of an establish classic series.

Having 2 cv games being worked on by 2 companies never affected each other before

SOtN didn't harm c64 from being release, so I doubt the mercury storm game would have any effect on the Alucard title

I thought they made it clear that it was only a couple days before LoS was first shown that Konami decided to withhold the news that LoS was a Castlevania title, and the LoS producer was pissed about it.

I think Konami has learned their lesson, I don't think they are going to release two games in the same series in close proximity with two completely different creative philosophies behind them again.

According to her blog it happened a while ago. I believe before PoR and OoE were released. She wanted to become freelance, and not bound strictly to Konami. This may account for her involvement being co-op instead of fully doing the OST's herself.

Yet Cox is at the same time wondering how, according to him, no one saw it coming. If we follow that logic, the smart thing would have been not to release a teaser. If it really was that obvious. Cuz that would be stealing the thunders.

They still could and should have used some sort of tagline, to keep us wondering. They could have redeemed it now and this wouldn't appear they way it does.
