One of my all time favorite RPG's games, Lufia, is going to DS!!!! The screens are looking very nice for the DS, but i wander what are the mechanics for the battle system. I hope that a video will appear soon enough to enlighten me!!!!

For all the info, go here: http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/1230160_1407.html (though it is in japanese  ???)

Yeah it's gonna be something like "Estopolis: The Land Cursed by the Gods" or something... which doesn't roll off the tongue as well as "Lufia: Rise of the Sinistrals".

Hm, looks nothing like Lufia to me. Then again, I realise they can't go for the old school look every time... If nothing else, I have high hopes for the soundtrack being awesome.

First trailer of the game. From what i've seen so far, the game is going beyond the old games battle system mechanics. It's looking more like YS, not that this is a bad think. Anyway, i like what i have seen so far and the graphics are looking very cool for the DS!!!!!

Even though it's not really Lufia-ish, another action rpg is always welcome.

It has Maxim and Gades..

But still. It will have real time battles.. .. .. Which I prefers before turned based battles :D

From the interview:
# Square Enix asked them if they would like to do a new Estpolis game
# The second game’s system was a lot more refined, the scenario and music were well liked, and it took place before the first game too, so we decided to use the second game as the motif (Kojima Hajime)
# We didn’t want to do a straight port (Ukeda Naoyuki)
# Square Enix told us that we’re free to do whatever we ant (Ukeda)
# So that’s what we’ll do! (Ukeda)
# Turn based command battle systems aren’t new anymore, so we’re making it an action rpg now (Kojima)
# It’s not just a remake, we’re rebuilding the story, the characters, and the world settings (Miyata Masahide)
# The hadou weapons will be a key component of the story, the world is different from the SFC version (Miyata)
# The bottom screen will only be used to switch characters (Kojima)
# The game will revolve around the D-pad more than the touch pen (Kojima)
# Boss battles will use two screens, it has its own special code for that part (Ukeda)
# Boss battles will be hard if you don’t know what to do against each one of them (Miyata)
# “It will satisfy action game players, but players that are bad with action games will be okay too” by Kojima
# Scenario is based on the second game, there are parts where we are deliberately letting them say the exact same words as in the original game (Miyata)
# But basically, everything is rewritten (Miyata)
# The number of towns that are appearing in the game is different from the original two games (Miyata)
# There will be parts in the game which will make fans of the series smile (Miyata)
# Miyata has surprisingly not changed at all. He’s just embarrassed reading his scenario from 15 years ago (Ukeda)
# The music is being brought over from the original two games (Ukeda)
# We changed the sound quality without messing with the melody line (Ukeda)
# The main staff from the SFC versions are making this game. It’s rare to have something like that 15 years after the last game (Ukeda)
# Stuff such as “Mahou no XXXX Magical XXXXXX” from the original are still in the game (Kojima)
# We changed a lot in the game, but we constantly kept in our minds that “we should keep the parts that made the series what it is” (Kojima)

Hate to bump, but is anyone else still following this?  Curse of the Sinistrals should be coming out relatively soon from what I understand.

It looks very different from the original but that's not necessarily a bad thing as the original is a great stand-alone game.  It doesn't need a carbon-copy.

Looks cool. I hate to admit this sort of thing... but I wish the characters where more 'cute'. I like the 'cutesy' of older RPGs. Too bad I don't own any handhelds and won't. Hand helds seem to be the only systems getting these sort of games. I love Lufia II for SNES. So I'm sure this game will be cool for those who get to play it. Oh, I'm also mad I can't play the new Y's games. They are psp only...

Lufia 2 had cute sprites but the character art was not 'cute' at all:
http://www.rpgsite.net/images/screens/207/lufiachange.jpg
... I guess you could argue that Tia is cute.

One thing that I like about the redesigned characters is that not everyone has blue/blue-green hair anymore.  I never understood why so many characters had that color of hair in the SNES game. XD

I just pre-ordered a copy of Curse of the Sinistrals.  Looking forward to it...

I have a passing interest in this game.

I am unsure I like the change of the gameplay going from it's turned based combat system to this Ys' styled Action RPG sort of thing.

The character redesigns are alright, except for Maxim in my opinion at least. I suppose they are trying to modernize the game but going from Wandering Warrior in Knight like armor to Biker Jacket seems kind almost like a Tetsuya Nomura butcher job.

Sure it'll probably have the same storyline and plot. I don't know if it exactly feels likes Lufia to me. I think I blame Square-Enix for this (Since they did acquire Taito and Square-Enix is known for drastically altering it's franchises into something nearly unrecognizable)

I'll wait and see what happens. Still seeing the a so-called rebirth of this series on a handheld instead of a console is a bit disgruntling.

I thought Guy's new design was the worst.  Looks like a cross between Tidus and Wakka from FF10- wtf?
I wuv Artea's new design, though...

Edit: Got the game.  I keep getting stuck on the bosses, though, something I've never really struggled with in an action rpg.  I mean, one boss took me like... five tries.  Stupid doom eye...

Edit: At the end of the game but I want to do some stuff before I beat it.  My main complaint of the game overall is that everything is so condensed; they cut out a lot.  Still, it gives new players the incentive to try the SNES game, I suppose?
